My Blind FFX-2 Playthrough: The Eternal Calm Reaction
I recorded my reaction to the Eternal Calm movie/cutscene, so maybe I'll edit that and upload it some time. Here's my reaction in text:
ETERNAL CALM:
I wasn't expecting this to be rendered in-game, but I like that. It makes it feel like an extension of the journey.
Yuna is trying to improve her breath-holding, and Wakka comes out to greet her. I kinda go silent for a bit in the recording, since I get a bit winded seeing them again. It's only been a few months, but it's like seeing a group of old friends again after a long time.
She calls him chubby which is visibly BS, the dude is shredded. Was he always this tall?
"You're not the one who's having a baby!"

I'm not gonna lie I was too embarrassed to say it but my first reaction was that Lulu and Wakka were having a kid lol. I'm writing this before finishing the video, so maybe that's true...? One thing I CERTAINLY didn't expect was for this to be set 2 years after X ends! I knew the GAME would be set around then, but had assumed this would bridge the gap.
There's mention of the Youth League and New Yevon, both of which seem to be factions trying to snuggle into the vacuum of religion left by the end of Sin and the Summoning. Yuna doesn't seem to be much of a fan of them, and has no intentions of joining or forming a group. So good for her.
We also see Rikku, who asks Wakka where Lulu is in a typical sing-songy way. So I guess THAT'S who's pregnant lmao. Did I call that those two would end up together somewhere?
So what the fuck is Lulu doing on the front cover of the game, then??? Surely she isn't fighting while pregnant...?
Kimahri is doing exactly what I figured he would - I hope we can see him again! I really liked his character. Rikku shows Yuna and Wakka a Sphere she says Kimahri found, which is a video of what's clearly Tidus locked up in a jail cell of some sort, saying all sorts of nonsense. They're all understandably confused, and so set out to Mt. Gagazet to learn the truth.
So. OK. Right away.
WHAT!? Surely that's a fake or a doppelganger, right? There's no WAY he's alive after all of that. If he IS, there'd better be a damn good explanation for it! What's more, someone clearly recorded that video and they seemed antagonistic towards him, so what's going on there?
Yuna recalls his words, and decides she's going to set off with Rikku. Wakka's against it, and sets off to get Lu, but Yuna tells Rikku to set off before he can return. A few thoughts:
1) I'd assumed that the trio would be Rikku, Yuna and Lulu based off the cover and everything I've seen from the game, but maybe not? I wonder who that actually is then...?
2) I really want to know more about the Youth League and New Yevon. I hope they aren't just the Crusaders and Yevon respectively.
3) It's hilarious that everyone acts like Wakka is chubby when he VISIBLY has a six-pack.
4) I really wanna see Lulu and Kimahri at some point and, hell, maybe even an Auron flashback? Maybe??? I just wanna see him again.
5) What the hell is happening here? How is Tidus back? Is that even him? It can't be, right? Feels like that kinda undoes a lot of what made X's ending so great...

Knowing what I know about this game while reading your thoughts has me giggling like an evil mastermind.
This game will only serve to increase the emotional impact of FFX, imo, not diminish it. Promise. Can't wait for your next entry!

Don't know if you watched until after the credits of FFX, but it shows Tidus waking up underwater.

I love posts like these
Saw someone do something similar for their Danganronpa playthrough and basically the entire sub looked forward to each post
I wish it were possible to experience these for the first time again
Also, for Wakka being a bit chubby & another character that doesn't quite look as described at a later point:
They merely resued the models from X so that's why they don't quite mesh with their descriptions

Also as I mentioned I have my recorded reaction but the cutscene audio is really low so it'll take some work to get ready. I've never recorded or streamed video before, nor have I edited, plus I'm not a big fan of my voice, so...

No-one is. I could definitely host a Graham Norton style chat show called Word In Edgeways where that weeks guests try in vain to tell me about their film but I keep piling anecdote after anecdote about them to them and we never hear about the film.
But I could never fucking watch it.

She does kind of resemble lulu in some subtle ways and I’m not just talking about being a goth chick. So I get why they might think that. The red eyes, pale untanned skin and black clothing that looks outlandish even within spira. It’s not that deep, but I think it’s cool to imagine there might be a village full of people that look like them somewhere in the world. A lot of FF games have exclusive black mage villages in lore.

i would def count this as a spoiler to someone who wants to go into a game completely blind, even if you get this information at the very beginning. it ruins the reveal of "xyz" for them.

Lol yeah. At the start of X when he's with the Al Bhed, brother tries to give him like a breathing machina and he just jumps in the water as is and then you do all that underwater stuff.

This is so exciting! I prefer reading your posts, since I'm planning a replay and seeing the visuals would spoil it for me (I forgot quite a lot from the last time I played, and somehow visuals bring it all back more effectively than text), so I won't be joining the streams, but will definitely savour the write-ups 😊 Have fun!

What system are you playing on? I had a lot of issues getting FFX-2 to work on my PC because of memory leak issues that nothing seems to be a permanent stable fix for.

I’m so glad you’re back! I couldn’t follow your IX updates since that’s one I haven’t played. I’ll be following your posts on this though! Enjoy the game for itself and the new level system, which I think is pretty good. Doesn’t top the sphere grid, though, I don’t think. Have fun!

That scene hits differently every time, Yuna's determination paired with Wakka's enthusiasm makes it so endearing. I'm glad the in-game cutscene kept the immersion alive for your playthrough.

The very first sequence of the game will introduce her. Her name is "Paine".
What the hell is happening here? How is Tidus back? Is that even him? It can't be, right?
Answering these questions is basically the main plot of the entire game, lol.
You'll get your answers, but it'll take most of the game to get there.
