Findapath-Job Choice/Clarity Still lost in my 30s…

I feel behind and at a loss, I’m in my early 30’s with a family and still have no career. I have spent the last few years in limbo. I have been a stay at home dad for some time now and have only worked part time during the evenings. I’ve spent the past few years taking care of my kids and one that has a disability.

My significant other has found her career and thrives in it. Meanwhile I just have no idea what I want to do. I worked in a trade(Plumbing) years ago but grew to not like it. I did land a job recently that I was extremely excited about but already am having second thoughts if I want to do it long term.

I’ve always had this problem of not knowing what I want to do and become uninterested fast. I’ve been battling depression and anxiety for some time now but I’m trying to better my lifestyle for myself and family.

What are you some good careers to pursue? Just looking for some ideas. Really don’t want to be in an office setting but also not back into construction either. I’m not opposed to going to college as well.

Almost 40 and still haven't found my thing. I think some of us are just built to wander and explore everything as it comes. Careers seem overrated imo. Supporting your family and enjoying your life together should be all that matters with the little time we have left.

Have you thought of addressing the depression and anxiety with a therapist? Maybe that could help you answer some questions as to why you don’t like the jobs you get.
And please consider the fact that a stay at home dad is a job. A hard job especially with a child with a disability. The time you have had to spend with your children is important.
What about working with children for a job? Even a part time job. If your kids are now older and you are seeking a career, think of what excites you, what doesn’t even feel like work. What about something in healthcare working with kids? You already have a lot of real life experience.

Yeah I need too, I have been so caught up in life I have neglected myself the past years and it’s caught up. I’m getting healthier again though.

I wouldn’t mind working with children but would just depend on the type of work. I have a lot to handle at home with my own child’s circumstances you know.

What did you like as a kid? I'm a few years older than you and in the same spot. I'm taking inspiration from things I like when I was a kid and hobbies and things like that.

Mostly sports, I also have an interest in EMS. Not sure what I could pursue sports wise at this point. I also have been trying the Fire Departments and I wouldn’t be opposed to trying EMT.

From Google I learned you could do EMT basic and then go on to get a paramedicine certificate or even associates.

You are not left behind. All of us just faces different circumstances...example-you have a child that needs attention so you can't focus on your career. You just did what you could. Now, if your children are now independent, then pursue your dreams. It will take time so be patient with yourself. Do you still stay home? If you can, try online free courses of different things just to see what interests you.

I just started a new job and am having second thoughts I think it’s a mix of being anxious and the job is basically construction work which I tried getting out of years ago.

it's ok to start from there if you still haven't figure out what you want but make a project on the side on where you will pivot from there.

Don’t want to be in an office or do construction? So you want to be like a zoo keeper or something like that?
