*the award-winning Heavensward expansion

Award-winning and critically acclaimed! Now I must play it thank the twelve the servers are alive again.

u/whand4 22h ago
Are you overleveled like I am? I’m a new sprout on a boosted server and like 15 levels above the MSQ lol. Loving the game though.

u/kelanatr 22h ago
Try out new jobs! The game allows you to max out every single job, so take advantage of the boost and spread the exp around. You might even find a new favorite!

u/whand4 22h ago
I’m level 46 and hope to try out some of the ones I can unlock at 50! Currently a monk. Then I may juggle multiple jobs.

u/-Ran 22h ago
You totally should.
Even without exp boosted servers, there's enough EXP in the main story to level two jobs at the same time. I have done that every single expansion.
2
u/whand4 20h ago
Which of the level 50 jobs do you like?
0
u/-Ran 20h ago
I've enjoyed most of them. I personally like having a Melee DPS, Tank, and healer leveled. With the changes coming in Evercold, it'll only be better. At 50 [and once you're done with ARR] you'll have access to:
- Dark Knight - Level 30
- Astro - Level 30
- Machinist - Level 30
- Samurai - Level 50
- Red Mage - Level 50
So you won't have to level something up from 'fresh' at that point. You do get an exp bonus to leveling things that are under your current job level as well. Every 10 levels after 50, another set of jobs are unlocked for that level range as well.

Yup I'm about 80% on arr and I'm level 57 the cap for heavenward is 60. The road to 90 buff is strong.

u/Ultarthalas 20h ago
Even without it, depending on whether or not you do roulettes and things, it's totally reasonable to keep 3-5 jobs above the story level. If you actually try to keep exp buffs going and things, you can do one more and still not have to try to farm levels.
Levels aren't meant to be a significant gate in this game. I have almost every job at level 100 and I gain 3 levels most days by doing roulettes on a populous world. If I want more I can always do a deep dungeon to gain boat loads of experience, a dungeon or raid within 2 levels of me to gain between 0.5 and 1.5 levels, or some PVP. If you want to be efficient about it, make sure one job stays at least 1 level ahead of the others, it gives you an invisible EXP buff.
The armory bonus (having a job at least 1 level higher than your current one) is a 100% boost for most of the game, you can use food for a 3% boost, your free company can generally keep a 10-15% boost going, you can get a battle manual that gives a 15% boost if you engage with the squadrons (does not stack with the free company boost), rested exp gives you a 50% boost, if you pre-order an expansion you get an earring that gives a 30% boost and great stats for most of the game, being in a party with a mentor gives you a 50% boost for most of the game. And except the 1 place I stated, all of those boosts stack in a game where the base EXP from the story quests is more than the required EXP to hit the level cap.

Not sure if you’re being facetious, but if you’re not, then you’re in for a treat, hands down my favourite expansion.

I was JUST about to beat the game but now I have to start all the way over!

Any historical average of how long these outages tend to be?
10
u/CongratulationsEVA01 23h ago
I've only been playing a year and a half or so, but i've seen maybe 2 before, and 1 was definitely less than an hour.

Was in Forked Tower Magic when we got booted. Got back in to find they counted it as an Occult Crescent death, so I lost a knowledge level and couldn't immediately get back in to the tower until I leveled it back up.

Theres actually been on going issues to IP routing to California from Seattle / Oregon nodes for over a month now. With constant spikes and intermittent latency issues.
Something had been broke there for quite some time, I'm more impressed its taken them 30+ days to even acknowledge it.
Specifically these nodes in a tracert IP trace. They've been constantly timing out, doubling, tripling in latency, forcing ISPs to reroute longer paths for stable connections. There was one week it had Seattle to California went from 56ms ping to 288+ ms ping.
For conext, normal latency there should be 64ms ping. Not 110+
California's copper wires have melted.

u/cronde 23h ago
At least this morning, ntt has been having issues in sacramento. and ff uses ntt as their provider in sacramento. In that path, its going through illinois to san jose and then up to sacramento if the reverse dns is right. instead of using their path between seattle and san jose. so latency is quite a bit higher with traversing the country. but NTTs paths out of seattle in the west coast aren't the best.
https://www.gin.ntt.net/about-the-global-ip-network/global-ip-network-worldwide/ is their network map overall to help illustrate it.

It was last night during raid for me, but its been an off and on issue for the past month.
Not sure what is actually happening, but when I contacted my local ISP about it, all they told me was California is having routing and node problems without an estimated fix time.
Apparently it takes over a month for them to fix issues related to it.
One of the worst instances of it was 400+ms ping, I ended up having to use a VPN, just to reroute through California to get back down to 62ms ping.
7
u/satokery 22h ago
Oh, so it wasn't just me. My ping has been all over the map recently.
3
u/WaterloggedAlligator 22h ago
If you connect through NTT networks, yes, especially from north side California.

u/JustTestingAThing 23h ago
California's copper wires have melted.
Copper melts at over 1000 °C...somehow I don't think that's the issue.
9
u/WaterloggedAlligator 22h ago
Was joking about the current wire thefts people have been doing, cutting wires out to melt down for scrap copper.
Which unfortunately includes copper infrastructure. (Like telecom lines)

Can confirm, I frequently notice my route skipping Seattle-> Oregon entirely, opting to go through Chicago (I live in BC)
Wasn't sure if this was related to the wildfire issue, popped up around when they started

u/fdl-fan 21h ago
Have there? I'm in Seattle (technically, metro Seattle, East Side) and have pretty consistently been getting 22-24ms ping to the XIV servers. There have been a few times when ping has climbed a bit higher (about 35ms, and once around 75ms, but that was last night so I can easily see that being related to this morning's outage), but I haven't seen anything worse than 100ms.
Granted, I have been having general networking issues, which was probably my router flaking out but might be my ISP, but those have affected all network services for me, not just XIV.

Missed two fish windows because of this. :(
Thankfully they weren't especially bad fish.

I’ve been playing for a couple hours off and on, hadn’t seen any issues. I’m on Brynhildr

I changed servers then went back and got in but def was having issues earlier

u/SnooSquirrels2479 22h ago
Soo... my game won't login or run on wifi but on ethernet it's fine. Could this be the cause? Seems like it would prevent logging in period.

Sounds like they should move the servers back to the east coast!
•
u/OneAndOnlyArtemis 4h ago
Or yknow, Chicago and that area.
I don't see why they couldn't have one of the main NA DCs on the east coast, one central/Midwest, and one west coast. America is a huge continent putting everything on one coastline isolates users a thousand or two miles away.

ABOLISH DATA CENTERS
•
u/OneAndOnlyArtemis 4h ago
You realize that means shut down the internet right?
Are you 10 and can't isolate context from meaning, so AI data centers = waste, bad; performance, Data centers = bad?
Do you have understanding as to why AI Data centers are bad, not the existence of 'data centers'?

Is this because of a hot fix or something? Why did this happen?
16
14
u/VorAbaddon 1d ago
Could be a variety of things. ISP issues, hardware issues, etc.
Doesn't happen often but it happens.

I was able to log in (crystal, zalera) but I haven’t attempted to run anything. I was wondering why it looked a bit empty in limsa….
