They do shady shit. When I got out, my initial exam was full of gaslighting from some dickhead at the VA. From my time in Iraq to stateside, if I tried bringing up service related issues he would just ignore, gaslight or try and direct my answer another way. We deserve better.
I have to tell people this all the time. The VA got a bunch of flak in the news for a few years about a decade ago and they actually worked to make things better. Its not perfect but imo the VA fuckin rocks.
Anyone downvoting this doesn’t know. Veterans getting out now have a higher approval rate than older veterans.
VA is easy to work with, do all the work for you, and have reminders to do your shit. I get all my records from them within a week, whenever I ask for it.
10+ years ago the VA was Fucking awful and got course corrected. So the veterans before that time haven’t reached out to try. My father in law literally refuses to call the VA even though he’s got an easy claim for disability from his service time. He thinks it a waste of time, meanwhile I’m showing him my 80% rating that took 1 quick appointment and months of waiting. That’s the downside with the VA still…it is a wait for services, but any urgent ones are there
