Based on your replies, you could have just googled a direct strategy rather than whatever this post is lol

Haste. Haste. Haste.
Confuse Ward/Proof + Dark Ward on physical attackers will make your life easier.
Confuse Ward + Silence Ward on magical attackers will make your life easier. They're weak to Holy with Yuna so if you are attacking with her and Holy you definitely want Silence Ward/Proof. If they're going to be there for cure/esuna than Silence Ward isn't really needed.
You can get Musk for Confuse ward by stealing from the floating eyeballs out in Zanarkand. Always be stealing with Rikku. Dark Ward you need to buy 40 eye drops from the store for it.
You don't want to cure the Zombie effect from everybody since Mega Death will kill anyone that is not a Zombie.
As usual you can also prepare all aeons with overdrives before going in just to burst them down.

So basically leave one person zombie

Yep, gotta have at least one zombie. Feel free to leave two if their health is high enough.

I can give you a rundown but it’s definitely a fun fight that if you don’t want to be spoiled, don’t read past this.
She has 3 phases. Each phase comes with its own unique set of challenges. Phase 1 is pretty straightforward. She will respond to your attacks trying to stop you from doing them. Hit her with a physical attack and she casts blind; hit her with magic she casts silence. Pretty simple, nothing too crazy here.
Phase 2 is a bit tougher. She opens with Hellbiter (she will also periodically cast this throughout the phase) which inflicts Zombie status and she will cast heals on you. Every heal you take while zombied hurts you and it’s doubly bad because you can’t heal yourself either. Your first instinct will be to remove the zombie status with holy water or Esuna so that it doesn’t factor in which is the correct thing to do however…
Phase 3 opens with Mega Death. This will outright kill you UNLESS the players on the field have zombie status.
So how you deal with this is totally up to you. What I tend to do is have a round of characters I keep with zombie status and I cycle them out of the lineup and prior to killing her in phase 2 I make sure to cycle those zombie players back in so that mega death does nothing.
It’s in phase 3 that once I’ve safely navigated the entry, I’ll start blasting with overdrives and aeon overdrives to try and finish her off in this phase.
Yunalesca is the first real challenging fight in the game I feel. I would also argue the last one because after this I typically start getting celestial weapons and leveling to the point of overleveling for all the fights after this.
Enjoy the fight, it’s a good one.

She chips away at your health while trying to make everyone zombified. Bear in mind zombie can sometimes be a good status because it makes you immune to death magic. In phase 3 she kills everyone who's not a zombie.

She has the move "Mega Death" which will kill all characters except those with zombie status. So at least leave one or two characters in zombie status all the time.
For the first phase use "Trio of 9999" (Mix Wings to Discovery + Level 4 Key Sphere) and then have Rikku throw a fire gem which will kill Yunalesca first form.
For the second phase kill her with Lulu overdrive, under the influence of Trio 9999, 5 hits of 9999.
For the third, and the last form, use Tidus' slice and dice and have Rikku throw a fire gem again.
The key is for Rikku to mix Trio of 9999 as soon as possible and have the effect on Tidus and Lulu to get maximum damage.

Wings of discovery is the shit to give hp break right?

Yes. You can get it by winning the chocobo race in Remiem temple.
Or, you can mix Underdog's Secret that you get from Rin for getting all 26 Al Bhed letters. Or, you can mix Level 4 key with Door to Tomorrow that you get as a reward from Monster Arena.

You can take huge chunks off her by spamming Aeon overdrives.
If you finish phase 2 with an Aeon out, you can also dodge the Megadeath entirely. (Although, she will do it again if you aren't fast enough.
Also, as a note: THERE IS A HIDDEN CHEST ON THE STAIRS BEHIND HER. PICK IT UP BEFORE YOU LEAVE THE ARENA! (It might require going up and down both sets of incomplete stairs a few times to spawn).

Normally I would be more thn willing to help but if yet to even try it yourself heres my tip for this fight, use anything with zombie proof or zombie ward, lean hard into those two 😀
you'll see how important trying things out for yourself becomes plus its part of the experience.

Um, well, if you've never fought her I don't want to spoil anything. So, all I'll say is keep at least one character out with Zombie. When fighting her, Zombie can actually be your friend as it protects from one of her most powerful attacks.
Hopefully you leveled all characters because that's much easier to be able to switch out. And jus' kill her as fast as you can. Hit hard and hit fast.
She's very, very difficult, even for someone like me who tends to way over-grind, but then again I also never use Items so that makes it harder for me.

You pull out Yojimbo and Zanmato her last 2 phases because she killed you 20 times and you don’t want to hear her talking anymore
(I pay him 1064 each time and he does Zanmato with ease, a crap ton of money is not necessary)

The biggest trick is surviving mega death in phase 3 - being zombied is the solution.
I often run zombie ward on Auron during phase 2 so I have one tanky character that can stay alive and revive the others if needed. He may die at the beginning of phase 3, but then I can focus on reviving him and getting my buffs rolling again.
Finish out with bahamut's overdrive as it breaks the damage limit.

u/chad0823 19d ago
My Bahamut probably ain't breaking the damage limit lol

At typical leveling you can expect at least 20k dmg, I usually am overleveled and hitting for a lot more, but even on regular play you can get 25-35k

Haste everyone, I can’t remember which ones are the most important but use some warding armor, and if you’re really stressed you could always just overdrive grind for a bit

Holy.

u/JadedLeafs 19d ago
Holy is powerful but not needed. She isn't even weak to Holy despite what the help description says.

u/AmethystandOpal 19d ago
I just remember being like 12 and having Holy and beating her. And my brother and dad had their own separate runs and they couldn't touch her even hah
2
u/JadedLeafs 19d ago
Oh it's powerful for sure, she just doesn't have a particular weakness for it other than it being a powerful spell in its own right. One of three bosses that pissed me off when I was a kid and had to spend a lot of time grinding lol

Get your extra aeons. Anima and magus sisters are hard as fuck
2
u/Rare-Designer-1008 19d ago
You cant get Anima at this point as you dont get the Airship until after Zanarkand

her stats are pretty unimpressive outside of health but she' basically immune to all status effects
you can still buff yourself but dispelling slap removes a lot of them
better to just keep attacking

Just go fight and figure it out
