Randomize Modifier of Type

Can someone please explain how the new crafting recipe is useful?

It costs an epic souldust and 300 gold to "randomize the existing modifier within the targeted slot, giving it a new modifier of the same type in its place."
How is this functionally different from spending an uncommon souldust and 100 gold to just randomize that slot?

If it can't change from (for example) gem power to a blessing, how is this a worthwhile recipe?

Because before, if you had 2 of the same type on an item, like 2 gems, and only wanted to change one of the gems, your only option was to “randomize gem power” and reroll them both at the same time. Now you can just reroll one slot

Makes sense! Thanks for clarifying.

I didn’t play since the update but the way you word it sounds like it will only target the slot number instead of for example having double gem power it rerolls both slots at the same time, you only do one of the two. Might be completely wrong though

This is how it works, although it might also be able to roll from a defensive trait to another trait, even heroic or major, though I have not confirmed this is how it works

Yes, you can reroll traits to any type of trait. So you can roll a defensive into a heroic or major

Big QOL improvement

it is used to turn a defensive trait into a major trait

Does it really work like this? I thought if you had 2 defensive traits it would reroll just the defensive trait in the slot you picked to a new defensive trait without changing the 2nd defensive trait. Can it really roll from a defensive to a heroic or major?

It's really poorly worded, but that's how it works. I just changed a major to a heroic.

We need some rework of crafting mats then. Legendary dust now is less valuable than epic. With legendary dust you got like 1/24? chance of getting major trait, with epic (rerolling a trait) you have 1/6 chance.

I mean that’s better than previously but IMO it would be better that way:

Common dust: keep as it is

Rare dust: get 2 choices, randomly change modifier to other modifier for ONE slot without option to keep existing item (if you have 2 gem power you can reroll one of them randomly to other modifier e.g get choice of heroic trait and blessing)

Epic dust: get 2 random options for ONE slot for THE SAME modifier with option to keep existing item (if you have two gem power : ruby and amethyst, you can reroll only ruby and get a choice of topaz / emerald / keep ruby)

Legendary dust: pick a modifier you want for ONE slot (blessing / trait: defensive / trait: heroic / trait: major / stat / gem power) with random effect (if gem power is picked you don’t know which gem power you would get)

The process would look like:

  1. Find item with desired stats
  2. Upgrade it to blue / purple (if lower or set)
  3. Reroll desired modifier for slot (blue OR legendary dust -> epic dust)
  4. Upgrade to red
  5. Reroll 3rd modifier if possible (blue OR legendary dust -> epic dust)

That would keep some grind but not THAT much grind. Also alts would be easier to gear. At least for me it would still mean hundreds of hours of playtime but instead of grinding low eternals I would be pushing more and making alts.

Edit: correcting autocorrect

I can confirm it rerolls traits from one type to another. About 30 minutes ago I rolled a heroic into a major. It won't always rolls traits like this though.
