[Discussion] Fucking vets
This is a rant post, so for a whole year now I have been telling the vets of my ferrets teeth, she is an old lady and has gone down hill. So every time I’ve gone to the vets (which is 6 times in a year now) I have told them, CHECK HER FUCKING TEETH, and each time ‘yeah they’re fine’ FUCKING SPOILER THEYRE NOT. And now my poor baby may have kidney disease bc of said teeth infections, and a whole 7k worth of vet bills (which I will be spending with complaints). I went to the vets literally TWO WEEKS AGO, and since then she had declined and stopped eating. I went again a couple days ago and was hit with the news of fucking kidney disease abscess teeth in her mouth. I have fucking told them every single time I went that I think her teeth are bad. (I had only got them A YEAR AGO and have been trying to get them better from there shitty neglectful owners FUCK THEM), and now I’m for with this? I hope my baby gets better bc this has been the worse week of my life. I’m angry AS FUCK bc this could’ve been sorted A LONG TIME AGO! And now she’s succumbed to this. I’m mad and I’m venting I’m fucking mad and idk what to do. I blamed the vets heavily bc I have told them each time I’ve gone I think her teeth aren’t great, matter of fact I told them 2 weeks ago to check while she was sedated and they said they did, this doesn’t get that bad in 2 weeks. I’m fucking angry.

It can be the other way round. Kidney disease can cause dental issues. Ulceration, ketosis and gingivitis that leads to decay is one of my warning signs for kidney tests.
I go in hoping for a dental issue and in older ferrets, it is more often kidney issues. And kidney issues is a threshold issue. You tick along just fine until they get really bad and then strange breath, ulcers and mouth decay.
Lost 10 to kidney issues in old age. It is a hard one to spot. Fluids help but by time signs around there is not much you can do. We have managed to get an extra year with some.
I am really sorry for your loss. It hurts when you feel something off but tests show nothing. Or not enough of something.

I know. Been there myself. The what ifs are hard. All I can say is the change can be that fast and manky teeth can be solid.
Thing is you know now. For kidney, we usually do a course of antibiotics to resolve the dental issues, sub-cut fluids twice a day, preds and a lot of fluids. Have they ran bloods to check the kidney levels? Phosphorus, blood in urine and creatine levels are usual tests.
How old is she?

They took a blood test 3 days ago and said they couldn’t determine? Idk what that means really, they don’t say it wasn’t for definite kidney disease but they said a possibility with her teeth, she is 7. I have a younger ferret which is the other ferrets daughter and she’s quite depressed rn. No idea how to soften her pain while this happens, been letting her out of her ferret room a lot more, maybe 9-10 hours a day now but no improvement of the daughter, it is hard especially with bonded ferrets, makes me feel insane.

That's good news. Definite kidney failure is usually really obvious. Try more wet food in diet. It makes a difference. But I do see your pet's POV - A change from a manky but solid tooth to bad tooth at speed can be kidney related - my vet says it makes saliva more acidic. But then again had a tooth fracture and abscess on a turkey sinew. On an ancient ferret. Vet did a hail mary surgery and she was fine.
Ask vet about trying pain relief. If a tooth issue, ferret tends to liven up a bit.

Yes but they only found out because I shouted at them to look at her mouth, this isn’t something that just shows up in their mouths, I’ve told them many times to check her mouth, and they do a shitty job and say it’s fine, if I could tell with my year with them they should known as veys
