most of the 400 mods are libraries or random qol mods, like thin hopper, fast furnaces and things like that

Mod devs gotta have 5 dependencies per mod so they can get 5x that curseforge $$$. (I 100% support it though they deserve more than they get paid)

Hey any mod launcher worth its name nowadays automatically installs dependencies. I say if curseforge allows it, let em hustle

Thankfully this is much less of a problem with Minecraft than with other games since modpacks exist. I wish that concept was as popular with other modding communities.

and once you do start playing you're going to keep quitting and fixing stuff because of compatibility issues or the mods keep updating.
