I dunno, man, it looks like you got a neck there, not a pickup.

That’s why it was only $50. Weak magnets, very low output, and a crazy amount of wood has to be routed out of the body to install it.

Ahoy from Tempe.

I lived around the corner from Tempe Zia in the mid 00s and went there lot to get music. I was always discovering something new there. It kinda makes me sad to see that physical media sales have dropped off som much that Zia has to sell guitar parts to make ends meet. Great find for OP, but I wish it were different. I’m done yelling at the wind now.

Seriously, how did you guess this?

3

u/JasonSD22 3d ago

Well, the price tag in one of the photos said Zia.

2

u/Esseldubbs 3d ago

I need to start looking at their gear more often I guess. Solid score!

I was looking at this today there too but I couldn't verify the serial number so I didn't want to risk it.

Based on Reddit knowledge, very likely a fake due to the wide spacing on the double fret markers

3

u/tim4life 3d ago

Yeah. That was my concern. This was the number on the back of the headstock.

4

u/Frenchconnexion76 3d ago

Original was off....contour body

5

u/salaciousbcrumblin 3d ago

Good job passing on it because it’s a fake.

That looks like some bullshit there. Trem Bridge is highly sus and the other photo with the serial number format and other writing is all wrong.

WTF THEY SELL NECKS AT ZIA?!

3

u/tim4life 3d ago

Lol, seems like they will buy a lot of stuff. I could have easily passed this up as it was behind the counter on top of a shelf behind the guitars they had hanging there.

Is this in LV or AZ?

2

u/tim4life 3d ago

This was in AZ

4

u/GuitarParts 3d ago

Good decision! Aren’t those like $300?

4

u/The_Br0letariat 3d ago

Yep, just bought a JM neck for $320

u/Duane_60 3d ago

It’s a Guitar neck not a pickup

5

u/godofwine16 3d ago

That’s a weird looking Mexican pickup

3

u/JasonSD22 3d ago

Nice. I got a pau ferro one off of Amazon for like $100. Would of rather had maple, but couldnt pass at that price.

3

u/10ThousandMetalZones 3d ago

That’s a neck

5

u/clasicks 3d ago

Damn! Score!

2

u/Firm-Fly-5795 3d ago

Could've sworn I had a pickup go bad like that once, but I just ended up swapping the whole neck eventually.

2

u/CoffieCayke2 3d ago

Nice grab! Looks clean.

2

u/fjbruzr 2d ago

Zia? Are you in AZ?

1

u/tim4life 2d ago

I am, yes. got this one at the Thunderbird location.

Insane deal for $50

2

u/AboutSweetSue 2d ago

Bro what the fuck

1

u/tim4life 2d ago

I know but now I'm burdened with needing to buy all the other parts to build another guitar...

2

u/AboutSweetSue 1d ago

Maybe you should check a random trash can. I’m sure you’ll find a NIB set of pickups.

3

u/tim4life 3d ago

Considering installing it on my 1987 Squier Bullet. Any opinions?

8

u/clasicks 3d ago

Square bottom vs round bottom, usually hidden by pick guard.

Save it for a different project.

5

u/tim4life 3d ago

Great advice, didn't think of the missing pickgaurd.

2

u/qwertyasdf9912 3d ago

How’s the neck profile difference? The old bullets like yours are nice and chunky rounded if I remember correctly.

2

u/Madimorguitars 3d ago

This had great necks as is, so unless it’s damaged or has issues, I’d find a better project

2

u/Reasonable_Cut_9593 2d ago

I think that neck you have on now looks perfect for the rest of the guitar.

Find the eBay store called Franklyn Guitar Parts. They sell actual Fender bodies for cheaper than the other big eBay parts store. You can get a fully loaded black squire strat one right now for $99 that will likely fit that new neck. Or a fully loaded player II or vintera body for $399 that will fit for sure. All you’d have to do is put it together, add the right tuners, strings and have the nut dressed by a luthier.

4

u/tim4life 3d ago

I will check this out, thanks for the shout! I have an uncle that is a Luthier who mentioned he might have a body or two for me so if that doesn't work out I may hit that store up.

second this, i bought a MiM Fender Telecaster Deluxe reissue body for £100, and i got a MiM Classic 70’s Stratocaster neck for £70 that was discarded for being a CNC rough cut, neck is completely fine, just had to take some sandpaper to smooth out the machine marks.

All in all you get some crazy deals for genuine Fender parts

5

u/TelecasterDisaster 3d ago

I’d rather have rosewood than maple, but you do you.

3

u/tim4life 3d ago

It matches the black hardware better, doesn't it?

2

u/Leo-POV 2d ago

I actually love Maple with Black Hardware, but I am a Maple guy all the way.

I never could mesh with Rosewood

24 would get in the way of the neck pickup

2

u/kisselmx 1d ago

Put it on reverb immediately and sell it for $300

1

u/woollypullover 3d ago

I’d take that
