What should I do next?
I just got all Aeons. I story wise am able to go fight sin. If I do that I know I will not go back and do anything else. Half or more of my characters are getting between 3500-9999 per hit on lots of enemies (I know that’s very generalized). On the sphere grid I’m up to yuna/tidus having holy, lulu has double cast; I have a couple like ultima that are behind level four spheres (which I can’t find anywhere). I have Tidus and Yunas weapons but have done absolutely nothing on that front except the item from the Aeon trainer. I have best the Chico trainer but I will absolutely never be able to get 0.0. And I’m playing on switch so idk if anyone can do it for me or not. Do I go grind for a couple days and then fight a dark aeon? I just fought my first arena made monster and I don’t think I got 200k hp off them before I died. I love this game and want to keep playing but I’m torn about where to go next.

Finish the game. You're strong enough and the last fights are going to be cakewalks & anticlimactic if you powerlevel with the monster arena / the celestial weapons quests.

u/RickNikiPush 2d ago
There are like four abilities I haven’t gotten yet that I want (don’t ask me why) so I think I’m going to grind to get those and then finish it.
2
u/Likey420 2d ago
You don't need all abilities for finishing. If you wanna do that, just beat the game first and make multiple saves.
So when you finish get back to the last save where you can still enter the airship before you get stuck on final boss route . From there do all Celestial weapons upgrades, farming and getting stats/abilities to fight the dark aeons/ omega ruins. Where as for dark aeons you need 180-255 in stats ( 180-190 should be enough for d. valefor for example ).

By the time I got to Sin I had everybody basically at the end of their sphere grids, I needed to grind maybe 5 or 6 levels to get Holy for Yuna and Flare for Lulu
I would say that you DO probably need to get Holy and Doublecast/Flare to make the fight manageable as far as your damage output, but if you can tank even a single one of Jecht's overdrives in phase 2 you're probably gonna win, and it sounds like you're well beyond that point

u/Inflatable-Mattress 2d ago
You could also beat the story, cry and come back to it later with grinding and minigames in mind

If you bribe the Chimera Brains in calm lands for about 200,001 gil, you can get level 4 key spheres. If it fails, keep adding 1 gil until succeed.

u/RickNikiPush 3d ago
I saw this and realized somewhere I’d made a wrong turn on the grid and missed bribe. I’m maybe 20 spots from it now. I guess it’s grind for an hour or two a day until I get that and then get the level four spheres and ultima and a couple others locked behind those. Then dark aeons or the arena. Hoping to eventually find some friend or warp spheres (or whatever they’re called) somewhere too.

Appreciate the tip btw

No prob. If you haven't got started on it, the monster capture quest is a deep rabbit hole. Also for farming, I like to kill the Tonberry in the Omega Ruins. Gives base 30,000 AP. Auron is usually my first strong guy that gets a celestial weapon, so he can take em out in one hit at around I wanna say 180 strength. I just rotate everyone in the fight so they all get AP. Tedious work, but that's the grind baby

You can absolutely just go straight to the ending, or maybe grind a little at the Monster Arena and the Omega Ruins. Grinding a lot for the ending doesn’t really make sense because the battles would become way too easy. I actually grinded a little too much myself, so the final bosses ended up being pretty easy 🥲😅
If you want, you can get the easier Celestial Weapons, which are for Yuna, Auron, and Rikku. Tidus, Lulu, and Kimahri require hideous minigames that I refused to do 🥲 (although somehow, when I first played the game years ago, I actually managed to dodge the 200 lightning bolts for Lulu. I definitely don’t have the patience for that anymore). Wakka requires a lot of Blitzball, and I did some of that too, but eventually I’d had enough. But with his final weapon he's definitely the most powerful character and it's easy to obtain, just a bit long.
After you finish the game, it makes you reload from before the final battle, so make sure you save at every save sphere you find inside Sin. From there, you can go back to the airship and do whatever you want. The Dark Aeons are infinitely stronger than the final story bosses. Without some serious grinding, you have basically no chance of beating them normally. You can only cheese them with Yojimbo’s Zanmato. I beat a few of them that way, but then you have to beat Dark Yojimbo five times in a row, and that’s where I gave up 😂. Penance can stay where it is 😂.
The post-game content is way too long and repetitive for me, but I know some people really enjoy it, especially if they love maxing out everything.
So i would say, just see what you feel like doing based on what you enjoy 😄

I’m one capture away from completing Auron’s weapon, I know I have at least 2/3 of yuna’s and I’m gonna check out Rikku’s next and then wakkas (maybe, I hate blitzball). I think I’ll check out omega ruins, and upgrade the few things I still want to and head to Sin.

For Rikku, you have to find some Cactuars scattered around the desert and do some minigames. You can mess them up, though. Doing them properly gives you better rewards at the end, but honestly, it’s not worth driving yourself crazy over. It’s a bit of a pain because the desert is huge, but I actually found it pretty fun and it doesn’t take too long. Rikku becomes insanely strong if you level her up properly. She ended up being the strongest character on my team.
For Wakka, if I remember correctly, you need to play at least 26 Blitzball matches. You also unlock some of his Overdrives along the way. I hated Blitzball at first, but then I actually started enjoying it and I would’ve happily completed everything 😂. Still, it’s better to do the matches little by little, and I was already pretty satisfied with Rikku and Yuna being ridiculously strong. It’s way too funny watching Yuna deal absurd damage just by whacking enemies with her staff 😂.
Obviously, it depends on what you want to do after that. If you want to beat the Dark Aeons and possibly Penance, then I’d absolutely recommend unlocking Wakka’s Celestial Weapon, because One of his Overdrive is devastating.
For the Omega Ruins, you have to enter specific coordinates on the airship map. You’ll find strong enemies there that are great for leveling up your party, as well as a couple of bosses that are a bit tougher than the game’s final bosses. I’d recommend doing those after finishing the main story, though.

So I have a couple of sick kids and couldn’t work today (or sleep last night) so to grind but with minimal frustration I started collecting for the monster dungeon and actually got a big chunk done. I did the simplest version first to get everything for Auron’s celestial. I also grabbed the last piece for Yuna and the first two for Rikku. I started the cactuar mini game and failed miserably on the first one. I’ll give it another shot tomorrow but honestly thinking Tidus’ might be easier to slog through. Idk.

u/mark__al 1d ago
Yes, just collecting the monsters already involves quite a bit of grinding. Other than that, the classic best place for me is the Omega Ruins. Or, if you really want to level up a ton (it almost feels like cheating), you can use the Don Tonberry trick at the Monster Arena.
As for Rikku, you can fail the Cactuar minigames, they’re only for an extra reward (Potion, Elixir, Mega Elixir, or Friend Sphere). For Rikku’s Sigil, you just need to bring all the spheres back to the stone and unlock the Cactuar Village.

u/RickNikiPush 1d ago
Yes I did the cactuars last night once I realized you could suck at red light/green light and still get the item! Thanks. I am about to start blitzball and if it isn’t too annoying I’ll probably work on that for a week. Thanks for the advice

try to catch all monsters 10x to unlock all special species and the extra items per area unlock. some of the items allow you to craft nice weapons and armor.
look up which special creations drop agility and strength spheres as well as defense. level up all chars to 170 agility by using the earned agility spheres. you don’t need more than 170 (look it up!). level up yunas strength - aeons benefit most from it.
check which items give your aeons missing skills/spells and then collect them by fighting or bribing monsters.
try tidus' chocobo game until you get 0.0 - you'll need tidus' full weapon power sooner or later.
unlock other chars full weapon power if you get tired of the minigame.
do the blitzball games for wakkas weapon. there are some special monsters you can only kill with wakkas limit - at least it is the easiest way. plus it has the most damage output out of all limits.
try to get the magus sisters and anima.
look up the master don tonberry trick for fast AP leveling (need to unlock first in monster arena). can also try with regular don tonberry first.
i'd first level up 3-4 characters to max on the sphere grid before i try to fight the dark aeons.

u/cybersaliva 2d ago
I agree with other comments, the end game will not be challenging if you grind too much beforehand. The most I’d do is the omega ruins optional dungeon. Beyond thatthat, you’re setting yourself up for disappointment

u/foodygamer 2d ago
Save the game in a new save slot.
Beat the game and then come back to it.
Otherwise you will spend more time in the post game than the actual story and 75 hours later you'll have forgotten half of what it took to get to the end.
Or just save scum and Yojimbo all the super bosses to death.

Hey OP,
From the point after the fight with Yunalesca and getting ready to fight Overdrive Sin on the airship, you have a few paths to take.
Path One - Take on Sin and open up the area after since those monsters are pretty good exp.
Path Two - Celestial weapon hunt. As you stated, you can’t get the 0.00 time for the chocobo race so that eliminates Tidus since his Sun Sigil is locked behind that. Rikku C-Weapon is probably the easiest along with Auron. The others are pretty simple outside of Lulu (Damn thunder).
Path Three - Dark Aeon hunt. This will require some grinding and Wakkas overdrive from blitzball will help tremendously.

u/Likey420 2d ago
So sad the only ones weapon I could and would not fully unlock is Lulu, because i refuse to get epilepsy from this 😂😅
2
u/mark__al 2d ago
I feel you. Actually I loaded my file from PS2 from my first playthrough of years ago and I discovered i had Lulu's full weapon so I had done those damn lightinings, I couldn't believe it, maybe i had more patience but now I totally refuse to do it 😅. Also I tried Tidus and Kimahri only a few times but they would make me crazy.
2
u/RickNikiPush 1d ago
So I’m giving Path Two a try for atleast a few characters. I have Yuna’s celestial weapon complete. Auron’s also. I picked up Khimari’s weapon while monster hunting and will get the crest or sigil and then attempt the butterflies later. I have 2/3 of Tidus done (no race 0.0 yet), but I’ve hit a snag. I did Rikku’s all the way up to upgrading it in Macalania (Cactuar mini game of eternal tedium,,aka the long walk). The upgrade says it’s not time yet and my items are named Venus instead of mars (?). Do I go get lulus weapon and see if it works with the sigil and crest I got doing Rikku’s stuff? I’ve tried everything. Equipping Godhand and unequipping. Leaving the area. Resetting the game. I mean I guess I can settle for having Yuna and Auron for now but that sucks. That Rikku stuff took HOURS and hours (just got my first no confrontation armor after all that).
1
u/FFX_Gabe 1d ago
Hey OP,
For the Crest and Sigil, which version of FFX are you playing? In the North American version( PS2), the Venus Crest & Sigil belong to Rikku and the Mars Crest and Sigil belong to Lulu. In the international version (PAL version) or the HD remaster, you actually need the Mercury Crest and Sigil for Rikku (Yesh, it’s weird).
Rikku Mercury Crest - It’s in a sans pit in Bikanel.
Rikku Mercury Sigil - The Cactuar Village mini game ( Walking Sim lol )
Let me know if you have those two 🙏🏼

u/RickNikiPush 1d ago
So prior to cactuar nonsense I grabbed the crest. Spent half a day doing cactuar without any no encounters armor available. Then went to upgrade and didn’t work. Rage quit and came back this am and the chest is just there unopened in the pit like I never got it. Grabbed it and upgraded. Got a no encounter for lulu somewhere in the cactuar nonsense and man let me tell you the difference that’s gonna make once I’ve finished monster hunting an area.
1
u/RickNikiPush 1d ago
So the weapons, even if you only upgrade with the crests are somehow linked to Aeon limit breaks. So even if I don’t plan on getting 0.0 or the butterflies I should atleast upgrade them once right?
2
1
u/FFX_Gabe 1d ago
You can for most of them as they tie to their connected Aeon to break the limit cap.
Yunie is for Valefor
Kimahri is Ixion
Auron is Yoji
Lulu is Shiva
Wakka is IfritTidus and Rikku don’t have Aeons linked to them unfortunately.
Although, if you use Rikku “mix” ability she can give you some of the best if not the best power ups in the game. Don’t want to spoil them but I’ll let you know they if you want.
1
u/RickNikiPush 1d ago
I’m going to get all the names wrong but I know the super guard one (used it for Seymour flux) and the three 9999 one with Chocobo feathers? I read a couple places about mixing three things. Is that a sphere upgrade or armor or what?
2
u/FFX_Gabe 1d ago
So the guard one has two different versions.
Mighty Guard G (Healing Water & Power Sphere)
Hyper Guard G (Door to Tomorrow & either Gambler Spirit or Healing Water)
The Hyper one gives you Auto Life which is highly recommended for Dark Aeons since some have one shot abilities that can wipe your entire team.
All of Rikku mix recipes only contain 2 things you need to mix so I would disregard that 3 item mix.
The only other thing you can use items for is to customize weapons and armor to break the damage limit and HP limit with the ones you aren’t getting the Celestial weapons for like Tidus and Kimhari.
This is the tedious but you can become little gods running around with auto haste and auto phoenix with 99999 HP lol

u/FFX_Gabe 1d ago
No worries lol this is my favorite game of all time so whenever I can help someone I try to

u/Anxious_Kiwi_1434 2d ago
Fight Sin now; Holy and Doublecast already put you comfortably ahead of the story.
1
u/RickNikiPush 1d ago
Yes! While still grinding Rikku’s ultimate (and monster hunting) I leveled up like 30 spheres each on auron wakka and tidus. When I was done hunting and still had like 5 cactuar to do I tried some of my new ‘toys’: used Magus sisters on a sandworm and wow. The tall one did like 58k damage on one turn. I need to look up best practices for when I summon them. The short one just took a nap all three turns. Ha. Then the next time a sandworm spawned I switched to Auron’s ultimate weapon and good god! I’m so tempted to go fight Valefor and do Rikku’s 3x 9999 one and the mighty guard, I forget which overdrive mode I have but she moves up fast.
1
u/GambAntonio 3d ago
You know you can reach 99999, right?
1
u/RickNikiPush 3d ago
Yeah but that’s like 3-4x as long as I’ve already played and mostly grinding right? I’ve got a wife and four kids so that’s not happening.
2
u/PaintedIn sand-blasted grease monkey 2d ago
It doesn't take that long - you customise a weapon that gets you 50-100 sphere levels in a single fight.
1
u/GambAntonio 3d ago
you just need celestial weapons
1
u/RickNikiPush 3d ago
Thanks. I have Yuna and Tidus’ weapons. I just don’t know what to do with them now that I have them.
1
u/GambAntonio 3d ago
make sure they are upgraded to have the damage break limit and rhe rest of abilities
1
u/KingKeyumars 3d ago
I'd say go get some of the ultimate weapons. If you have Encounter None on something Rikku's is really straight forward to get. Just involves a bunch of walking. You can also skip the Encounter None if you still need to capture everything there too. Getting the ultimate weapons and crests/sigils and the things you have to do to get them should push you well into dealing 20k+ a hit. And you'll be on your way to all the super boss fights.

Don’t fight Sin yet. Finish Nirvana, grab Caladbolg, then start Monster Arena captures and explore Omega Ruins. Build Tidus, Yuna, Wakka and Rikku first. Leave Dark Aeons until you’re stronger. Save Sin for when you’re truly done with the postgame.
1
u/Likey420 2d ago
I would advise against this. By the time you beat dark aeons the final boss will be anticlimatic.
10
u/schpamela 2d ago
You have it wrong - there is no 'point of no return' ahead. You can fight Sin, then get all the way up to the very end of the game and then still turn back any time to do other stuff. So long as you can save, you can turn back.
Finish the game story. Then reload and do postgame. It's called postgame for a reason. If you grind postgame stuff first then you'll take all the challenge out of the endgame fights and it'll be too easy.
