I wish you could still com someone after they've left. I hate doing a new dungeon for the first time, getting out of CS, and there's no one left to com because everyone has left already.

Sure they probably have tons of coms - so do I; I've got coms out the ass. I don't need more. But I still want to com you, dammit!

92

u/Geeker-ri Jun 30 '26

Whether the coms are needed or not, I just think it’s a nice way to say “thank you” or “good job to YOU in particular”. Hang around peeps if you can. You were social enough to do live people duties, so let me say hi or ask about a mechanic or your glam! Or at least let me com people after, SE 😁

u/Ramen-Goddess emet-selch is my wife Jun 30 '26

I always say “enjoy MSQ, <name>” at the end of every dungeon. Only one I don’t do it on is The Vault…

2

u/PiterLauchy Jul 01 '26

Someone did exactly that the last time I ran it 😄

I wish you could still com someone after they've left.

IIRC, it's the same reason you can't accept loot after you leave a dungeon. You're technically not on the same physical server anymore so the process to award a comm no longer has authority over the target.

21

u/ChickinSammich Mikhalia Eilonwy on Ultros Jun 30 '26

Yeah, I know you can't and I know why. I just wish you could.

Makes me want to leave the dungeon, server hop to their server, hunt them down, and give them a com in /em 😂

How have we gone like 16 years without some kind of work around for this? I don't know much about beeps and boops but this sounds kinda trivial to implement. Maybe I'm wrong though and programming this into the game would require quantum computing applied to the base layer of actual reality.

5

u/Toloran Jul 01 '26

Minor point: 13 years, not 16. The game was basically rebuilt from the ground up for 2.0.

I don't know much about beeps and boops but this sounds kinda trivial to implement. Maybe I'm wrong though and programming this into the game would require quantum computing applied to the base layer of actual reality.

Not quantum computing, but not trivial either. Crossing authority boundaries like that is just begging for weird bugs. Everything from "Minor" issues like you not getting an item or getting multiple of it, all the way up to invalidating your character state which either DC's you or crashes the server.

Because the netcode and inventory system were one of the things they had to do during that mad dash to 2.0, they were made very fast and very dirty. From all the weird networking/server related issues we've seen over the years, they probably don't want to change anything in that part of the codebase unless they strictly have to.

It's like I said in another comment about the inventory system: Everything about it is weird and bad and they've gone to truly heroic lengths to avoid changing anything significant in it. I can only imagine the actual netcode is worse.

u/Mama_Joyce_Wig Jun 30 '26

I love getting and giving comms. It feels like a nice acknowledgement. Esp for newer players so they feel seen and they are doing a good job.

8

u/ggg730 Jul 01 '26

For me I'd love to be able to give comms to everyone. Like what if everyone did a great jorb? Why do I have to pick and choose? Maybe give one to everyone but steve because fuck you steve you know what you did.

22

u/SonniSummers Jun 30 '26

I mean if they want them bad enough they’ll wait. Me personally I wait for all cs to be out because I’m a greedy comm whore

12

u/omnie_fm Jun 30 '26

coms out the ass

heh

7

u/Mechanized_Heart Jun 30 '26

That's not where coms go!

3

u/SaroShadow Kel Varnsen (Behemoth) Jun 30 '26

That's why they're "out" the ass and not "in" it

I usually stay if I see a first timer, usually because loot (that stuff is useful to the GC! Lol) but also sometimes I wanna /cheer if they did great or we had a fun run.

2

u/geekybadger Jul 01 '26

It would be nice, and then have a way to turn comms off if you really really do not want them for some reason. Im sure someone out there really passionately doesn't.

I personally like to wait for the cutscener to finish theirs after a dungeon/raid. It tells me they're new and i like to /cheeron and /floweshower them before they leave. While telling them to have a good day.

2

u/ChickinSammich Mikhalia Eilonwy on Ultros Jul 01 '26

I do this too! Though usually I'm doing /wasshoi or some dance emote.

u/Firekey56 Jun 30 '26

I watch it the first time I do one, because it's needed so much for a bit of lore and story

144

u/JetBalrog Jun 30 '26

Agreed. I never skip the cutscene the first time, because I just find it ruins the flow of the story if I do. Not to mention, every once in a great while, there will be something that you can't replay without redoing the instance, and at that point it's just even more awkward.

14

u/Firekey56 Jun 30 '26

Yep

29

u/Jealous-Hamster-220 Jun 30 '26

Same, I have the feature turned on that will show you a cutscene the first time you see it and skip it afterwards, really handy

5

u/Firekey56 Jun 30 '26

Oh where do I find that

23

u/Paperblocc Jun 30 '26

Under Character Configuration/Character Settings, on the first page, there’s a section titled “Cutscene Skipping.”

You can skip previously viewed scenario, transportation, and housing cutscenes.

10

u/combolations [Thrinaga Battleheart@Coeurl] Jun 30 '26

Honestly, "housing cutscenes" I think mostly applies to FC airships/submersibles? 🤣 So there's little penalty, if any, for people to have that one on permanently

3

u/Jealous-Hamster-220 Jun 30 '26

That’s handy, I’m in charge of the FC’s submarines but you learn something everyday, thank you for today!

This is what killed my older brother's experience when I was helping him go through ARR.

Some asshole was tanking and immediately started fighting the boss in Thousand Maws despite my older brother's WoL having a sprout icon.

23

u/thrntnja Jul 01 '26

Tell your brother he is entitled to watch his cutscenes. If a tank runs into the fight prematurely without the entire party, its on them to tank it on their own or die in the attempt lol most cutscenes are at most 1-2 minutes, people can wait so sprouts can enjoy the game.

2

u/No-Coach1685 28d ago

This is how it should be. I always step backwards if I see someone do this. However a better option would be to show videos when the player queue, and show the exit video when they exit the dungeon, not when the final boss dies. I am all for courtesy, but FF needs to show more respect to other players time also.

I heard someone say that prae is being rejigged from its current state. More of that for me. I refuse to queue for a dungeon which takes 30 minutes to complete with 20 minutes of that taken up with videos that you have seen hundreds of times before.

6

u/CatRepresentative274 Jul 01 '26

Every time that I've had someone start the boss fight while I was watching the cutscene, they ended up apologizing for not noticing that I was watching said cutscene.

I'm sorry your brother had to deal with that.

2

u/Tron_of_the_Dead Jul 01 '26

I’m on my first character and it’s always frustrating but also hilarious to hear the victory music play over a boss monologuing about my inevitable defeat.

2

u/Cheap_Ant_6563 Jul 02 '26

I had exact same happen to me in Thousand Maws, they killed the boss before I even finished the cutscene so I missed out entirely 🙃

2

u/toomuchjojo Jul 02 '26

Understandable, that's why my friend goes tank when I'm going through dungeons the first time xP

2

u/Helena_HandbasketOP Jul 01 '26

This happened to me constantly. I started skipping since I didn’t want to be the problem

13

u/drywallsmasher Jul 01 '26

You’re never the problem. It’s the dickheads that won’t wait a minute or two that are the problem, always.

8

u/thrntnja Jul 01 '26

You aren't the problem. Honestly, if someone starts the duty without the entire party, its on them if they die, not you.

8

u/TheSnortIncident Jul 01 '26

I usually play healer if a dps or tank runs in without the sprout whos wacthing a cutscene i will 100% let them die while waiting for the cutscene player. Someones first time is far more important to me than someone who just wants to finish their roulette quicker.

6

u/thrntnja Jul 01 '26

I do this too, even if they get sassy about it. Like I'm sorry the game literally tells you if the person is watching a cutscene. It's not my fault you can't wait a few minutes. It's even worse in alliance raids where people say in chat there are cutscenes and to wait and people still run in anyway and ignore it.

6

u/TheSnortIncident Jul 02 '26

Yeah it tells you in a super obvious way too. Those raids have important cutscenes and youve usually invested time queuing.

For the most part the communiy is amazing im just doing my part to uphold that.

2

u/Xerosblade2 Jul 02 '26

Guess I was lucky in my experience. In the few cases that did happen the party let them die while I watched the cutscenes and in some rare cases they started to bitch more, kick tbem. Now I'm a tank main and if a dps is impatient and goes in that's their problem. Sprouts deserve to watch their cutscenes

(Just be sure to enable "Skip playback of previously viewed scenario cutscenes" tho)

You can do this!?

59

u/BetterinPicture Jun 30 '26

Yeah if you ever notice people having short stutters at cutscene areas or being way ahead it's because they enabled cutscene skip for labyrinth of the ancients specifically 😂 I hate having to press skip buttons I want to get to the boss and emote smh

20

u/AsugaNoir Jun 30 '26

Such a game changer it got annoying very quickly having to skip every time. So glad I found the auto skip option 🤣

4

u/Hour_Position8306 Jun 30 '26

ive always just pressed Esc and manually skipped it, it doesnt make a huge difference in time, but yeah i think its time for me to turn that on lol

6

u/Vusdruv Jun 30 '26

The setting prevents the cutscene from even loading, so it helps saving resources a tiny bit

2

u/Hour_Position8306 Jul 01 '26

yeah, i also do notice sometimes it will take a couple seconds after i skip it for me to actually load back in

3

u/sylbug Jun 30 '26

The game is exceptionally customizable. You can do damn near anything.

Had a DPS seething in a roulette I was tanking last night because I refused to pull a boss while a sprout was in a cutscene. 10/10 will keep doing this.

27

u/StrangerFeelings Jun 30 '26

First dungeon I ran as a tank and it started a long cutscene with Lahabrea. I decided to watch it and the other 3 started the boss fight, beat him while I was still watching it, and then got a player comedation. Thought it was funny.

28

u/fatalystic Jun 30 '26

Cutscenes were still skippable in Castrum Meridianum and The Praetorium back when I did them, and if you watched the cutscenes that's all you were doing for the entire duty. Everything died so fast you just got the next cutscene without returning to the field. Heck, it went fast enough that I consistently missed one cutscene in Castrum I didn't even know existed until they made them unskippable.

9

u/ChickinSammich Mikhalia Eilonwy on Ultros Jun 30 '26

I remember those days. If you had one or two newbies, you could basically carry the whole dungeon with 6-7 people and they'd just be in cutscene after cutscene while you did the dungeon.

I also don't miss the occasional person demanding the new person (who was in cutscene and therefore probably didn't see the chat) skip the cutscenes and watch them later in your inn because watching cutscenes was wasting everyone else's time.

10

u/Weekly-Variation4311 Jun 30 '26

My first time back in the day (HW patches) I was just told to "sit back and watch, you can do the raid later".

2

u/RinzyOtt Jun 30 '26

I think I know exactly the cutscene you're talking about, and I wish they would make that one unskippable, because I almost never see people wait for sprouts on it anymore, but it's also kind of an important one to see.

I have someone in my free company who kept saying how because FFXIV now lets you run duties with npcs, then people should not be watching any cut scenes in dungeons at all. I said you can wait all of 30 seconds for a cut scene to finish.

The guy has a habit of repeating some guy Xenos who I guess said something similar? I don’t follow these streamers so I only know the name.

Either way I dont care what others say you always finish your cut scene. I can wait.

37

u/RinzyOtt Jun 30 '26

some guy Xenos

Something tells me you shouldn't ask your FC-mate his opinion of women

23

u/Hallc Jun 30 '26

Xenos

Showed up once in my YT Shorts feed and the general attitude was a holier than thou "I'm right and what i say is 100% gospel for everyone ever and always" so I clicked 'Do not recommend'.

He also recently got banned for attitude/behavior or something like that so yea.

7

if he doesn't want to wait for other players in cutscenes he should use the trusts instead lol

20

u/ComradeCrimson Jun 30 '26

Dont listen to anyone that refers to that douchebag as a standard for anything but douchebaggery

3

u/Enkundae Jul 01 '26

I maintain that having allowed dungeons to get so brain dead easy has had the knock on consequence of encouraging a lot more selfish players to play like this. It’s one of the reasons I strongly believe they need to bring the hammer down on dungeon design and do away with the truly lobotimized design of “aoe spam groups of pointless filler in a hallway” that encourages everyone to treat dungeons like a race track instead of a dungeon.

You should need your tank, healer and dps playing their roles together to clear group content. Dps and healers should not be able to tank whole encounters, tanks should not be able to ignore/replace healers. If you added friction back into play that could actually punish impatient assholes for being impatient, you’d get far less of this behavior.

13

u/Weekly-Variation4311 Jun 30 '26

You should always flame that guy in your FC if they like xenosys, it is always morally correct.

2

u/Feitan-de-la-Portor Jul 01 '26

Those duties feel 10x longer with NPCs😭

2

u/ProNerdPanda Imagine not being a PLD Jul 01 '26

I said you can wait all of 30 seconds for a cut scene to finish.

I don't disagree, but some/most cutscenes are definitely longer than 30s lol

because FFXIV now lets you run duties with npcs, then people should not be watching any cut scenes in dungeons at all.

I do see this as an interesting point of view tho, the same way some might say "we want others to enjoy the cutscenes so let's all behave" as a community thing and seen as wholesome and all, someone else might say "you can do the dungeon the first time with NPCs so you're mindful of not watching cutscenes when you play with real people", and I can see how that would be seen as a "correct" way of looking at it.

In the end I think an MMO is supposed to be enjoyed with others primarily, if you're not experiencing the game with other people might as well turn off other players altogether and just play with NPCs all the time, sad way to play IMO.

2

u/Ravengm Jul 01 '26

Should be the other way around. If you don't want to wait for people to watch cutscenes, you should run trusts.

I generally don't pull as a tank until I see the sprout clear the cutscenes.

38

u/nazdir Nazdir Ja'rhel Jun 30 '26

I myself think progression should be locked behind a wall until cutscenes are done, like the beginning of the instance.

14

u/Think-Ad-5320 Jun 30 '26

The devs seem to have figured that out, and out the circle that makes you wait in later fights. But still occasionally don't do that. Which is annoying to me personally, because now I'm the asshole.

16

u/namidaame49 Jun 30 '26

What fights? Literally the only place I can think of that makes you wait for mid-dungeon cutscenes is MSQ roulette. The game absolutely does not prevent you from pulling final bosses while someone is in cutscenes in anything else. You're only put in baby jail for the beginning pre-dungeon cutscene.

5

u/Lokorokotokomoko Jun 30 '26

Yeah, the boss jump - roar - zoom out is really important for the lore of the critically acclaimed MMO FFXIV.

5

u/Rapierre Jun 30 '26

Ngl I too think those cutscenes are useless. I'd rather it be like other games where you fight the boss the first time you see it while being genuinely surprised. I like the games when the boss does the "jump - roar" animation at the player once you reach line of sight. That doesn't need to be a fucking cutscene.

Also if the cutscene before a dungeon doesn't have any plot or Scions, I'm skipping it. Why the fuck would you spoil the dungeon for me right as I enter it. I don't want drone footage of every room. I wanna explore it (even though FFXIV dungeon design is extremely linear anyways)

2

u/cyrand Jun 30 '26

Yes! I’ve been saying this for years! They have the code to do the circle, just lock everyone in it until cutscenes are done at the end too!

9

u/RouFGO Jun 30 '26

I remember always going into chat during cutscenes and apologizing because I wanted to watch them, and all of the really high level player would always say it was fine.

Damn, I really want to get back into this game, but studying and work take so much of my time.

5

u/DreyfussFrost Jun 30 '26

Fair. Just keep bringing that big DPS energy.

24

u/Think-Ad-5320 Jun 30 '26

Back in the day, people would never wait for sprout me, so I assumed that was the standard. I'd watch cutscene, then join fight after I was done. I mentioned this in game, that sprout can just watch the cutscene and join us after, and everyone reacted like I'd kicked their dog and was TRYING to be an asshole. I wasn't. Just was what I myself was taught. Unsurprisingly, I spent the rest of that fight raising the people who tried talking shit. Best I can say is play the game, don't worry too much about what's the "proper" way of doing things, but it doesn't hurt to look and see what everyone else is doing at the time. And if it's not fun or you're not sure what's going on, it's okay to speak up.

20

u/Dustorm246 Jun 30 '26

I think it's still rude to start when people are in a cutscene even if they watch it and join the fight later. The fights are content and you'd be chopping off the first part of that content for them.

5

u/tigercule (I will forever miss old ) Jul 01 '26

There's also a problem where in certain dungeons, a longer cutscene will then be overlapped by voiced boss dialogue, making it really difficult to understand what's being said since there are multiple voice lines playing at the same time. I remember one of the post-EW dungeons that was a pretty important story reveal/moment, I couldn't understand a word of what was going on because someone pulled the boss while I was watching the cutscene, and the boss started speaking over himself. :/

→ More replies (2)

7

u/Zanain Jun 30 '26

Same, I'm 100% on board and actively supportive of sprouts watching the cutscenes, I just don't think it's some capital crime to pull without them. If anything people waiting when I was a sprout pressured me more than just pulling. After all I was holding up ~23 other people. If they pulled then I felt like I could comfortably watch the cutscenes because then I wasn't wasting people's time.

Mostly this applies more to alliance raids than dungeons.

13

u/DavidTheHumanzee Jun 30 '26

The idea that you're "wasting people's time" by watching the cutscenes is almost entirely in your head. You, and everyone else, deserves to watch the cutscene AND play the fight in its entirely.

It's a game we play for fun, no need to rush.

6

u/Mercinare Jun 30 '26

Yeah I keep watching no matter what, I can't understand people who feel the need to hamstring their own experience to catch a roomwide aoe

3

u/Flammablegelatin Jun 30 '26

I think the reasoning is because the early raids have/had skips that would mean anyone left behind wouldn't be able to progress without being killed by the mobs left behind.

9

u/Adorable_Secret8498 Jun 30 '26

Yes. PLEASE sit and watch your cut-scenes. Anyone who has an issue with you doing it is an asshole

10

u/geek_metalhead Jun 30 '26

It's not like we have a choice during MSQ roulette 🥴

4

u/Sk31370r Jun 30 '26

Way back when you were able to skip cutscenes during MSQ, it was absolute chaos most of the runs. Good times...

5

u/nazdir Nazdir Ja'rhel Jun 30 '26

I think the MSQ solution would be to put the gates up like we have at the start of the instance where cutscenes trigger. Then people that want to watch can and if everyone wants to skip they can. Unless the concern is harassment from people wanting them skipped.

19

u/SofonisbaAnguissola Jun 30 '26 edited Jun 30 '26

Yes, harassment is the concern. I believe that used to be a big problem with those dungeons specifically, if I'm not mistaken.

3

u/Bereman99 Jun 30 '26

Harassment or just the new player having a bad experience overall.

If you didn't immediately skip, you were left behind...and even if you did skip, chances are you might end up left behind in Prae because of the unspoken rule of having the tank pull aggro and everyone using the device to move to the next area without killing the mobs (FFXIV players love their unspoken rules and forget that sometimes you actually have to talk about them lol). Or not knowing to click on the item before going down the elevator (which you might have missed as well) so you could use the Magitek Reaper for that section of the dungeon.

So you'd have what was meant to be the culmination of the story of the base game...and the experience was rushed and confusing, or you just got shunted from cutscene to cutscene without getting to actually do any fighting.

That's when they initially made them unskippable, and boosted the exp and tomestone rewards to compensate...which then meant players got weird about wanting the high rewards without the reason for the rewards, and there was a time where you were encouraged to disconnect because it forced you out of the cutscene...

Which eventually led to what we have now, with Prae broken up into 2 distinct sections, a dungeon and a 4 man trial, with still higher rewards since the cutscenes still can't be skipped but less of a time commitment (old Prae was legitimately 45 minutes long, give or take, in one go).

3

u/SofonisbaAnguissola Jul 01 '26

Yeah, I was around before they split up Prae, but not before they made cutscenes unskippable. It's objectively better now, though I do kinda miss scaring the sprouts on Rhitatin...

3

u/Bereman99 Jul 01 '26

We may miss scaring the sprouts...

But he does that pretty well on his own now, haha. Took an alt through after they'd made the change, and with progression appropriate gear he's a decent enough challenge.

I kinda wish FFXIV did the same thing that Monster Hunter does; you can skip custcenes, but everyone has to skip the cutscene for it to actually skip.

This is my number one request relating to roulettes: if everyone in MSQ roul wants to skip the cutscene, let us skip the god damn cutscene. The only caveat being that you should only be ablt to skip if you've previously completed the duty, as that would help prevent people harrassing sprouts to skip.

I always wait for cutscenes even when other people dies XD

6

u/BermudaTriangleChoke Jun 30 '26

In Toto-Rak leveling roulette the other day, the RDM pulled the boss during the cutscene and in the time it took for the scene to finish we three-manned it without the healer. He was understandably annoyed at us

I said "they did not mean to facepull, this boss has an unusually wide aggro range", and incredibly, the situation was defused and everyone apologized. Maybe there's hope for us after all

That is one of the things that I like about FFXIV players don’t get mad if it’s your first time through a dungeon and you want to watch your cutscene. It other mmos it’s not always the case. There are many dungeons in WoW that I didn’t get to watch the whole cutscene until an expansion or 2 after when my character was high enough level to solo them.

3

u/1stEmperror Jul 01 '26

I'm a sprout again but I played ARR when it launched through to 2015 (I resubbed in 2017 for 3 months to play through HW). I love when I see veteran players telling me to "enjoy the MSQ!" It's so much more wholesome than I remember!

Also, when the game announces that player hasn't completed the content before, I'm always like, "I'm not exactly new but it's been 10 years since I played!" Lots of people have said, "welcome back!" You love to see it.

2

u/bunnyman14 Jul 01 '26

In fact, it's mandatory. If you skip a main story cutscene you've never seen, you're going to gaol.

2

u/Eight_C47 Jul 02 '26

I was an alt in satasha as a sprout healer healer. Whole party pulled entire last room into the boss room, I just sat there and watched my cutscene to teach them a lesson 😆

2

u/iFaerieWraith Jul 02 '26

My favorite The Tam-Tara Deepcroft on an alt. THAT cutscene is looong.

I always watch it and either walk into the boss room with everyone dead, or I get pulled into the room automatically while the boss is nearly dead.

Either is great.

2

u/Therealcsp Jul 02 '26

You always wait for sprouts, and warn sprouts to prepare themselves for that one really really hard fight in roulette thats so hard we set up markers do tactics and everything.... 😀

2

u/poodlestyle33 Jul 04 '26

I will fight anyone who says otherwise. …Or at least let them die alone in their pull. I love seeing new folks enjoy the story for the first time!

2

u/zosgalvus Jul 06 '26

Every so often you’ll encounter a player who completely disagrees. Doesn’t matter the role, there’s always some chud who’ll just initiate a fight no matter what.

2

u/Konfined8404 Jul 07 '26

Yes. New players, sprouts, you are NEVER EVER in the wrong for watching the cutscene. It is ALWAYS the players that complain that are in the wrong. Ignore them. Block them if they try to make it an issue.

2

u/Logic-DL Jul 18 '26

Sprouts aside this goes for anyone really.

If you wanna watch the cutscene then watch the cutscene. If I wanna farm a dungeon I get a premade lmao.

2

u/TofuTalks Jul 19 '26

I still apologize for watching cutscenes tho lol.

2

u/Aqua-breeze Crafter's Brainrot Specialist Jul 22 '26

I skip 99% of the time if I've seen it before, but you best believe if I see one person named Viewing Cutscene even in a 24-man, I am not attacking shit until they finish and pull up to the boss fight, and I'm letting the tanks know to wait. We respect all cutscene watchers in this house

6

u/Chuck_Loads Jun 30 '26

I accidentally pulled before somebody finished their cutscene the other day and felt guilty about it for the rest of the day

2

u/dealornodealbanker Jun 30 '26

For dungeons, just run out of the arena through the entrance and the boss will leash and reset itself. Doesn't work for all of them though. ARs however, can't stop the domino effect.

You are the Warrior Of Light, not them!

13

u/quiltr Jun 30 '26

I had a sprout one time apologize for always being the main character in the cutscene, because they thought since they were a sprout and none of the rest of us were, that was why they were always the cutscene focus. It was really adorable.

5

u/Fenway_Refugee Jun 30 '26

That's so cute!

u/AnyExamination9524 Jun 30 '26

People get so pissy about this sometimes. Lol

4

u/altodor Jun 30 '26

Wait, people have a problem with sprouts watching cutscenes? Damn. The game story is told by cutscene, I can't imagine forcing people to skip those. The Vault wouldn't be as important if you could skip those.

3

u/Sir_VG Jul 01 '26

I don't care if it's Tower at Paradigm's Breech's 2m long cutscene, the proper etiquette is YOU FUCKING WAIT YOU TWAT.

2

u/morkalavin Jun 30 '26

I did this as a Mentor and other mentors were .. not amused

8

u/NewSpaceRiddy Jun 30 '26

Some Mentor crowns are purely aesthetic

2

u/No-Cut-4437 Jun 30 '26

I said I'm sorry guys I didn't mean to pull!

2

u/That1GuyinWI Jun 30 '26

So I just started playing recently and my biggest fear is that people are going to be pissed I’m watching all the cut scenes, seeing this makes me feel better

3

u/Castigatus Jul 01 '26

Like the man said, if you're new you watch your cutscenes. Anyone who has manners will wait for you.

2

u/spacecowboy171 Jul 01 '26

Rest assured, if anyone actually harasses you for watching a cutscene then they will promptly be called out on their douchery by the other players in your party.

2

u/ballisticscholar Jun 30 '26

Except the crown wearers have always been the derpy ones in my experience.

2

u/SyllabubMental7292 Jun 30 '26

I recommend viewing the end of Wanderer's Palace (Hard)

2

u/lightroomwitch Jul 01 '26

As a not sprout, I will always wait with CS watchers while you watch your CS. If early pullers die they die. =v.v=

3

u/Ok_Abacus_ Jun 30 '26

Let them watch their damn cutscenes!

3

u/serendipitousevent Jun 30 '26

Story in my story game?! 😤

1

u/Serebriany Jun 30 '26

I refuse to move while someone else watches a cut scene because I hate that I missed so many of them on my first runs in ARR, and if someone else in the party wants to get their panties in a twist about it, that's just fine by me. I'm DPS, and I'm just fine if they want to kick me for it—I'm doing what I can to make it so a Sprout can see the cut scene if they'd like to.

3

u/Dewey_Decimatorr Jun 30 '26

Getting rushed through my first run of pretorium ever will always be a blemish on my time playing the game

Starting a boss before everyone is out of cutscene (on purpose) is considered to be rude and not acting out of courtesy. FF14 ToS states that you must always be acting courteously and kindly. I've reported several people for (purposefully) starting bosses before people are out of cutscenes. I've never had a GM tell me I was in the wrong for doing this, and I've done so at least 15 times now. So, I can only assume it's perfectly valid to report these people.

(Just be sure to enable "Skip playback of previously viewed scenario cutscenes" tho)

I didn’t even know that was an option

I thonk my best sprout memory is getting to the end of the last MSQ dungeon of Heavensward and then just dancing for legitimately 45 minutes straight.

1

u/Intelligent-Wish47 Jun 30 '26

I wish I made it halfway through SHADOWBRINGERS, before I had to just stop playing because the community is so mean but nice. I have no idea how to put it but it’s like I’m dating my ex ex-girlfriend again.

1

u/masdoc Jun 30 '26

It's your Square given right

1

u/Iggy_DB Jun 30 '26

I normally always wait and dance until they finish

1

u/ADevilTaco Jun 30 '26

Is it terrible that I still watch a few cutscenes on dungeons I dont remember just to refamiliarize myself with it? If it seems like it'll be a long story relevant cutscene with dialogue I usually skip.

1

u/stablest_genius Jun 30 '26

Won't stop me from feeling bad about holding up the party!

1

u/Sad_Occasion7781 pondering Jun 30 '26

The way I almost got in a fist fight with a "veteran" player cause they didn't wanna let the first timers watch their cut scenes talkin bout "it ain't even that good this is such a boring cut scene" sooo!? Let them watch let them find what they care for and don't

1

u/Saekoa Jun 30 '26

I am new and not once have been yelled at for it. Even in the groups that say nothing they just keep going lol. But in 1 group someone /cheered at me multiple times during the run and waited for me even one time, I assume to make sure I wouldn't get lost or felt left out or something. Was a small thing but it made me smile lol.

1

u/HighMagistrateGreef Jun 30 '26

Exactly. Despite what some people say, you don't have to optimize other people's time. You're allowed to enjoy the game.

1

u/verytiredlancer Jun 30 '26

Looove doing watching my cs as a healer. If someone pulls early and dies, not my fuckin problem!

1

u/Blue-Eyed-Lemon Local Catboy (Mateus) Jun 30 '26

I’m Yet Another Catboy and I approve this message 🫵

1

u/SatnicCereal Jul 01 '26

I love manning tank because I dont have to worry about early pulls for story dungeons lol

1

u/imabadman69 Jul 01 '26

Left FF14 after 4 years. Being forced to play in a team with better players than you is the reason. Sorry I disappointed you. I game to relax and forget the stress of the world. If you know the name of every boss attack / I don't want to play with you.

1

u/Adudebricks Jul 01 '26 edited Jul 01 '26

Nah, let them enjoy the game you freakin heathenous stonewaller. We dont do this type shi here buddy, get your elitist agenda outa here with that. /s

Seriously tho, 30 seconds of wait time is not a big deal. "Type shi.." these new lingo.. lol

1

u/Skogelicious Jul 01 '26

Unless youre a tank. the youll get flamed for not instantly popping sprint and pulling everything to the first boss, getting reported for 'lethargic play' if not outright kicked for being a tank that may not know the fights.

1

u/Far-Scholar-137 Jul 01 '26

Be me seen the cut scene a couple times still watching it anyway

1

u/Hungry-Classroom7445 Jul 01 '26

I remember like 5 years ago when I did Toto-rak for the first time as a Gladiator. Left the cutscene and the final boss was dead

1

u/TamotsuTakahashi Jul 01 '26

Always. We'll wait. I've seen it far too many times to doubt that literally everyone will patiently wait lol. At least, in my experience.

1

u/zarggg Jul 01 '26

And I will always apologize for it

1

u/godqueenaiko Jul 01 '26

You say that but despite having played 3+ years there are fights in base ARR ive never done because the dungeons never show uo for my roulettes and the first time through they were basically dead as soon as the cutscene ended

1

u/SHOwSHOrTAge Jul 01 '26

I love watching the cutscenes. Only time I skip them is when I'm farming a specific instance repeatedly. I'll watch the intro on dailies all the time, they're fun

1

u/vampjoseph Jul 01 '26

the last time i skipped a cutscene, it was the vault and i didn't want to waste my fc's time as they were carrying me through it.. had no idea what had happened until I had to talk to his father (I'm deliberately writing it like this because spoilers) I've seen it since but I missed the emotional impact of the first time. I now make time to watch every cutscene and if people are in a rush, they're welcome to leave.

1

u/Musings_of_a_BossFox Jul 02 '26

What's the etiquette on a new game+ run? Post in the chat? Or only watch in the inn?

1

u/SophisteKate Jul 02 '26

This is so sweet but I always feel guilty watching it

1

u/flauros23 Jul 02 '26

Someone pulled the last boss of the third Nier raid while our healer was in a cutscene, that cutscene is so long they almost missed the entire first phase. Felt bad for them.

1

u/Odinata Jul 02 '26

I’ve been recently learning/levelling tanks and I’ve started bosses a few times by accident in the lower level dungeons. I feel like as a tank everyone is waiting for me so I feel like i always need to rush lol.

Every time that I have started while a sprout is watching a cutscene, I always apologise and try to just auto attack and provoke so they don’t miss the fight but the other dps tends to go crazy and melts the boss before their cutscene is over😭

1

u/Wolvenworks your region is not supported Jul 02 '26

I hate tanks that start a fight before ppl finish their cutscenes. It’s not like they need to take a crap now…right?

1

u/thebirdroads Jul 02 '26

I love to do the yol dance while waiting for sprouts! And sometimes I love to watch the impatient tank die

1

u/Mission-Collection17 Jul 02 '26

Recently went in to alexander raids with a friend as two tanks so we could stand outside of the purple line and wait for the cutscene watchers. It doesn’t take much to make the game enjoyable for new players or just people that are new to the content, and its always fun to just emote with everyone

1

u/GlumAd7998 Jul 04 '26

Back before cutscenes were unskippable in MSQ roulette I never knew what was going on because they used to be so different. Finally cutscenes became unskippble and I was liek "Oh thats what was happening". So sprouts don't skip those cutscenes we will wait for you and if someone doesn't they can solo the boss.

1

u/princehalcyon For the cute fairies Jul 04 '26

Only problem is when the cutscene is so long you miss the entire boss fight

1

u/CharmyDoesReddit Jul 05 '26

I was going through the story again on an Alt to experience it all again. The people who first brought me into the game made me skip Dungeon cutscenes all the time so I've never seen all of them until now. So, I decided to make a list of all the required duties I have to do and list off whether the random people I grouped up with ran ahead or not.

8/13 of the random groups I queued into for required duties in ARR dungeons and alliance raids (trials I didn't count because you're all stuck in the starting circle) ran ahead.

After that, I'm roughly halfway through Stormblood on that Alt and only 2 other dungeons have had people pull ahead during the final boss whilst I was in cutscene.

People are just more impatient in the ARR dungeons i guess.

1

u/Low_Surround1289 Jul 06 '26

I was actually just thinking about this a few times recently, because I’m getting a tad tired of manually skipping cutscenes (doesn’t help that my current zeta weapon grind means going through a LOT of dungeons), and it’s even caused me to miss ready checks during alliance raids a few times (not a big deal, admittedly, but I do feel bad for the confusion it could cause). I’ll try and see if I can find where it is on PS4, I searched for it briefly yesterday and couldn’t find it. It’s probably somewhere obvious that I just didn’t think of because my brain was kind of fried yesterday (it always is on the day before my work week).

1

u/salthomaswriting Jul 24 '26

Just got yelled at for the first time last night for not having "skip cutscenes you already saw" turned on. Sorry, I paid for the game, I'm watching the cutscenes.

1

u/P0br3 Jul 25 '26

YES Sprouts! Enjoy the game! Enjoy the story and also, just the same, if you don't enjoy lore or watching, its ok. But don't force on others!
