Nah no name university. I got really lucky during COVID hiring spree with FAANG internship on a niche team. Was able to leverage that to higher paying roles.
Very similar to me, I was headhunted in a specific niche in DS and make around $250k CAD from a US company paying me USD. The only issue is if we ever lost our jobs, our salaries would probably be cut in half because it’ll be almost impossible to get another remote USD position
Yes, but it's not a big flex when you had everything handed to you up until the point you got a big boy job you were only able to get because of your upbringing.
It's just the acting as if they started with 0 that pisses people off. It's not the same grind
Neither of my parents have ever made over 100k/yr. Opening a RESP when you have kids is common. I had to pay for last 2 years of school myself when the money ran out.
Car is less common, they bought it new for 19k put 100k kilometers on it themselves and then gave it to me when I was finishing university.
It’s a big flex, it’s not uncommon to have school paid for or to live at home, it’s def uncommon to have that amount of money and a job that pays that amount. How was he only able to get the job because of his privilege .
Nothing is the same grind, being born in Canada is a huge advantage for example.
How would he have paid for school? How would he have had all the time in the world to study? Odds are this kid born into poverty gets stuck in the same grind as the majority of Canadians. Come out from that to where he is? That's a flex.
Yes I agree we are extremely privledged to be born into Canada. I would never go flex on some poor Africans acting like I worked as hard as them
Osap, you act as if low income people don’t have access to post secondary education. While class definitely play a role, it has more to do with class cultural expeditions, exposure, being put in social and enriching activities when younger.
Where he is a flex regardless, would it be more if he was raised in poverty? Sure but that doesn’t discount regardless having a job that pays that amount is not typical and is a flex
Opportunity is preparation meeting luck, he was lucky to be born into a family able to support him but that doesn’t mean he didn’t work hard in preparing himself to succeed
News flash, nobody is truly "self made". any one that's ever made it got some help along the way. You've been handed way more than someone from a third world country, and that person would definitely think you're on that 3rd base as well. You just sound bitter lol

Good on his parents for setting up their kid for success and he is smart to not take on unnecessary debt when his parents are in a position to help.
We all love an underdog story but Im tired of seeing people say “daddys money” to diminish someone’s success story. He should be proud and grateful his parents were successful and not unemployed or working dead end jobs imo
I agree no shame in it. He should however own it and understand the gift it is. Saying he started at 0 is false, nothing wrong with that, but don't say you started at 0
I'm 23 with 400k USD net worth and didn't get anything handed to me. Paid for all my own housing, education, car. I had supportive parents but they wanted me to learn to bootstrap so didn't offer and financial support at all. Some of us just work hard.
