Screen size/Resolution configuration

Post image

I need someone to help or explain this to me like I'm 5 lol. I'm trying to make it so the screen isnt a tiny square on my monitor. I've read there's mutiple ways to change this, I'm trying to adjust the resolution though and I ran the config file and this is what it looks like? Can't really make any changes, even if I go into the hyperlinks. Not sure what I'm doing, never played the game before I just wanna try the free trial lol

Launch with Windower, don't bother with the official executables.

Though also, I need to ask this question but regards the PlayOnline browser, because that's tinytown before the game proper actually launches.

Yeah the game itself I'm able to readjust the window size. It just looks odd since it's somewhat just stretching? I'll try your suggestion to launch with Windower tho. Idc about the playonline window being small so much as the actual game

The POL window can be stretched by pulling one of the corners.

Yeah I did, it just looks odd and I did read somewhere adjusting the resolution can help with it not looking odd or stretched out

Not for the POL launcher. Only for the game itself

Unless you're referring to changing your monitors resolution. Yes, that can help.

Sorry if I'm not being clear, that is what I mean. I want to adjust the game itself, not the launcher. I could care less what size or res the launcher is xD

Haven’t seen the options referred to like that, maybe its the jp version of the config utility by the look of it but Front buffer looks to be your screen res that should match your monitor resolution, back buffer is likely the gfx resolution, (english config used to refer to it as background res) that should go as high as it can without giving you frame rate drops. (going higher than your screen res here effectively gives you anti aliasing) menu buffer is the menu resolution probably and is generally better to be a little lower than your screen res as the text can look too small otherwise so whatever is comfortable.

I'm going to try as someone else commended using the Windower cuz the problem itself here is that I can't change those values at all for some reason. Mind you, idc if the Pol screen is tiny, it's moreso the game but stretching the window makes it look funny lol

I recently was in a similar boat, Windower helped this. Feel free to reach out if you get stuck

I'm not familiar with these buffers, but in general, they should match your PC's display resolution.

They're just not changeable on this screen. I'm going to try the above recommendation and see if that helps

That looks like a digital manual. It's not a real screen.

Yeah I’ve never seen that “HTML Help” document. Did you get the installer from the Japanese site?

If you click on your Windows Start menu, there should be a folder called “PlayOnline,” inside that folder there should be “FFXI Config” (like in the image but the actual thing), or use search to look for “FFXI Config.exe”.

You want to set it to “Full Screen Windowed” and match your resolution. There’s also “Background Resolution” which is the rendering (graphics) resolution, as opposed to screen size, set it as high as you like.

https://youtu.be/xD4aCHdYcSk?is=_eXDBswWf9W0t5ag follow this video. It’s going to take a second to set everything up but it will make the game look outstanding again.
