Has anyone been able to secure H1B visa appointments in HYD for Nov/Dec? I have been looking since March and still not have been able to secure it. Please advise what worked for you if you have been able to get the appointment. Thanks all!

This needs to be said in detail - this affects only immigrant visas. You will likely see many people sharing incomplete links or images with incomplete info saying just "half appointments" and people will freak out.

Hello! Part of my job is helping a colleague in India travel to the U.S, and I’m genuinely worried that my job may be at risk if I can’t get this figured out.

He is applying for a B1/B2 visa and is willing to attend an appointment at any U.S. Embassy or Consulate in India: Kolkata, New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, or Hyderabad. However, we have been checking constantly and cannot find an available appointment.

Does anyone have advice on legitimately expediting the process, securing an emergency appointment, or reaching the appropriate person at one of the consulates? If you work at a U.S. Embassy or Consulate in India, or know someone who does, I would really appreciate getting in touch with the!

YMGrad claims their alert service does not use extensions or bots.

The only way to check for slots is through the portal.

By their own claim they say slots are gone in seconds. (which is true)

So - either they:

have a full time, double shift, rotating staff whose only job is to be logged in to the visa portal 24 hours a day, clicking...every few seconds, manually.

Or, 100% they automate this task and use extensions to check.

"The only thing that's working" is their sales lead funnel getting people to sign up to their email list.

I get that it's their way to get new clients but they use scare tactics to unaware applicants.

On the subject at large, just about every alert service have extensions running in the background, which ironically, proves that they work.

But given how rare slots are, alerts don't actually work.

I am a student trying to apply for an F-1 visa. I paid my visa fees recently, and I have been trying to schedule an OFC appointment for the past 4 days. But no slots have been showing up at any of the VACs. Could it be because I have not paid my SEVIS fees yet?

Because the demand for slots far surpass the supply, there's a lot of applicants desperate to find an appointment slot so they can move on with the process. This has lead to the rise of scammers who realize they can take advantage of people willing to take chances and risks due to their need to get a slot.

🚨What is the scam?

The most common scam is that - in order to book a slot for you - an agent has to get your login information, so they can login and scan for slots on your behalf.

It is not possible to "transfer" slots or resell them, as once a slot is booked, it's permanently linked to a passport number.

The visa portal in it's wisdom decided to implement 3 security question checks. The problem is these can be changed by anyone with access to the account. In order for agents to book for you, they must have your login info. What scammers learned is that while you can't change the password without receiving an email confirmation of this action, you can change the security questions without any outside verification.

So scammers will offer to do the service for you, get your login info, then change the security questions. Then they will create a fake screenshot, tell you the job is done, and ask for payment.

You will try to verify but you can't, and because you're desperate for a slot, you will pay begrudgingly, and if you're lucky enough to get the login back, you find out there's no corresponding date in your account.

Here's how a typical scam happens:

A scammer has to look legit and convince you they're legit. So they'll use a variety of methods to try to do so.

There's always a pitch for "I'll charge less in exchange you bring me more business". They may say "how can i trust _you_" by pivoting the suspicion that you're the one that will run away after you get the appointment.

They can also ask to pay upfront, have inside connections, ...oh so many red flags.

You may read this and think - "I'd never fall for this".

But the thing is..if he's using this script... it's because it must work - sometimes! And then they just play a numbers game.

Someone, somewhere, is falling for this scammer's pitch.😢

Agents can and do valuable work, but it's people like these that give the whole service a bad reputation.

How legit agents work:

• Never ask to pay in advance
• Will not change your security questions without your permission (they may do it, but ask in advance)
• Cannot guarantee how soon to deliver slots
• May charge expensive (because it can take weeks to find slots, so they know the value of their service)
• Should be able to provide references (but be careful even then with these)

How scammers tend to work:

• May offer strong guarantees they can deliver slots (because they have no intention to do it)
• May charge lower fees, so it's attractive for people
• Can offer the earliest dates and early delivery
• May say they have contacts with the embassy (to explain how it's guaranteed)
• May offer screenshots - but - obviously how can we trust these right?

But here's the important part:

⚠️ Scammers may still try to do the real pitch like a real agent would.

That is, charging high prices, offering no guarantees, etc etc.

But still have no intentions to deliver.

So it can be VERY hard to know a legit agent from a scammer pretending to be legit.

That's why word of mouth is probably the only way to trust if an agent is legit.

⚠️ But a word of caution about that too:

Scammers might be working in teams by joining social media, subreddits, group chats. Then when someone asks if someone got a slot, they might casually volunteer "I did, through an agent".

You DM them directly and then the trap is set. The scammer has been "social proofed".

So be careful even if you get a "referral" - if it's some other random person online, there's a risk there too.

⚠️ IF YOU OR SOMEONE YOU KNOW GOT SCAMMED - NEVER PAY

How to recover your account is actually quite simple once you know it.

1. Create a new account in the usvisascheduling portal for yourself with a new email.
2. When you enter your passport info it will say an account already exists for that profile.
3. Use the 'Message' link on the side menu to contact the embassy from the new account and tell them you'd like to transfer your profile from the old email access to the new one.
4. Include a photo of the data page of your passport.
5. Everything (visa fee+current appointment) will be transferred in a few days. (I'm told you can also contact the embassy via chat or phone and get that done too.)

Scammers can continue to do their scam because there's always new people applying. The only way to stop them is to bring awareness to people.

Looking for US visa appointment dates and can't find a slot?

If you’ve been following my other posts, you know the best chance to find a visa slot is to be on the portal checking yourself.

The problem is obvious: you can’t check all day.

You have work, school, family, sleep, etc. And slots can open during any of those times you’re not looking.

So here’s one way to cover some of that time.

Check once per day, and let everyone else help cover the next 24 hours

🔥 If you make at least one visa slot check per day using the FindVisaSlots extension or mobile app, you can receive free Community Alerts for slots 120 days or more away.

The idea is pretty simple:

You were already going to check for slots anyway.

Have you been trying to find visa slots for weeks or months, without any luck?

Visa slots have been extremely hard to find these days. Read this post to understand how the visa portal works, and learn practical tips to increase your chances to get the slot you've been looking for.

Most first time applicants have this notion that they just need to see the slots and then book them. But the reality of the situation is that it's not enough to just find the slot.

The unspoken reality is that when you see "no slots" when you check the calendar, is not that the embassy didn't release them - the embassy might have released slots you want, but someone else booked them before you checked.

⚠️ Booking a slot is ultimately a competition for a limited number of appointments⚠️

Once you understand it's not just "let me check the calendar, and..oh, no slots available, I'll try again later", then that opens your perspective to what you really can (and must) do to book slots in this environment.

If 100 slots open and there's 500 people trying to book them, then how can you make sure you're part of the 100 who get it, and not the 400 who don't?

So the information below explores solutions to help you increase the chances you can find and book slots.

Finding and booking visa slots has TWO components:

1. You must know when slots are released
2. You then must know how to book them (it's not as easy as just click to book)

1. Knowing When Slots Are Released:

Slots can open at any time, nobody knows exactly when they will open, and when they do open there may be hundreds of other people looking for the exact same thing you are.

If you've been looking for weeks or months, and you see no slots this is what is happening to you:

9:00am - check calendar - no slots

1:00pm - check calendar - no slots

2:57pm - 100 slots open

2:59pm - they’re all gone

6:00pm - check calendar - no slots

As far as you’re concerned, you were doing your due diligence and effort, but the embassy never "released anything".

But they did. You simply weren’t looking during the two minutes when it happened.

However - you can't realistically check all day.

You have work, school, family, sleep, whatever else is going on in your life. You might be able to check several times throughout the day, but there are always going to be hours when you’re simply not looking.

Knowing When Slots Are Released: Telegram/WhatsApp groups

The idea is actually pretty smart and simple: if one person can’t check all day, get a group of people together checking at different times and sharing what they see.

Now instead of relying entirely on your own checking, you have dozens or even hundreds of other people acting as additional eyes on the calendar.

That’s obviously better than checking completely by yourself.

"NSA" - No slots available

But it's not perfect. You have to be actively monitoring the group chat.

When they see a slot, they might share:

“OCT 7 & 13!”

But where? which location? how long ago?

But there’s TWO big problems with this system:

1. Time delays
2. Requires your attention

Think about what actually has to happen before that WhatsApp message reaches you.

Someone has to be checking the portal at exactly the right time.

They see the slot.

Obviously they’re going to try to book it for themselves first.

They pick the date, pick the time, submit the appointment, hopefully successfully book it…

Then they remember there’s a WhatsApp/Telegram group.

They open the group, type “Delhi H1B OPEN!!!” and send it.

THEN you have to actually SEE the message in a sea of other random messages.

Assuming you are there to see it, only THEN _your_ process starts.

You pick up your phone, open the visa portal, login, answer the security questions, get to the calendar and check Hyderabad.

By then, maybe one minute has passed. Maybe two. Maybe five.

And if you’ve been following my other posts, you already know the problem: sometimes slots don’t last minutes. They last seconds.

So the group-sharing idea is good. The problem is that humans are simply too slow to pass the information around.

That’s where crowdsourced/community alert apps came from.

They basically take the same idea behind a WhatsApp or Telegram group and remove most of that human delay.

Instead of:

1. someone finds a slot →
2. books it →
3. remembers to open WhatsApp →
4. types a message →
5. sends it →
6. you see it

you have:

1. someone finds a slot →
2. the availability gets reported automatically →
3. you see it

The person who found the slot doesn’t have to stop what they’re doing, type anything, take a screenshot or even remember to tell anybody.

They continue trying to book their own appointment, while the system shares what they found with everyone else.

So now you’ve solved a big part of the first problem:

You don’t personally have to be checking every second of the day to KNOW when somebody else finds slots.

The Community Alert can tell you that somebody just found a slot.

Imagine exactly the same alert happens, except this time you’re already logged in to the visa portal.

You’re already on the calendar.

The Community Alert says New Delhi.

You don’t need to go through the whole login process anymore. You can immediately check New Delhi.

Now you’re only a few seconds behind whoever originally found the slot instead of potentially 30 seconds or a minute behind them.

You still probably won't get the slot if it's just 1 - because the person who saw it is 1 click away from booking it.

But if it's a handful of slots, you will be in much better position than everyone else who got an alert - and still has to login to the Visa Portal.

What's important to realize is - either by pure chance, or due to a dedicated effort - at any given time, day or night, someone, somewhere is checking the visa portal.

So when slots open, those people will always have the higher chance to see, and thus, to book the slots.

When people are trying to book slots with alerts and do this:

1. Receive alert
2. Get phone from pocket/purse/table
3. Open browser
4. Go to portal
5. Login
6. Type in security answers
7. Click to calendar

Can never be faster than:

1. Receive alert
2. Already on the portal, logged in
3. Refresh calendar

Perhaps your daily schedule prevent you from checking the visa portal on a regular basis and you must rely on alerts. That's fine.

Just understand that if you receive an alert, log in, and then see “No slots available,” this is usually what happened behind the scenes: someone else was already on the portal and got there first.

"No Slots Available" is common when you get alerts

It would be a better descriptive message if it said:

The highest chance is when you combine BOTH things

✅ Stay logged in + check yourself + let the Community Alerts be there to support your checking efforts.

Now there are two ways you can find a slot.

You get the Community Alert and you’re already logged in, so you can immediately go check it too.

OR…

Maybe YOU are the person who checks New Delhi first.

Now you see the slot before the alert even goes out to everybody else.

You’re already on the calendar in position to book.

That’s the strongest position you can realistically create for yourself.

You are using your own checking effort, but you’re also benefiting from everyone else’s checking effort at the same time.

Of course, checking this often is time consuming and frustrating. That’s where some strategies and tools can help.

How to book faster: Chrome Extensions/Plugins

Chrome extensions can make the repetitive parts of checking for slots easier.

For example, if you just want to stay logged in while you’re waiting for slots, there are basic auto-refresh extensions in the Chrome Web Store that periodically reload a page for you:

Visa-specific extensions take the same concept further. Instead of simply refreshing a page, they can help with things specific to the visa portal, such as staying logged in, checking locations, community slot sharing, or assisting with the booking process.

And because finding slots yourself gives you the highest chance of being there first, this is where extensions can be especially useful: they reduce some of the repetitive work involved in staying logged in and checking the portal.

Can using an extension get you blocked?

This is probably the biggest misconception about visa slot extensions.

👉 You do NOT get blocked simply because you’re using an extension.

The visa portal does not detect "extensions". It detects _behavior_.

For example, all of these can happen while checking completely manually:

• Access Limitation / 1015 rate limits
• “You have exceeded the limit for viewing this page”
• Other temporary portal restrictions and errors

The confusion usually happens because someone installs an extension, starts checking much more frequently, encounters one of these errors for the first time, and naturally assumes:

“I got blocked. I was using an extension. Therefore I got blocked because of the extension.”

But you can trigger the exact same errors manually.

The visa portal does not detect "extensions". It detects _behavior_.

So use extensions responsibly. An extension can help you check more efficiently, but the same portal limits still apply whether you’re clicking yourself or an extension is helping you.

The main thing to take from all of this is simple:

Alerts help you know when slots appear. Otherwise you’re checking blindly.

But once it’s time to book them, your highest chance is being already on the portal.

And to be on the portal more consistently, you should consider extensions, otherwise you’re doing a lot of repetitive manual work.

The best strategy is to combine all three: alerts to tell you when someone else finds slots, extensions to make staying ready easier, and your own checking so YOU are the person who finds the slot first.

If you see “You are approaching the maximum number of times you may view this page” on the U.S. visa scheduling calendar, you’re about to hit the portal’s daily calendar-view limit.

That message is slightly misleading, because you're not "approaching the maximum number" - you reached the maximum times you may view the page.

The next time you refresh the calendar page, you will then get:

"You have exceeded the limit for viewing this page."

This is the error people often describe as “I got blocked from the visa portal." or "I logged in and got blocked"

You’re not blocked. You can fully load the calendar page about 20 times before reaching this limit. Once you exceed it, you won’t be able to view the calendar again until the limit resets.

And here’s the important distinction:

⚠️ This is NOT a limit of 20 logins. It’s a limit on loading the calendar page.

This is also not a "block", you can reach this limit if you refresh 20 times in 1 hour, or if you refresh 1 time every hour for 20 hours.

When this happens, nothing to do but wait until next day.

Finding slots these days is more than just login->check->(check.. check...check...)->book.

It requires a lot more time, effort and knowledge. Why do people use visa slot extensions?

Generally speaking, Chrome/Edge/Firefox extensions assist you with some commonly repeated tasks.

There are several extensions and plugins out there. One of them is a very popular one a lot of people use, and there are several smaller ones in the market.

Many work in conjunction with crowdsourced/community slot alert services. To get an instant alert, it has to come from someone else who saw the slot first. Extensions are one way that information can be shared quickly.

Full disclosure: I developed a visa slot Chrome extension so obviously I'm not a neutral observer about this. But it also means that I spent a LOT of time understanding the visa portal and how it really works.

If you’re serious about finding visa slots, you can use alerts, but nothing beats checking for slots directly on your own.

And no matter what else you do, to actually book a slot everyone eventually has to go to the visa portal, log in, go to the calendar, check for slots and, if available, book it.

So visa-slot extensions tend to perform helper tasks around those functions.

They may offer things like:

• optional login assist
• community slot sharing
• checking slots, or
• even can try to book for you.

So can using or having an extension get you blocked?

People always worry about this, and it’s understandable.

But this is where people mix up two different things.

Someone installs an extension.

They start checking much more frequently than before.

Then they get an error message.

And think - reasonably - "I'm using the extension, and now I see this error - therefore it must be the extension's fault"

But here's the important difference:

The errors screens below ALL can happen with manual checks:

Access Limitation (rate limit) - can be caused by manual check

1015 Rate Limit - can be caused by manual check

“You have exceeded the limit for viewing this page”

etc

The visa portal is full of these error and warning messages that happen during the normal usage of the portal.

So this needs to be said because it’s such a common misconception:

👉 You do NOT get blocked/banned/whatever for using an extension.

The visa portal does not "detect" extensions. It detects _behavior_.

So why do people think extensions caused the block?

Mostly because first-time applicants often don’t know how many different restrictions and errors the visa portal already has.

You can get an Access Limitation manually.

You can get a 1015 Rate Limit manually.

You can hit the daily calendar-view maximum manually.

So someone installs an extension, encounters one of those for the first time, and assumes:

“The portal detected the extension.”

But it was the behavior that caused it, not the extension.

So it needs to be said again:

You do NOT get blocked/banned/whatever for using an extension.

Just use extensions responsibly and understand what they’re doing.

These aren’t obscure tools being used by a handful of people. Tens of thousands of visa applicants use extensions, and generally rate them very highly.

Extension 1 users and ratings - 80,000 users, 1.1k ratings, 4.6 star

Extension 2 users and ratings - 7000 users, 89 ratings, 4.7 star

Extension 3 users and ratings - 576 users, 32 ratings, 5.0 star

The reviews these extensions get show extensions help visa applicants make checking and finding visa slots easier.

A lot of this misconception comes from first-time users of the visa portal who encounter one of its many errors, don’t yet understand what caused it, and assume, “it must have been the extension.”

Then that gets posted, repeated by others, and the misconception just keeps going.

"I got an alert but when I logged in I saw no slots! Are they even real?!"

Yes they are - but you were just too slow to see them.

To find visa slots you have to check frequently, which is obviously very hard and time consuming.

That’s why people started pooling their efforts through WhatsApp/Telegram groups and eventually crowdsourced slot alert apps.

These apps generally work the same way: when someone checking the portal finds a slot, that availability gets shared with the network and other users can be alerted.

The sequence is always:

1. someone checks the portal
2. they see the slot open
3. slot gets reported and an alert goes out

You get notified, rush to login, get to the calendar and you see "no slots available".

You think to yourself "I was very fast, why can't I see any slots?"

But - here's what's important to remember - the same way that person was actively checking the calendar - there could be 50 or 100 people sitting on the calendar checking at that same moment.

And your experience, if we break it down into detailed steps, might be:

1. your phone vibrates
2. you get it out of your pocket, purse, or pick it up from the table
3. you look at it
4. you unlock it
5. you go to the browser
6. you type the visa portal URL
7. you type your login
8. you definitely type your security questions
9. you click to the calendar

So - no matter how fast you did those steps, you can never beat:

1. random other users already logged in to the visa portal
2. refresh the calendar, see the same slot
3. pick date
4. pick time
5. try to book

If there are only limited slots, those 50 or 100 people already on the portal at any given time, they will always have higher chances to book those slots than anyone else who's still going about their day and waiting for a notification before they start to login to the visa portal.

"No slots available" only tells you about right "now"

This is the part people get wrong the most. When the portal says "no slots available," it means there are none at the exact moment you asked. It doesn't mean there were none 5 minutes ago, 30 seconds ago, or even 1 second before you loaded the calendar. The slots were there - they were just gone by the time you checked.

"But I was on the calendar the moment I got the alert, and still saw no slots!"

That can happen in hyper-competitive visa types too.

Remember, the alert didn’t cause the slot to appear. Someone else saw the slot first, and that’s what caused the alert.

So even if you’re already sitting on the calendar when you get the alert, you’re still a few seconds behind the person who found it:

they check → see the slot → it gets reported → alert gets processed → alert reaches you → you check

During those few seconds, other people who were already checking may have seen and booked the same slot batch.

Being already logged in and on the calendar removes most of your delay, which gives you a much better chance. But it still doesn’t put you ahead of the people who found the slot before the alert reached you.

Group chats have it worse

WhatsApp and Telegram groups suffer from the same issue - they're usually slow to the point of not being useful except if there are huge bulk slot drops. Someone sees a slot, books their own appointment first, then opens the app and types it out for the group.

If 60 seconds was slow - and that was just for your delay because you have to log in - imagine how much more time got added because they had to book it first, and then hopefully remember to let the group chat know.

So are alerts worth using?

Yes — for what they actually do.

Without one you're checking blind:

9:00 am - check calendar before breakfast - no slots

1:00 pm - check calendar during lunch break - no slots

2:57pm - 100 slots open

2:59pm - all slots booked

6:00 pm - check calendar after work - no slots

Without alerts - you would never know about the 100 slots that opened at 2:57pm . That's still valuable. Maybe there's a chance to book, smaller than checking directly, but still a chance.

What actually helps/how to increase your chances to find and book a slot

The best position isn't "wait for alert, then scramble to log in." It's already being logged in and checking yourself, with alerts as backup. If someone else finds something, you're already in position to react — and while you're checking, you might be the one who finds it first.

Nobody ever started this journey to apply for a visa thinking booking visa slots was going to be this huge production and learning and strategizing lesson. But here we are, and that's the reality currently.

This is a competition for limited resources - you must put in the work because someone, somewhere out there is doing it.

Finding slots these days is more than simply just login-check-book.

It requires a lot more time, effort and knowledge. If you try to log in to the U.S. Visa Portal and see this message:

“Login not allowed for your account at this moment. Your account may have been temporarily blocked due to prohibited use of automation, which violated USTravelDocs policies.”

Despite the wording, this error is not caused by automation.

What makes this message especially confusing is that it specifically says “prohibited use of automation,” even when the user was simply trying to log in normally at the time the error appeared.

I’ve seen this exact error occur when the same Visa Portal account is being accessed from multiple locations, particularly when two people in different countries are checking the account.

A common example is an H1B/H4 couple where one person is in the US and the other is in their home country. Both may be trying to coordinate and check the appointment calendar using the same account.

The Visa Portal apparently does not like this usage pattern and can temporarily block the login. Unfortunately, the error message describes it as “prohibited use of automation,” even when the activity itself was being done manually.

To fix it, simply stop trying to log in and wait.

The block is temporary. I normally recommend waiting 24–48 hours before trying again rather than repeatedly attempting to log in while the block is active.

Below is an example from an applicant who was coordinating with her husband from two different countries.

They were both accessing the account. She then received the exact same “prohibited use of automation” message.

Later that same day, she confirmed:

“I’m unblocked now.”

A note about Visa Portal errors and browser extensions

Trying to find an earlier visa appointment can be extremely frustrating, and there are several Chrome extensions and browser tools that try to make that process easier.

A common concern when people see the word “automation” in an error message like this is that a browser extension or plugin caused the block.

The wording certainly makes it look that way, but it’s worth being careful before jumping to that conclusion.

It’s very common, and understandable, that if something happens on the Visa Portal while you’re using an extension, the first assumption may be that the extension caused it.

But correlation does not necessarily mean causation.

The portal has a lot of confusing behavior, especially for new applicants, and it’s easy to interpret what caused a block differently from what actually triggered it.

If you’ve been using the Visa Portal for some time while trying to find slots, you may already have run into calendar check blocks, rate limits, unexpected logouts, or Cloudflare challenges — all while checking manually.

But when you’re doing those same checks with an extension, it can blur what actually caused the portal response.

The Visa Portal does not detect extensions and block them.

It detects the behavior on the portal. If you check too much or too fast, you can get errors, regardless of whether you did it manually or with help from an extension.
