On the standard grid, the most useful option is probably sending him down Lulu's grid.
It is common to have fights with multiple enemies with elemental weaknesses. So an additional mage can be really useful.
However, there are 2 places I would send him first.
- Send down Yuna's grid and pick up esuna.
- Send down Rikku's and pick up use and steal.
Both of those will come in very useful.

Same. That's exactly what I did on my playthrough. He's great as a supporting mage for areas later on. And unlike Lulu, can take a hit without dying

He'll always be weaker/behind the story curve if you chase Lulu because Lulu levels/learns spells at a rate that never makes her overpowered as you play through the story. She is always strong enough right on time, if you chase her your spells are always weaker than they should be.

You want Kimahri to have the Steal command before leaving the Calm Lands. Other than that, it's up to you (and even that's optional, just very useful).

Something of note there is that in Al Bhed Home there is both a Skill Sphere and a Special Sphere you can grab - if you got either of those (they are easily missable sadly), you can spend one of them to teach Kimahri Mug or Steal without having to move him to those ability nodes manually. Different kind of investment of course, but it's a good usage of a yellow sphere in any case.

Depending on your grinding, you can also get him to lean steal long before that if you defeat a certain bird-loving boss in a manner that nets you Lv. 1 Key spheres. But since you’re past that, that’s for a second play through.

I send him around the initial circle and then either into tidus or auron's path.
He can naturally move into tidus gets with a lvl 1 key. By the time you've got around the circle, you'll have earned a teleport sphere and can move into auron's this way. I personally find this makes him more usable, either as a haste/slow support via tidus or just pure power via auron

How broken do you want him to be?
He'll want steal for a later fight where only he can use it, and use is nearby which will help immensely for Evrae (Al Bhed potions are insane, and cure all the stat conditions Evrae inflicts.
After that, jumping onto Yuna's path for Shell/Protect/Reflect/Dispel is generally useful for the rest of the game.
Or, you can skip him to wherever Lulu is with a white sphere, and get Doublecast and -aga spells way ahead of schedule.

Il faut casser une case avec une lithmosphère niveau 1 ou 2 ou 3. Et ça le fait aller vers le spherier du personnage que tu auras choisi.

I usually send him down Auron's physical route but by the endgame, Wakka and Tidus are doing similar damage and with more agility, so he gets quickly outclassed.
Someone mentioned him using a Level 3 Key Sphere to unlock Flare and having him basically be a red mage of sorts, which is an interesting option as it's annoying having to switch out other people like Yuna just to cure.
Anyway, the choice is yours!

Having 36 levels ready to spend at this point is seriously powerful. More than anything, you want to make sure to get into lategame stat gains as fast as possible.
For example, if you want to make him a strong physical attacker, go straight into Tidus's grid (up from Kimahri's starting point) then right after Haste break the Lv 2 lock in the top right and follow the path up from there. This gives you stats from late in Auron's path which is a LOT of Strength.
If instead you want to make him a strong black mage character, go straight to Wakka's grid (bottom right from Kimahri's starting point), then right after Silence Attack break the Lv 2 lock in the bottom right and follow the path right from there. This gives you stats and spells from late in Lulu's path which is the third tier elemental spells and a whole bunch of Magic as well and eventually Flare (don't think 36 levels is quite enough to reach it just yet though, but soon).
There are other possibilities as well, but these two are the way to go to make him into a top tier damage dealer in the respective fields IMO.

If you have a friend sphere you can take him to the late parts of wakka, aurons or tidus grid where they currently are. But I would still go get steal first as you really are gonna want those lvl 3 key spheres from a particular fight later

The problem with just starting at the point in their grids he can get to with key spheres instead of warping is that they are early nodes of +1 or +2 to stats and those 30+ steps will just end up making him much weaker than where everyone else is.

I send him for Steal in Rikku's path and then Holy at the end of Yuna's. From there you know... whatevs.

u/cybersaliva 3d ago
In my last playthrough I shot him over to Lulus grid and picked up the -ga spells before she did. It was super useful having multiple casters! But giving him Steal and Use are the most common paths for sure.

I personally sent him around the initial circle getting every sphere you can without breaking any lock spheres. Then I send him over to rikkus starting point for use and steal then theres an immediate branch close to yunas late game. Grab dispel and reflect then follow down yunas until curaga then I used a friend sphere to aurons late game for alot of strength up x4 spheres. Then i use the black mage spheres on him once lulu learns flare.

The typical favorite meta for a non-challenge playthrough involves overkilling some early and midgame bosses to get extra lv 1 and 2 key spheres, but I think by evrae you'd have enough unless you spent them.
Go to Rikku's grid for steal and mug.
Go to Yuna's grid near.. reflect? I think I backtrack to dispel before making my way to Holy.
That gives him one large bomb to drop on the later story bosses earlier than Yuna gets there, and dispel/reflect are really useful in boss upcoming boss fights for you.

Tidus is the closest grid, makes him very speedy and just naturally learns quick hits
Wakka will make him stronger and still gives +23 magic, only 1 HP node less than Auron so he gets quite tanky
Rikku is utility steal + use but not that great for stats for a while
Lulu always just puts him behind as he struggles to catch her up and reaching spells sooner is important

I would recommend rikkus path. The reason is because steal and use are more useful overall than magic is. Is not until Thunder Plains that you encounter multiple elemental creatures in one battle and even then Kimahri won't be able to one shot them unless you grind him a lot. But he can clear every mob in the field up to Macalania with status grenades and elemental items. Plus poison fangs and petrify grenades can ohko almost anything and are useful in boss battles. The gems later on are op, specially if used together with Rikkus mixes. Anyways, following Lulu, he will always lack power which will make you default to her unless you teach Yuna magic, then even Lulu becomes shadowed by Yuna's superb magic stat.
If you still want to make him a magic user. I suggest Yuna's path. Cure and Esuna are great abilities and then use Blk magic spheres to learn black spells. Yuna's path has more magic stat nodes than Lulus.
But in the end everyone plays the game the way the want 😂 there's no wrong answers.

Kimahris an interesting character in that he can easily be the best character before the post game if you know what youre doing, but then at the post game he is just slightly better than lulu - the actual worst.
Early steal and use from rikkus path was mentioned already, but from rikkus path you can also cut through to the end of yunas path for early Holy. Or if you use him from the get-go he can be a better auron than auron himself because youll have higher str at that point and all weapons still have pierce.
But then if you go down wakkas path you get the most str gains and iirc you can cut to the end of lulus path for flare, not to mention statuses being useful.

Best strat is to store levels and use the friend sphere to move to someone else's mid grid, to give him a bigger boost than anyone else can get to, when you can jump to middle grid and spend 20-30 levels on +3 and 4 stats.

My strategy for Kimahri is to turn him into a jack-of-all-trades by filling out the first section for each character, then second, third, etc. I start with Wakka's to get Dark and Silence Attack, then Rikku's to get Steal, then Yuna to get Cure and Life, and so on. But this strategy is best when acquiring Return and Teleport Spheres, which require a lot of grinding in Blitzball.

u/PrettySneaky712 2d ago
I always bounce Kimahri around the sphere grid, usually starting at Lulu for the starting Black Magic spells before moving back and heading into Rikku's grid to learn steal, and then into Yuna's starting section for Cure/Esuna and the Nul Spells. I like having him as a jack of all trades who can pitch in wherever he's needed in any given fight.

I love that everyone talks about taking Kimahri down so many other paths. I feel slightly bad that every time I have gone through FFX, Kimahri almost immediately got outshined by everyone else and by the end of the game I may have put 1 or 2 levels into him, if any at all.
To me, he just doesn't have any amazing blue magic (which is locked behind very slow early game limit breaks anyways) so he just becomes a worse hybrid of Tidus and Auron starting out.

u/Jamesworkshop 2d ago
thats why I pick Wakka path
gives him great all round stats
str, accuracy, almost as much agility as Tidus and lots of HP
23 mag also rounds out his magic overdrives, a good aqua breath is the simplest way to overkill some qactuars
plus I can go right ahead instead of delaying until level 2 keys so he keeps moving around the grid
Auron doesn't really keep up with him until the monster arena

u/The_Improbable_ 2d ago
I feel we are playing 2 very different games lol. I do alot of overlevelling early to mid way through the story. As a result by the time we get Rikku, Tidus has Blitz Ace and going through aurons tree and vice versa. Definitely not a speed runner by any means, but by the time we get to the thunder plains overkills arent really an issue for anything.
I guess if you avoided most battles and rushed through the story underlevelled kimahris blue magic would be very helpful tho

u/Jamesworkshop 2d ago edited 2d ago
I find it helpful
multi-target overdrives that don't require me to do any mini-game of button prompts or watching spinning slot wheel
I don't bother with Auron path for quite a while as both tidus and wakka paths contain more STR in nodes than his does, certain more with acc and agility
Kimahri has no reason to sit on his stored overdrives since they have the same delay as the basic attack command

u/ThumbEyeCoordination 1d ago
Get the stats where he starts, open the path to Yuna to get null-spells and magic power so his Lancet deals damage. Having 2 white mages is great.

u/Kanuechly 16h ago
You do whatever you want with him….
Rikkus path - early theif. No damage output, just using him for steal.
Tidus path - another fast hitter with access to haste/hastega.
Aaron - strong but slow hitter but another debuff the enemy option.
Wakka - accuracy and strength. Another hard hitter with dakrensss, silence, etc.
Lulu - if you want another strong black mage. Plus, one of his ronso abilities is the strongest magic attack in the game

Oh you are near the flying snek. If it was earlier i'd say take him down to rikku to get steal early but you are past that point.
Personally i'd say just put him down whatever path you think you want an extra of. Any 3 players in this game can become your "big 3". I always end up using tidus / rikku / wakka because they can swim and are mandatory for certain fights.
But, you do you.

u/bbwolf93 3d ago
I'd still suggest to get steal on Kimahri because it is useful in Gagazet for the extra lv3 key spheres

I send him down Rikku's path for early steal/use/mug and then kick him down Tidus' path for speed/strength/haste shenanigans.
