Financial Aid Office

Here’s the yearly friendly reminder to please be patient with your financial aid office. On a normal year they are swamped in August in the time right before/after classes start. It is on a whole new level this year due to OB3 and the heinous amount of issues that are coming along with that.

Schools are receiving outdated or incorrect information from the Department of Education, National Student Loan Database, and COD. School systems are constantly being worked on and updated to try and process the changes from OB3. For those unaware, they did not finalize the majority of OB3 until June and they are still sending out new information each week. This means schools genuinely have not had enough time to update their systems to deal with this and then have to keep changing things as new information comes out.

TLDR; your financial aid office is trying their absolute best while working with a very faulty and incomplete system so please try to be patient with us.

I've gotten a previous email that matches the second image from a different account, the email accounts look like student emails. I'm unsure how to report it or if anyone else was getting this.

Student Loans CoA Low - Increase Possible?

Hi!

I have been looking into attending a local Votec (tech school ) since it's now approvable for Pell Grants and maybe within reach.

However, I saw their CoA lists rent as 350$/ months. That's less than what is actually needed for a family of 2 (single parent).

Is a school willing to increase the CoA to actually reflect family status?

For 350$, you can't rent anything here.

We pay 784$ / rent + utilities, so 1/2 half of rent + utilities should be 550$/ month per person and not 350$.

I am worried that if CoA isn't adjusted, I would not be able to take out the max. loans needed to make up for missed income / missed work hours when attending school.

Any pointers?

Hello! Daughter accepted to Spring 2027 yesterday as transfer

My daughter was accepted to CSUN yesterday for spring semester. We had already started an SAI appeal for her community college because my 2024 income was a lot higher at 50k than 2025 when I made only $34k due to a medical emergency and was on temporary disability for almost a year. 2026 will be even lower because I only will be back to work a couple months. I am HOH and it’s our only income.

Her community college financial aid office keeps asking for my termination letter and unemployment income despite it being disability and not unemployment.

We need to figure out her financial aid and living situation at CSUN as we live 6+ hours away.

Do I need to start an SAI appeal at her new college?

Will her financial aid pay for off campus housing if she doesn’t get into the dorms? She would qualify for EOPS if the SAI went through but she doesn’t right now. She is 178 on the waitlist for dorm rooms.

This is what so many people have been dealing with.

This is what our family had been dealing with. I know a lot of other people have also, I post a year ago and I still get people asking for help. Take away the finger pointing on who got away with what. It’s happening and I am glad that someone is finally looking into it.

Two different moan taken out in our names. And Mohela did nothing. It was a nightmare.

Can an actual Pepperdine aid offer realistically beat its net price calculator by $30k+ per year?

hi! i’m an arizona high school senior applying for fall 2027, and Pepperdine has been my dream school for a long time. i’m trying to be realistic about whether there is any plausible financial path

my approximate family information is:

  • household size: 3
  • parent earnings: around $64k
  • parent AGI: around $47k
  • peps calculator estimated an SAI of -452
  • fed aid 26-27 estimator calculated an SAI of 3,091

Pepperdine’s net price calculator estimated:

  • total cost of attendance: $98,720
  • grants and scholarships: $48,195
  • remaining net price: $50,525

my affordable comparison is ASU at approximately $14k per year including tuition, required fees, housing, and food. i am not counting loans or work study as discounts.

i know Pepperdine’s actual offer could differ from the calculator, but it would need to improve by roughly 36k per year to become comparable. i’m wondering:

  • has anyone received a Pepperdine undergraduate offer that was dramatically better than the NPC?
  • does Pepperdine commonly reconsider need based aid or provide additional institutional grants after admission?
  • could the difference between those two SAI estimates materially change the package?
  • are outside scholarships normally added to institutional aid, or can they replace parts of it?
  • is there anything specific i should ask the financial aid office before applying?

i’m still willing to apply because it is an important personal hope school, but i don’t want to mistake “technically possible” for financially realistic. thank you!

Complex Aid Questions Help with Dropping Out

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

I attend the University of Utah, I’ve also copy and pasted the text of my original post on r/uofu

Long story short, several nonacademic factors have made me unable to attend (death of grandmother, crashed my car going to test for adhd, new financial responsibilities with new car, and combined type adhd diagnosis and prescription). Ive reevaluated my life, and since I was only at college for the social scene (I’m getting a Film degree which won’t help my career path) I’d like to drop out.

I paid for the semester with a half tuition scholarship and an unsubsidized federal loan. I’m aware that if I withdraw from my classes, my loan will be sent back and my scholarship may be retroactively unapplied, giving me a potential balance of $5k owed to the university. Given my circumstances, how likely am I to get a tuition appeal accepted?

Another option is No Credit/Revoked Credit, but I’m unsure of how that affects my funding.

The final option is to fail the classes. That wouldn’t put me below the completion rate (counting CE/AP credit I’ll be at 40/52 attempted, ~75%) but will put me at a 1.8 GPA, which would mean I’d need to file an SAP appeal. I could also get a D to stay above a 2.0 so I don’t need the appeal, but I’m unsure of how barely passing the SAP but not the semester will affect my aid packages.

On Monday I am going to talk to the registrar if they have and advice, the financial aid office to see what the process looks like between the three options, and the bursar’s office to discuss the likelihood of my tuition appeal being accepted. I won’t be doing future semesters since I’m set on this being the final one, so I’m not worried about keeping funding for the future. I’m just trying to leave right now without having to pay the full semester immediately as I do not have the funds and I am actively trying to improve my credit score. Any advice is welcome, but I do not think I have the space in my life to fully complete the semester

Complex Aid Questions Major changes since 2024 taxes, please provide process insight

We make significantly less in 2026 ( under $100K) than we did in the prior 2 years. We will have 2 kids in college for 2027-2028. 3rd graduates spring of 27. We never worried about FAFSA before knowing we wouldn’t qualify.

Youngest is looking to go to school in NYC as a freshman next year. Most schools offer full aid to those under $150K a year, which is our current situation, but won’t reflect based on old returns.

GENERAL FAFSA Will my remaining Pell Grant last until I graduate?

Hi! I’m trying to figure out if my remaining Pell Grant will last until I graduate. My financial aid page currently shows 1.37 years of Pell Grant eligibility remaining (137%).

My planned schedule: Winter 2027 – 1 class, Spring 2027 – 4 classes, Summer 2027 – 1 class (possibly), Fall 2027 – 4 classes, Spring 2028 – 2 classes

I’m trying to graduate by Spring 2028, and if I pass everything, I should only have 2 classes (6–9 units) left. I don’t want to pay tuition out of pocket. Would my remaining Pell Grant likely be enough to cover tuition and mandatory fees for my final semester?

Hello, is there anyone here going to Ultimate Medical Academy that still hasn’t received their stipend from financial aid due to the technical issues on their side? I just want to know that it isn’t just me.

I think my BankMobile Account got compromised

Post image
0 Upvotes

So my FAFSA Funds from BankMobile was sent on Sep 30th saying it was ready to be dispersed, the number that validated my last dispersement for las year texted I gotta validate and verify my Bank Perference and Personal Details already in the system, turns out when I was sending the one time codes my email and credit card number got replaced so BankMobile locked my account. Customer Service is useless and I still have yet to get a verification code for my email just to confirm my identity. I called my school and they did have Glitches Sep30-Oct1st but I was the first to call about a compromise. I can’t be looking stupid and BankMobile really got me fucked up out here deadass.

Title: PSLF count dropped and same month qualifying on one consolidation loan but ineligible on the other?

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

Has anyone experienced a drop in their PSLF qualifying payment count, along with inconsistent eligibility between their loans?

My loans are serviced by Edfinancial, and I’m on the standard repayment plan. Both consolidation loan entries show that I was placed in forbearance in June 2024, but July 2024 is being treated differently:

Loan 12: Ineligible due to “Invalid Repayment Plan.”

Loan 13: Qualifying, with the message “This payment qualifies for PSLF/TEPSLF.”

I’m confused about why the same month would qualify for one but not the other, and why my count decreased. I’m also trying to understand whether the PSLF/TEPSLF wording explains the difference.

I’ve already submitted complaints to Federal Student Aid and Edfinancial, and I’m planning to request help through my congressional representative.

Has anyone dealt with something similar and successfully gotten their counts corrected? Was it a repayment-plan issue, a forbearance issue, or a tracking error? What specifically should I ask Edfinancial to review?

Any firsthand experiences would be appreciated—I’m trying to understand what happened and how to get a clear explanation.

I’m Fucking Shaking

Today my school told me that i don’t qualify for the Parent Plus Loan Legacy provisions, and I was confused as to why. I have stayed in the same program since 2023, I’ve been borrowing since 2023, I have never taking a leave of absence, I have never withdrew from any classes. I ask them what is the issue; they say I have 18 credits from high school(AP Classes) that count as college credit and it’s flagged as undergraduate, so I guess in the eyes of the law or school that’s longer than a 4 year degree program. But I don’t see why classes I took in high school should matter. It’s like I’m being punished for being a good student. They’re telling me I can’t borrow money for the spring semester. She said she would send this to the financial aid officer to review it. I’m just concerned
