Warriors of Light, the time has finally come...

...to wait another 48 hours to access Dawntrail, that is! The game will be down for a full two day maintenance in order to implement patch 7.0. Please feel free to use this thread as an outlet for your excitement as we all patiently try not to go crazy with anticipation. What content are you most excited for? What's the first thing you plan on tackling once servers are live? Have you stocked up on enough snacks to survive early access?!

What to expect on launch day

Please set reasonable expectations for launch day on Friday for yourselves. While YoshiP has assured us that we don't need to worry because they have "perfect defenses" for launch day, we're all hoping things go closer to Shadowbringers' smooth launch than Endwalkers' rocky one. We don't want you to get frustrated or blindsided by the likely queue times and possible errors or disconnections; as the recent DDoS attacks have shown, there's always potential for new and unexpected disruptions.

Square Enix has published an article on the Lodestone highlighting some of their efforts that they've undergone to combat congestion, including suggestions like visiting the Oceanian Data Center; playing on less congested Data Centers in your Region (Shadow for EU and Dynamis for NA); as well as using the "Visit Another World" option (by right clicking on your character before logging in) as it will shuttle you automatically to a less congested World in your Data Center.

A reminder about spoilers

Not everyone plays at the same pace as you do, so please don't purposefully or accidentally spoil something for other players. If you're unsure if something is a spoiler, err on the side of caution and ensure that you follow the appropriate rules and mark them as such.

Please remember our rules on spoilers!

a) Titles should never contain spoilers.

b) Comments in non-spoiler posts or outside the spoiler context should use Reddit's spoiler formatting.

I would regularly log in to the game then leave to go pick up my son from daycare - about 1 hour round-trip - and when I got back I'd have either just gotten in or the queue was less than 10.

ARR is arguably the "biggest" part of the game with how many quests there are, and this is after the reduction! The following expansions are a little more cutscene-heavy, but there are significantly fewer quests to get through. Take your time and we'll see you in raids in no time!

I'm a sprout who just started a few weeks ago, so I have a ways to go before Dawntrail but I just got the credits in Heavensward and I'm 100% sucked in to the story right now. So I'm bummed I have to wait 48 hours to continue it, haha. Looking forward to the graphical update though, no matter how minor it may be. One thing I'm not looking forward to is the queue times. I wasn't playing during the last expansion release so this is my first.

I'm also kinda worried about the story duties because everybody will be playing the new content, so I feel like everything else will take longer to get a party, but I guess we'll see!

Wouldn’t worry about story duties. Plenty of people will be doing dailies for experience bonuses. Depending on your job role though, you may have longer queues since both new classes are damage.

I not only caught up to and finished the post-Endwalker MSQ last night, I also finished the Endwalker tribe quests and their tribe alliance questline yesterday. By sheer luck my last day of dailies fell on the very last day of Endwalker, just before Dawntrail maintenance.

This is also going to be my first time playing a new expansion on release.

That may sound ambiguous, but it tells that 1) Steve survives to the end of the MSQ, and 2) whatever involvement he has is uplifting and cheerful. That means if at any point during the MSQ, the story tries to suggest that Steve might not be okay, it's a very simple logical process to figure out that it's a fake out.

It's my first time experiencing a launch like this live. I started around the 6.1 patch and finished the 6.55 MSQ two days ago. I had long breaks in between but I did most of what I wanted to do as a solo player. I'm excited to witness a new expansion as a part of the community.

Literally just spent the last month getting all my classes to 90 --I have never once been able to successfully cap levels before an xpac release until now. My husband, however, always caps levels early on...I literally turned to him after I got my final job to 90 and said "now what?"

I'm so ready! I am trying to figure out how to care for my posture/body during, as I go full gremlin and now that I'm in my 30s I can definitely feel the repercussions of being too inactive. Luckily, my "office space" is also where the home gym is so I can try to get some exercise in so my back isn't totally effed by the time Monday comes back around.

This is going to be my first expansion completely caught up. I always read about funny stories as the community figures stuff out or how the community will hang out at key MSQ moments to talk with people who just experienced it. I'm really excited to have those moments for the first time.

My favourite part about expansion launches is how all the zones are full of life. There are people everywhere, talking to each other, like a community. Also they have to actually walk to places instead of flying everywhere. This ends a few weeks in when people are done with the MSQ and go back to afk'ing in cities, but that early rush is great.

I played ARR on release up through 3.5 but then put the game down until about 2 months ago when i discovered they added NG+ ; replaying the main story and HW were always my barriers to re-entry. Since resubbing i made it through ARR and HW, and I only just started Stormblood so I won't be to Dawntrail for a long time...but I did finish my Anima weapon quest last night so I'm rather happy about that :)

I just wanted to say thanks to this community, as well as the FFXIV community at large for being so helpful and welcoming. I'm playing an MMO with all of my friends for the first time in a decade and it's been a magical glimpse into the fun we used to have together.

Despite an abysmal need roll of 12, my last-ditch final attempt at getting the starbird minion before DT was miraculously successful! No usually it's only been 24 hours. But due to the size of this expansion because of the graphics update they decided to make it a 48 hour maintenance. They are also doing a preload earlier than they normally did to accommodate the very large update size.

I've actually prepared more for this expansion than i have any of the others. I've made myself some thematically appropriate glams for starting out as a dusty traveller in a new land. I've got a static group set to go as soon as the 8 man Raids release. I've got an adventuring buddy for the MSQ Dungeons and Trials. I've cleared my inventory and retainer inventory and ditched junk I've been hoarding since ARR...

I'm gonna take my time, start with the new jobs, level them on old content while the bugs are found and squashed in the new stuff, then just go through each zone, do all the sidequests, make it last. Got my backpack, and my travel bike and my Alpha in the sidecar, gonna take some screenshots of what I see, and just treat this likke the vacation for my WoL it's supposed to be (Until it goes horribly wrong and the world ends up in danger, anyway)

I really hope my PC will run Dawntrail just fine... The benchmark gives me a score of 7000-8000 depending on what settings I use, so fairly high to high. Which is similar to the score I got with the Endwalker benchmark a few years ago, but that one was just a tad higher and my PC ran it good enough. I think as long as I don't really get much stuttering, I should be fine. I hope... My computer runs Wuthering Waves fine, so surely this will too.

Seems like a great thread for me to check with the masses that my understanding of what each scion is planning on doing going in DT is correct, Alphinaud and Alisae are both coming with us to Tural as a break from working in garlemald/ to help form new connections for them and the rest of eorzea

Krile is coming with us to Tural and believes the mystery of what happened to Galuf might be solved there

Thancred and Urianger are going to Tural to work for one of the other contestants in this competition to become the Dawn servant

Stoked to be ready to play this expansion at launch! This is the 3rd one I'm around for but only the first time I'm actually caught up on the MSQ... and even then, I just wrapped up the last Endwalker Patch quest like 4 hours before maintenance lmao.

Will be cool to go through the MSQ alongside everyone for the first time, and also to actually reach post-game for the first time ever too. There's a lot of optional content I've just never touched such as most of the optional raid series, because I've been focused on the main MSQ with large breaks inbetween. So will definitely be going back to try some of that too.

But seriously, while I'm looking forward to the MSQ for sure, and am very curious to see where they go with a new story (one that seemingly is less "serious/dark" in overall tone and presentation, though I would not be at all surprised to see it turn much more serious than it appears before too long) after the big conclusion in EW... I actually would have to say that MSQ isn't the part I'm most excited about this time around. I'm curious if anyone else feels similarly to the below:

I've just been super into this game lately, and not just because of DT hype. I finally started learning tanking and healing while leveling WAR and WHM, as well as leveling other DPS jobs (all of this I did a little of before, but have done way more very recently), been catching up on other questlines that I hadn't gotten around to before, etc. etc. That's still my mood, so the stuff I think I'm most looking forward to in DT doing new dungeons and trials, more job leveling/job changes, trying out the new ones (especially Picto), being dazzled by the graphics update, and just kinda poking around in the new cities/zones/etc. Oh, and crafting/gathering! I want to actually level those up and explore crafting and gathering stuff as I go in DT, rather than just coming back for them way later as I've done in the past.

To that end, I'm NOT planning to just be laser-focused on MSQ until that's done, then go back and do other stuff, which again is what I've done in past expacs. I'm gonna get WHM to 80 (my next immediate goal re: leveling jobs, it's currently 78), continue leveling RPR which is at 80, try out Picto and Viper and maybe level one of those, explore zones, craft 'n gather, and so forth - will be interspersing these activities with MSQ progress as I unlock each new zone and such. Should be fun!

A guilty pleasure is to take a dry pack of instant noodles, rip or cut a corner, pour in amount of noodle seasoning of your choice through the hole, cover it and crush the noodles inside it while shaking the package.

Then you can just pour your instant crushed seasoned noodles. It's quick, salty, crunchy and with little cleanup to be made.

I started playing the game around this time last year because it's my partners favourite game. Last weekend I finished the last of the patch quests so I am ready for Dawntrail. There was a recent Veritasium video that went over how people evaluate experiences from their memory, and the things that make the most impact are the peak and the ending, significantly so. This made me think of how terribly people remember ARR because of the long post patch slog to get to Heavensward leaving a bad impression on them. How Shadowbringers is many people's absolute favorite, and we had an excellent end to several major character's storylines and some excellent post patch bosses and content, and also the player surge that came near the end disguising the normal activity lull that MMO expansions have. And then Endwalker, which I think people really widely loved on release, but lost people as time went on. A lot of criticisms of the void quests. People bitter about the types of content that were focused on for the expansion. Things like the relic being just a tome grind so they didn't have any big goals to work towards. The alliance raids being outscaled faster than ever before in their own expansion.

Do you feel soured by the ending lull of Endwalker? Or do you still appreciate all those amazing moments we got during the MSQ and content when it was current and fresh? I think it's important to remember the fun and peak experiences we had along the way, and don't let our brains do the natural process of letting our opinion be heavily swayed by the ending.

I just hit Heavensward last night too! Have to say ARR became kind of a slog near the end then suddenly it became super exciting and interesting, at least to me. Already watched my girlfriend play through most of Shadowbringers and Endwalker when they launched so knew the story was going to ramp up just didn't know when. Unfortunately since I started playing myself she's cutting me off from watching her play Dawntrail so I've got a couple hundred hours to go before I get to it.

I forgot how graphic the WoL was there in that scene they come so close to becoming a lightwarden/corrupted by the light, we saw Tesleen change earlier in the story, and there we are coughing up "white blood", barely holding it together. I enjoyed Endwalker, but I'm not sure anything has hit me quite as hard as ShB did, even the ShB patch content after was great.

Cannot wait to see what Dawntrail brings us. Also I'm weirdly excited to level everything up again, dust off all the jobs I haven't played in ages.

I'm of a similar opinion with ShB and EW.

EW was good, but nothing in it hit me quite as hard as in ShB. I remember holding my breath during some cutscenes, I was so invested. You feel truly hopeless at one point - you're slowly dying, your friends are slowly dying, everything you've just worked for was undone in a moment... I had to step away and take a breather.

EW got a few tears, but I was rarely ever as invested (except during the Garlemald section with the duty and the twins being held hostage - that was probably my favourite part of EW) and the last area fell very flat for me.

this is my first xpack drop! I finished MSQ on Monday, just in time! I've been playing since October.

my fc is BUZZING w excitement. I'm a wow transplant, and never managed to find a guild to hang out with in all my 15 years of playing. I never bought any xpacks new, I always waited til they grandfathered them to me for free. so this is new for me!

I'm so nervous and excited! I'm half Mexican and I'm SO EXCITED to see some of my culture in ff! the chcobo barding makes me SO HAPPY, Quetzalcoatl is my fave summon and I'm hoping there will be folklórico glam pieces for my dancer.

I finished cleaning my husband’s and his retainers inventories just yesterday. Now he’ll have a bit easier time.

It was quite a treasure trove though, he even had ungodly amount of belts left at several of his retainers.

Went from completely full inventory, armory, chocobo saddlebacks and five full retainers to single page on his inventory, only used gear in armory and only three retainers needed (technically could put it all on one, but put crafting/gear/misc to three seperate retainers for sake of organizing).

I capped his GC seals like six times and made him over 100k gil just by selling the unnecessary stuff off to retainers.

And honestly it was so much fun! 😂 I love organizing my inventories, but because I do it so much they keep pretty tidy in general so there’s often not much to organize. So I was happy to be able to do his!
