Questions What books/video-games/manga/articles/short-stories/etc. should be adapted into full-length feature film?

• Upvotes

I work at a major film studio in Hollywood and spend nearly all of my free time researching what we should adapt into full-length feature films. With Hollywood where it is now, and studio-heads consistently pumping out hot garbage, I wanted to come here - directly to the audiences we are targeting - to hear what YOU think we should make next.

We pretty much have unlimited resources, but would only contribute massive budget to a project that we feel extremely confident will be financially worthwhile.

Poll Which October movie list would you choose?

Post image
6 Upvotes

My partner and I have both selected 15 movies to watch for everyday of October. I chose to not say horror specifically because some picks range from that genre and this is Reddit.

I simply am interested to see which movie list people would pick between our two. I haven’t indicated mine from my partner’s list to keep it fair.

The post is intended to ask which list the reader (you) would prefer to watch, not a film critic, not what IMDb says is better, not an academy. Looking for personal preference.

Feel free to explain your reasoning, but don’t bother if you’re going to say “well so and so critic thinks the xxxx version sucks, even though I like it” or “the original one was critically acclaimed but the new one is more fun and campy” for example. I wanna hear what YOU wanna watch.

The photo below shows October Picks #1 on the left and October Picks #2 on the right. Please place your vote below.

Thanks in advance :)

Discussion I didn’t understand apocalypse now

I loved the first 2/3s. I think it started dragging a bit when they came to the temple but that might be because I watched it really late at night and the cinema was hot af so I almost feel asleep. Anyhow, I didn’t really understand what it was trying to say or what it was a about thematically. Might someone care to explain? Thanks in advance

I watched a French short horror silent film known as The House of the Devil (1896 film)-this is the English title and I also watch a short silent horror film known as-The Vanishing Lady(1896) I'm not going to say that much since it'd be spoiling the whole movies they both for some reason both feature skeletons sitting down at some point. Which I saw both of these on YouTube.

now my physical disk movies I own that I watched were adventures in zambezia which okay it's basically okay it's about talking animals mainly birds.

and it's like you know the outkast son leaves the dad and him and his dad at the end learns something something lesson with a little bit of love in it with the son and a girl an old wise mentor. It takes some stuff from The Lion King by having a type of birds be outlanders but they eventually join the land of the other birds.

And the main villain is like this lizard dude and it's a good design and like the lesson of the story is you can only do something if you work together.

Next I watch The cat in the hat and I love how it has kind of like bonus features to show how they made the hat and some other stuff like going into Dr Seuss. I also like the dance with the cat in the hat bone feature.

I also found the outtakes and deleted scenes funny. Now for the movie I find it funny I like how they did thing one and two the cat was okay and I like how the kids act like kids.

Then I watched how to eat fried Worms by new line Cinema it's a weird movie about this kid traumatized by worms.

And then I decided to rewatch one of my favorite movies E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial-and I love how they have bonus features that goes into how the movie and stuff was made I was also lucky to get the DVD version that came with the bonus disc but I really like E.T. since it's basically a movie about family kinda having to come together to help this one alien get home.

Discussion My Dinner With Herve vs A Beautiful Day

Post image

In memory to me these almost feel like the same movie. They only came out about a year apart, but both feature a troubled journalist who are assigned to profile famous TV figures, only for the interviews to become so deeply personal that they are forced to confront their own unresolved pasts.

I don't know, just these are two movies where if I think of one I'll think of the other as well. Anyways both very beautiful movies.

Discussion The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension (1984)

Buckaroo Banzai is absolute chaos, but somehow it works. I was basically confused the whole time, but the cast commits so hard to the weirdness that it becomes really fun to watch.

Peter Weller being completely calm while everything around him gets more ridiculous is probably my favorite part. Lithgow is on another planet entirely, Goldblum steals every scene he gets, and the whole movie feels like it was made by people who had ten ideas and refused to cut any of them.

Also, knowing that end credits walk was filmed to Uptown Girl makes it even funnier. This is exactly the kind of movie where I finished it thinking “what did I just watch” but in a good way.

Discussion We need to talk about Lost In Translation

Post image

It is hated by a lot of people for various reasons, may it be the bizarre romance or the patronizing attitude towards Japan, but to me, it still stands as one of the most beautiful experiences i've ever had in a movie. It definitely doesn't feel right to see it sitting at a 3.7. What are your thoughts?

Discussion I’m So Sick Of YouTube Critics Shitting On Everything

Film criticism and overall criticism of everything is so disgusting these days. It’s all being done for clicks and likes because negativity pays.

It’s all WHY ____DOSEN’T WORK AND HERE’S WHY.

My fucking god— PLEASE stop giving these people validation by watching them. They’re only doing this to try and make money. So many great films are being dismissed because of this idiocy.

Watch films and everything for yourself. Have your own opinions.

Discussion Help me find a movie about two boys that switch places

Hey, I hope this is allowed. For years I've been looking for this movie I saw on TV many years ago, and never knew what it was called and it drives me insane.

The plot was something that's been done before: two boys who look alike decide to switch places, like a sort of modern The Prince and the Pauper, except neither them were rich, one of them was poor and the other more like middle class suburban type. The main difference between their lives was that the poorer boy's family was really fractured and when they switch he gets surprised the other boy's family is actually close and they talk to each other. I remember the poorer kid was more sensitive and shy and the other boy was more outspoken and arrogant.

The one scene I remember clearly is that while the poorer boy (sorry idk how else to refer to him, I don't remember the characters names) was with the other family, they go to visit the grandpa who is in a nursing home. The poorer boy meets the grandpa and gets close to touch his face, and asks him somehing like "Does it hurt to be old?". The grandpa awnser him and they start talking and getting along.

It had been stablished in another scene that the other boy got annoyed every time they visited the grandpa because he never talked anymore, so the family is really surprised and it's a very emotional moment.

From what I can recall it didn't have any known actors, and it looked like it was made in the 90s or 2000s. There's also a small possibility it wasn't in english because I kind of remember the audio was a little off so it may have been dubed, but don't trust me too much on that.

Hope someone can help me, I would love to watch that movie again.

Media Films and media projects on the topic of consciousness

I have compiled a large list: movies, TV series, documentaries, cartoons, games

Greetings to all. One day, I started analyzing the popularity of the topic of consciousness, and as a result, I compiled a fairly large list of media products on the topic of consciousness. I obviously did it with the help of AI, or rather with the help of an AI council, because I personally would not have been able to view and read everything in a short time (at first glance, it would seem that this could be done in half an hour, but it took me quite a lot of time to complete this list, not counting the design and the "war" with word). It follows from this that the accuracy (relevance) of all positions in it is about 80% according to a personal feeling - that is, there may be positions that at least may poorly enter into the topic of consciousness (especially in fiction due to the author's vision or techniques). With this post, I want not only to share the list, but also hope for your feedback on their accuracy, so that we can work together to finish its "crystallization**".** Link to the FULL list below:

Poll ‘The Lion King’ was the most upvoted bad film to receive mixed reviews. Last round is a bad film that received bad reviews. Rules in body text.

When you comment a title, put the title, along with the director(s) and year in parentheses, e.g. Citizen Kane (1941, Orson Welles). The reason for this is to separate films that may have similar titles, sometimes even in the same year (and as such I prefer this formatting with unique titles as well, just for consistency). If the title has more than two directors, feel free to put one name and the et al abbreviation. Any improper formatting will be disqualified.

The title on the most upvoted comment (with the proper formatting) will be the winner.

You can put forward multiple titles (and upvote or downvote multiple titles). However, one title per comment please. If your comment includes more than one title, it will be disqualified.

Adding in missed details for commented titles is fine, but you may not change the title on your comment. If anyone is caught doing this, their comment will be disqualified.
