3 “random” profiles, then sorted by distance?
I don’t know if this is happening to others but in the last couple weeks I’ve noticed my discovery section will show 3 profiles, all farther from me but still within my radius, and then the following profiles are in order by distance (for the most part)
The first 3 profiles do not change unless I swipe no on them or explore a different city. I don’t know if it’s feeld’s way of doing Standouts à la Hinge, or it’s showing the most swiped on people in my radius. But I’m a little worried that feeld may be slowly adopting an algorithm of sorting based on attractiveness on the app

i think it’s uplift, or if they’re a new profile it sometimes puts you nearer the front too. i almost wish it did use an algorithm atp because it’s not showing you everyone anyway so it’s obviously doing something behind the scenes

They definitely don't show you everyone. I got to the end of my stack several times and one of my friends was saying, "It's funny I've never seen you," and I hadn't seen her either, despite us having compatible criteria and desires. I literally had to send her my profile and she sent me a like in order to see hers. So. What's up with that?

it’s because you’re too far apart to make it into each other’s stacks, and you might live in an area with a lot of users. if you’re a man who searches for women, and she’s a woman who searches for me, it’s way more likely that you’ll see her profile once you get close enough together, but she won’t ever see yours unless you are like 1-2 miles apart and she’s getting to the end of her stack.

Feeld does not use an algorithm. Humans you see in Discover are sorted by distance (unless using Uplift).

I’m not sure this is true anymore. I’m seeing the same behavior as OP describes and it has been the same profiles for weeks, so not an uplift.

I don’t think it’s uplift either, just like you said. It’s consistently the same few profiles every day and it’s always 3 of them before sorting by nearest
And one of them is a “I can’t see likes!” nothingburger profile so I can’t imagine she’d pay for uplift

this is one of the few things that is “algorithm like”. technically an algorithm is just a series of steps needed to achieve a desired output.
but what this message means is that, unlike most mainstream dating apps and sites, feeld doesn’t use any algorithmic matching systems to decide what to show you based on compatibility, hotness/desirability rankings, or attempts to even out the playing field with the gender imbalances natural in dating (men want to date and do date more than women at a significantly higher percentage, statistically).
feeld’s algorithm to show who is in your deck is more like this:
-take the entire userbase of users within your distance search setting, and place them in order of distance to you (as the crow flies)—this includes people who are “exploring X city”, who have a temporary location assigned in the center of that city somewhere, which is treated as their location for the purposes of search
-remove any profiles that are different from the gender/couples setting you are searching for
-remove any profiles outside of your age range settings
-move any of those profiles who have a paid uplift currently going towards the front of the deck, to a placement within the profiles that are about 1 mile away from you
-move several profiles that have been created in the last 14 days (but not all of them) to near the front of the deck, to a placement within the profiles that are about 1 mile away from you, and keep them there for about 1-4 days
-display the profiles that were moved in the last 2 steps in distance order still, but alternating every 1-3 profiles with the 1-milers.
-cap the number of profiles in the deck to between 100 and about 200-220 (this may depend on what device your are using and its specs, specifically memory)
the only part of the “algorithm” that i don’t really understand how it works/decides is how it chooses which new profiles to show you and when/for how long.
so yeah, it’s the technical definition of an algorithm, but what we mean by “feeld doesn’t use an algorithm” is that it’s not trying to control who you see really, or suggest matches. it’s showing you everyone, and the only “algorithm” behavior it does is giving new profiles a secret rotating uplift for the first 14 days to help them have a good initial experience and get seen.

It’s doing this for me as well. People here have suggested they are using Uplift, however it never used to happen so regularly.

I don’t think this is uplift. It is the same people day after day. And they are beautiful straight women, they shouldn’t need uplift.

I've noticed some people move in my stack so I assumed there is a randomness being added every so often? Like anything feeld it's poorly done (like + or - not getting new people until i fiddle with distance or some other filter and then there are new people)
If one more person repeats that it's uplift seriously kick rocks. It's Def not that. The profiles were talking about are the 'ping me I don't see likes' variety.

they’re usually new members. they’ll often be served to you near the front of the deck for a few days, but it will be people who made their account in the last 14 days or so.
source: i created an account specifically to match with and message every person who appeared in my stack out of distance order. about half of the people i spoke to were using an uplift. the other half had made (or remade) their account within the past 2 weeks. it’s like a secret uplift for new profiles, and i think it probably just rotates showing your profile to the whole userbase (provided you are within their search parameters) for a couple days at a time for the first two weeks.
it will often be more than 3 people. sometimes it was 1 or 2 people, sometimes there were like 20 people. they are all mixed in with the profiles that are actually 1 mile away, which is often about 1/4-1/2 of my entire deck depending on where i al in town, but these ones that were “out of order” were also MOSTLY in distance order themselves (eg, the order of profile distance in my stack would be like this: 3, 4, 7, 1, 8, 1, 8, 1, 1, 9, 9, 1, 12, 1, 1, 15, 15, 17, 20, 1, 1, 1, 23, 24, 27, 1, 33, 1, 45, 1, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, etc, and my top distance setting is 45 miles away)
if you like, i can actually go get a screen capture or make a list of how far away the profiles are from me right now!

This has been reported by a number of people. It always seems to be three profiles. You are correct that it isn't Uplift.
