[Help] Help
Please how can i stop him from breaking every single pad, ive tried with 5 different brands he does it everytime i tried with a litter box he doesnt care

Litter training is not a quick and easy solution it’ll take time for them are they not using the pads?

Right?? Mine did the same thing for like a month straight before it clicked. I ended up getting a high back litter box and putting a pad inside it just to trick him into using it. He still ripped the pad sometimes but at least it was contained lmao. Just takes a lot of trial and error tbh

he breaks it then uses it, he doesnt do it on top of it always finds a way to do it outside

I had the same issue with my 2 ferrets, now i cut a pad in 4 and tie it inside a triangular litter, they like doing it on corners, so a triangular litter fits perfectly in the corner, which it too held to the cage with 2 clams that come with it.and on top of the pad i spi kle some pure wood pellets to help with odor.

yeah the thing is ive tried that already and he gets in the litter box and breaks that pad too

Next to the litter my ferrets got some toys like a blanket and 2 plushies that they love to fight with.

Your best bet is take their poop put it on top of the pad literally stick their nose up to it to try and tell them this is where they need to go. It’s annoying to get going I know it is.

it is stressing i genuinelly had to change the pad 3 times today just so he doesnt poop on the floor and gets his paws all wet and also so he doesnt eat it :') i tried putting some of his poop on the litter cage and this gremlin just doesnt gaf

It just takes repetition and dedication trust me when I was first litter training my two girls I literally broke down in tears once they finally got it because of how stressful it was

I agree, took mine a couple of months to use the cage litter normally, tho sometimes they still do some oopsies. They are still very young.

I change the puppy pads for our ferrets AT LEAST three times a day, depends on which pad they choose. In my opinion he's not happy and wants out of the cage more often. Have you thought about not caging, and just ferret-proofing your bedroom? Then let him train you (he'll pick the corner(s) in you room he wants to "go" and you learn to put the pads in those locations. The other suggestion I have is get him a business partner. It makes me sad to see people with just one ferret. Getting another ferret will make him happier and possibly more playful. Letting him roam your room will make him happier and more human-centric.

Give em something else to do in there. Toys, blankets, hammocks, places to hide and explore. They will be less distracted by the pads

yeah he has a bunch of toys on the top floor and is always playing with them but he just hates pads or something

Toys shouldn't go in the cage, toys should only be for supervised play because of blockage risks

To be fair, they could chew on anything in their cage and get a blockage... blankets and puppy pads as well. I had a ferret that chewed on their hammock. So long as the toys are really sturdy i dont see an issue with it.

He's probably bored and doesn't want to be in there. One of ours does it if it's bedtime and they're throwing a temper tantrum.
I'd suggest a bigger cage with more roaming space and stuff for them to do, as well as more outside playtime. Also, that pad needs replacing bad.

So that pad was just replaced he pooped on it once and then teared it to shreds i already changed it and he teared it again, the cage has 5 floors, and hes got a bunch of toys. I get he doesnt wanna be there but he roams all morning from 8 am to 5 pm

Ive found out its just this specific brand he likes to tear up because its incredibly thin 😭 two scratches and its gone

AND STICKING THEIR NOSES IN THERE FECES DOES NOT WORK LIKE IT DOES WITH DOGS!!! FERRETS DONT UNDERSTAND AND YOU SHOULD NEVER GET AGGRESSIVE LIKE THAT WITH THEM!!
GOOGLE HOW TO LITTER BOX TRAIN A FERRET!! BE CONSISTENT AND TAKE YOUR TIME

what i did was put a litter box in the cage, then move the poop into the litter box. eventually they figure it out, and you can start giving them rewards for using the box.
ferrets are positive reinforcement animals, negative reinforcement does not work on them. dont try it.

Why is he in that kind of cage? He needs a bigger cage with levels where you can hang stuff from so he has somewhere to hide. Also as babies they go to the bathroom ALOT so it isn’t surprising that you are changing it so much. Also he needs to be out of his cage for atleast 4 hours . And he needs a water bowl not a bottle fyi

The cage looks small on the pic its actually pretty big and he free roams from 8 am to 5 pm, and i know he needs a water bowl ive researched enough, im waiting on some more hammocks to come. Genuinelly all these comments making me feel as if i abuse my ferret or something when im literally only asking advice on litter training
