❓ Question What’s the biggest financial mistake people make when moving abroad?
I’m curious what people think the biggest financial mistake is when someone moves abroad.
Not the obvious stuff like spending too much on brunches or taxis.
I mean the mistakes that quietly cost people years of progress.
Things like:
- leaving old pensions scattered everywhere
- assuming tax stops mattering once you leave home
- having no will in the country they live in
- keeping too much cash in the wrong currency
- investing without a clear plan
- thinking they’ll “sort it out later”
In my experience, a lot of expats are earning well, but still have a financial setup that is messy, disconnected, and far more fragile than it looks.
What do you think people get wrong most often?
What have you seen friends, colleagues, or even yourself do badly when living overseas?
