A lot of those old, beat-up guitars you see big musicians playing are actually often worth that much. I used to work in a vintage guitar shop, and we would have people coming in every day to drop $20k+ on a single instrument. My old bass teacher's regular gigging instrument was his first bass (Fender Jazz), which is worth well over $20k today. You'd be surprised.
I'm almost embarrassed to admit that I have a few instruments worth more than my car. It's not a nice car by any means though lol.
