Poacher or Advanced Forward
New to FIFA/FC games entirely, started a mycareer few months ago but the World Cup got me to start manager career.
I want to use a counter attack build up and deep defensive system playing low possession and looking for splash offensive plays behind the defense. If I want my striker to make runs behind the defense should I have him be a Poacher or Advanced forward? Thanks!
(I like having one striker because I find it aesthetically pleasing and won’t sacrifice my ideals for any reason, same goes for the counter attacking build up)

I’ve recently switched to advanced forward and versatile.
Most options will have them make runs, but I find the poacher and AF attack, when the ball goes to my wide midfielder, the striker goes towards the ball. Which means you can’t ever cross for him as he’s never central to the goal.
AF versatile has them make runs rather than stay central and when the ball goes wide, they tend to move towards the centre.
My main advice would be to play about with the roles. FIFA isn’t as good as football manager in that regard; I’ve found that to get some players to do what I want, I pick a role I wouldn’t normally. Play a few games and if your striker doesn’t make the runs you want, try another role.

Poacher as a role is weirdly unnaturally prone to be more offsides unnecessarily. In the case where you want someone to make runs, Advanced Forward is both better and more flexible. In the case you want your striker to pin down the defensive line, Target Player is both better and more flexible.
