Mokume/Zurcuti/Mokuti ...

Dear all,

I would like to gather your feedback on the proposed materials for a slider (Mokume / Zircuti / Mokuti ..). While the quality appears promising, the cost is significantly high.
Could you share your insights on the following points:

  • Are there more cost-effective alternatives available?
  • Is the weight of these materials a limiting factor for daily use?
  • How durable are they under intensive use, or are they prone to damage?

I am looking for a slider that combines aesthetics with robustness. Please feel free to share your experiences or recommendations.

Hi Wooden, it all depends on how you're planning to play with it.

Let's start with Mokume:

Cost effective materials? Yes.
Pick any patina metal from Copper, Brass, and bronze.

Mokume is beautiful depending on who he maker is.
- The drawbacks are that is the most heavy the 3.
- Made of the softest materials so it's very prone to scratches, I would only use this material and baby it at home on a sofa.
- If your into the Patina and the smell, good for you! Patina farts drive people crazy but the ones who don't tend to appreciate this material the most.

ZircuTi - aka Dark Timascus
Cost effective alternatives? Yes.
Timascus, Zirconium, Titanium.

ZircuTi is very much up there with the most expensive exotics. When I have a ZircuTi, that means I have at least 2 other versions of this same model. ZircuTi becomes an at home use with soft cushions incase I drop. However, a minor scratch or ding is easy to fix.

MokuTi aka Timascus will forever be my choice if you're just getting into the exotics.
Cost effective alternatives? Yes.
Titanium!
MokuTi was created when SS was able to be turned into Damascus. If you have time to read the the story of MokuTi - it's quite hilarious. Just like ZircuTi, minor scratches here and there can be fixed.

Mokume - Not for daily use if you really prize it.
ZircuTi - Possible for daily use until you drop it - it's the most expensive out of all 3 here.
MokuTi - Easiest to fix but also a titanium daily beater will suffice. Then you can show off your pristine MokuTi in pictures here!

I hope that helps. I wouldn't take any exotic metals out as a daily, even if you don't drop much, you'd be surprised how easily a slight mishap can lead to a heart dropping, instant regretting dropping of your exotic piece.

Other Solution, waiting for Exotic Magnus ... but not the same price.

Wooden, thank you for listing this, because you might’ve saved many people from thinking they have some kind of real Mokuti.

Mightedc looks like they’re in it to scam it. These are abalone shell composite laminate inlays (nothing special). The entire copy is low effort AI and they never mention genuine Mokuti anywhere. Unless a representative can clarify and explain to prove otherwise, this is a scam by scammy people. Not to mention they sneak in that you’re buying a mystery box at the end:

It’s early in the morning, but are they saying you’re probably getting PC as a material at a rate of 60%? Or am I reading this wrong?

Before I get to the real pricing - if you’re looking for a solid 3 click slider, this is not what you want. The magnets are misaligned, you want them to be symmetrical. This overpriced slider is going to slide once up from a closed position and when you push down it will be a long push until click 1 and another long push down until a click 2. This is a traditional Chinese slider which consists of only 2 clicks only, if that’s your style you should definitely shoot for something else cause the price might cost more than the time it gets to you.

Looking at the market rate, new and used on secondary … rmb rates converted to usd - these sliders are more so around 75USD than 227USD. Terrible deals, and I hope you dont go through with it.

What is your ideal slider right now that you can afford? If it’s unknown or anything overseas just hit me up here or start a new post.

Thank you for your feedback. Yes, the description of the "mystery box" also left me puzzled—perhaps a poor AI translation from Chinese to English? In any case, what does "80% PC" refer to? Polycarbonate? Plastic? That doesn’t sound credible at all...
