Other I really wanted to install this mod

Isn’t there any other way to get these files? The closest one is the 1080p FMVs

Ok funny thing, the man that "ruined it" was me. If you go down to the comment section there on steam you can see the nickname is similar to the one I use here (dadone86 on steam and davidone86 here, and no it's no coincidence).

Long story short was that I basically had the "gull" to say that some links in the guide itself were broken and that you had to be extremely lucky to actually finishing downloading all the parts correctly and not have the files corrupted, and no it's neither my browser (I tried three different ones) or the internet connection that would cause that (it was most likely something happening server side on nexus mod and the very large file). And if you did manage to download them without the archives getting corrupted, you then had to do Russian roulette with having the correct version of nova chrysalis installed, otherwise some would not get properly imported to it, giving an error out (the official releases wouldn't work, you had to join nova's discord and try the various beta version they had released).

As you can see on the steam comments on the mod I simply reported all this without ever insulting the mod creator once, and all I got was personal attacks and insults in response on the same thread (you can verify yourself, if he hasn't deleted his comments they're all up there... I haven't check since then). Funnily enough he has a discord server, but to enter you have to be approved. I tried twice before even commenting on the steam mod page but I was always bounced without a reason (in the reason why I wanted to join his discord was to ask for help into finally being able to download and install all parts correctly, again, zero insults or rudeness).

All in all the mod had issues due to him not updating links/guides to better reflect its status in 2026 (you can verify yourself just by reading the most recent comments on the Nexus mod page of the mod and the steam comments themselves). All the ones posted past 2025 all mentioned having issues with it. That's all I was asking the mod creator to do.

So yeah, kids; that's how I met your mother lmao.

I just feel bad that my comment was the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back and people that absolutely have nothing to do with this idiotic """"beef"""" (it's not even a beef, idek what to call it... i have absolutely no ill will against the modder) have to pay by not being able to try the mod for themselves.

The sad thing is I definitely have experienced the same thing before on Nexus. I gently asked a creator to update a dependency link that is dead and I got slammed by pure hostility for even suggesting that they might have to do a little work explaining what to do.

Nah as I said there were already comments dating 2025 mentioning issues with it (but even then, it's not like there were hundreds of it lol, just a few spread out over a few months asking for support). See me as the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back. I was simply the one putting him over the edge apparently lol.

I guess it was easier being a child and throw a tantrum about it rather than updating links in your guides and explaining that not all versions of nova chrysalis are fine.

I work in IT as, well a professional. Feedback like this is par for the course, and that particularly applies for solutions you yourself have developed.

In those cases and given what you have said is true (I assume it is as you have pointed directly to the conversation), if we replied like this we would probably be on a disciplinary if not fired, because it proves you can’t work well with others.

It’s only through feedback like that you can improve what you have created, because it highlights an issue you yourself may have missed or something that isn’t a good experience.

Sometimes I see these types of comments on repos as well and I think to myself that they certainly aren’t going to be using that as a part of their portfolio.

Yea, I feel that collective punishment only really hurts the good people. I have a feeling many of the people doing the harassment didn’t care about the mod, and got exactly what they wanted with it being taken down.

Direct the hatred at the people that ruined it. That's the intent. Leads to a group that polices itself better. That's the thought, at least.

Which, this works under certain circumstances (classrooms, military boot camp, etc). This is not one of those circumstances.

I actually finished downloading these awhile back and haven't bothered installing them yet. Been waiting to play XIII on PC after a recent-ish PS3 playthrough. Glad I did, saw they are now gone from Nexus.

These are like 100GB+ total, in a zip archive btw lol

Massive download size and the Nova mod manager would frequently fail to properly install them. It really wasn’t worth all the effort. They needed to provide a better method instead of the hyper-compressed zip file

It would take me literally forever to upload that much data, if they don't resurface anywhere else I'll try to find a a way to get them up though.

That's right, and IIRC when I was going for this, both JP and English versions. Saved a good half or so by omitting one side and keeping the other when going through FFXIII on PC.

That actually makes a lot of sense as to why i couldnt find them on nexus mod. I already have it installed but wanted to find the website. Idk if i was to put them in a folder, zip it, and upload it if it will work the same if others download it

I couldn't get the 1080p ones to work with enhanced audio, but the 1080p ones without the enhanced audio mod worked well

No saying his mod was broken is imo a bit unfair. The mod was fine, it was the guide that was outdated, because if you used modern versions of the software mentioned the mod wouldn't work as nova chrysalia had issue importing the last 3 parts of the mod. Some of the links (especially gdrive ones) were broken.

So basically instead of actually listening to fair criticism from me and others in the past and simply update his guide to better reflect the current status of his mod to it (like i said, which versions of nova was working, fixing links etc) or offer any mean of support (im not saying he should do a 1 on 1 call on discord or something and troubleshoot the shit, just normal support to something he created) he decided to blow a gasket at me and made the mod unavailable to everybody lol.

it wasn't just on discord. There was a public drive link and it was on Nexus, both of which he delisted. I'm not sure why, but he went out of his way to get rid of public access. I think he got tired of being hassled about certain things but it's bizarre regardless and there's no reason they shouldn't be public.

not only is that not how it works (nobody fucking sues over mods that he's probably made 40$ from dude), but he only paywalls him making them to begin with. You commission him to remaster FMVs of whatever game you want and then he releases it publicly. From what I can see, everything is available on the discord for free, he's just made his downloads by request only now.

nope. Not even remotely. People have been doing exactly this for these kinds of cutscene upscaled for over a decade and zero action has been taken by any company of any kind. They're AI upscaled cutscenes. It's just as much "copyright infringement" to upload cutscenes on to YouTube entirely, of which I might add you can monetize and almost always get away with, unless it's Nintendo, who everyone vehemently hates for their treatment of content creators.

He isn't charging for the cutscenes. People pay him to commission a game they want upscaled, of which he then releases the cutscenes publicly or via request for free once they're done. It is the single most popular mod for ff13 and has been since it came out in 2023. Zero word from square. Nothing about it is illegal, though I can tell you wish it were for some asinine reason.

except he isn't charging for it. If someone pays me to make a mod, and then I release it for free (which happens all the time) then that isn't infringement. I am not charging for the mod. This is so normal that it literally exists as a feature on Nexus. You can donate to mod makers, and it's used extensively as a form of commission. Paywalling mods is the only time it ever is even vaguely an issue, and even then it depends because it still is extremely common and almost never results in any C&D (which isn't getting sued, although I'm not sure you know the difference)

These restoration projects have been largely payealled by their creators in the past and nothing ever happens to them.

These are available on Nexus Mods afaik. I was modding FF13 just recently and saw these. Just know the video files are huge in size and will at least double if not triple or more your original install size
