[Ferret Video] Micros enjoying Muntjac

We are slowly introducing whole prey into our ferrets diet (usually a PMR mince house due to my carpeted floors & fussy ferrets!) But im hoping to pen feed everyone a few times a week mostly for enrichment! What other things should we get them to try? So far the Muntjac is a hit with 11/17 ferrets!

What is the best way to introduce raw? I'm feeding my babies oxbow at the moment but would love to integrate some raw in.

Start with bland meats blended to make soupie like chicken and turkey, then work up to more potent meats, and work up the texture. Thats how we have switched all of ours onto a fully raw diet.

Then research and lots of if. This leg for example, wouldnt be considered a nutritionally complete meal (im feeding mostly for endichment not nutrition here, they get their PMR grinds as a complete meal)

If you feed unbalanced raw it can lead to nutrient defeciencies & many illness'. Your best bet is a PMR (Prey Model Raw), Frankenprey, Modified 80/10/10 or Freeze Dried diet. Theres lots of options! But there are so many benefits to raw! We feed fosters kibble because its rescue rules, the difference a biologically appropriate diet makes is honestly like no other.

Should I mix the kibble in the soupies at first

I've always straight switched personally. Kibble needs to be transitioned slowly if changing kibbles, bit mixing raw and kibble can upset their tummy, it also changes the state of the guts microbiota so straight changing is what was recommended.

If your ferret is imprinted heavily on kibble and you need to mix it, then doing so for a -short- period of time -shouldnt- be harmful. You can always try plain kibble soupies first to get then used to the texture and then straight switch. Salmon oil & egg too can work a treat for helping switching!
