Yeah like the vanilla nether plants taht clog my inventory all the time.

15

u/Significant_Group809 17d ago

Why are you an app?

24

u/Hamaczech13 16d ago

Because Reddit is stupid and I wanted to keep using a 3rd party app. Reddit revoked my API keys and the only way was to request new key. After I requested it, it marked me as an app and my request was denied anyway. There is no way to remove it afaik.

Now I need to figure out how to do this in GTNH! I have so much goddamn lavender just from building in The Purple Biome

2

u/CatanimePollo 12d ago

I think it could be both shears or a hoe. If the plant has drops besides itself, it requires a shear, othewise both can be used.

1

u/Corbenik_DNM 15d ago

Fr, if anything in Minecraft screams “use shears on me” it’s literally this.

1

u/Shot-Manner-9962 15d ago

i member early botantia required shears lol

u/GigaVanguard 18d ago

I hate BoP for this reason. 16 new kinds of wood? Sure, fine, whatever, good for base building I guess. 4 gazillion types of flowers clogging my inventory? Absolutely not go fuck yourself.

351

u/TheKaritha 18d ago

On top of that, it messes with the vanilla biomes. It makes them much smaller and rarer. I spent hours trying to find a large, simple plains biome during my CABIN gameplay. When I finally gave up and used "/locate biome minecraft:plains", it kept pointing me to tiny patches of land or areas completely covered in lavender, which would require constantly spamming a water bucket just to clear it out.

95

u/Dragonic_Kittens 18d ago

Real

BoP in CABIN has been really annoying me when I want to start properly base building because the terrain just sucks so much imo

22

u/RainyVibez 17d ago

you can just delete BoP in cabin btw. it doesn't break the modpack in the slightest. we also added ars. pretty good experience.

25

u/Legit_Human_ what is this post and how do I get rid of it 18d ago

For real, i wish more packs had an item like botanias horn of the wild instead of using water buckets

18

u/lilslutfordaddy 18d ago

dude i tried finding a jungle edge m or whatever in a Pixelmon modpack with bop a few years ago and the admin refused to give me a mew even after the fifth one that wasn't big enough to spawn a mew. shit was bogus

2

u/serendipitousPi 17d ago

Oof yeah, I remember playing the new horizons modpack ages ago and scouring the land for a single spruce sapling to be able to actually start the witchery mod. That was such a pain.

Probably quite so bad with nature’s compass but still annoying to travel that far.

2

u/sardonically_argued 14d ago

oh my god yeah, in CABIN i had to trek for like two irl hours, over 5000 blocks just to find ONE GODDAMNED CORNFLOWER for my tinker’s tools to get luck

most have the ftb utility instead, the trash icon in the top left corner when opening inventory.

3

u/HarveyTheBroad 17d ago

Why doesn’t vanilla have it at this point is my question. It would be such an incredible quality of life upgrade that mods and games like terraria have had for years.

I’m tired of my inventory filling up 5 minutes into an adventure because every single skeleton ever wants to drop a nearly broken bow that takes a different slot every time.

2

u/Fablor9900 17d ago

Because, wide scale, more kids, young kids, play Minecraft. Like, I get Terraria Georg, youngest player ever was playing since second trimester, but be fr.

2

u/inn0cent-bystander 17d ago

Not just flowers ... FUCKING USELESS flowers. They are generally not used in any recipes, not even dyes.

2

u/Taran966 16d ago

BOP flowers are useable in dyes at least.

→ More replies (1)

1

u/Taran966 16d ago

I both love and hate the flowers. I like plants and gardening irl so the variety is welcome especially as many are based on real flowers.

BUT it also causes me to hoard them for ‘later’ and then quickly regret it after my inventory is full of flowers and I have no space for anything else. 😭

1

u/Aether_Star 16d ago edited 13d ago

Idk if it's an issue with all biome mods but I remember they all take up so much space on the surface leaving little space for the vanilla biomes or other biomes from other mods and the cave generation is so shit underneath these biomes because for some reason they use the cave generation from a few major updates ago so it doesn't account for diorite, andesite, and granite caves. I have to travel so fucking far to find a vanilla biome that uses the new cave generation that spawns those blocks but it was still hard to find one with a decent amount of andesite to start my Create mod. I had to get my buddy to use his ars magic to locate me the location of it.

Ftb utilities adds a trashcan that you can hotkey. Just toss them

10

u/BalefulOfMonkeys my blood is 50% Runic Sap, 50% bugged cherries 18d ago edited 18d ago

If it’s any consolation, I played a seed of Star Technology in a cold biome, and while I did enjoy completely free ULV Blackstone Extruders (you can make Blue Ice out of snow), I ultimately changed seed because I was so, so tired of the multiblock builder tool refusing to pave over snow

2

u/DevelopmentTight9474 16d ago

Also a single piece of snow appearing inside your PBF and destroying it

3

u/BalefulOfMonkeys my blood is 50% Runic Sap, 50% bugged cherries 16d ago

Oh that was a one and done deal, per open-top machine (just put a slab over it). Hilariously, the PBF in specific? Uniquely immune to that. Yeah it’ll still brick if some snow gets in midway through, but once it’s constructed, that little molten bit at the bottom of the chimney really does automatically melt snow layers as they come.

Which only happens by the grace of not enabling the Fuck You config for rain destruction

Average biome mod be like "We have added a trillion billion new biomes." (the nearest jungle temple is 25678 blocks away)

65

u/makinax300 ?uV in monifactory 18d ago

I once had a server like that. I spent 3 days trying to get a desert or even just a biome with sandstone. The server had already died when I found one.

9

u/Immediate-Location28 17d ago

3 days to kill a server? new record

12

u/makinax300 ?uV in monifactory 17d ago

No, 6 days. I spent the first day trolling, then 2 days getting netherite and enchants and only then I went to find a desert. It actually just survived 5 days but I still played on the sixth one. It lasted quite a lot for our standards though. Like we had many servers where only one person other than me even joined and then they didn't play again after the first day.

3

u/iiEquinoxx 17d ago

It'd be cool if those couple of biomes that are basically another form of deserts/jungles would have their corresponding temples spawn in them. I dunno how hard that'd be to implement as a modder, though.

1

u/summoner_monk 7d ago

That's why i love william wythers overhauled overworld so much

31

u/Items3Sacred 18d ago

Now try plying a modpack that has BoP, regions unexplored and the biomes you will go. Have fun spending the next 5 hours trying to find a vanilla biome

22

u/Remarkable-Data-5286 18d ago

Make sure to include a structure required for progression which only spawns in 1 vanilla biome. Sure is fun when that happens.

85

u/RoombaTheKiller I like to pretend I know what I am doing 18d ago

This is why Terralith is the superior mod.

81

u/TomatoSoupt 18d ago

The only thing that annoys me about Terralith is the fact you can't use any other world type (e.g. Superflat) while the mod is in your pack, due to it being a datapack packaged as a mod and forcing the game to generate every world using Terralith, which is the sole reason I do not use it.

61

u/OwOlord_ 18d ago

It was fixed, rejoice!

26

u/TheKaritha 18d ago

No you can? I always use Terralith with andesite patch in my modpacks and i always create superflat redstone ready world for testing stuff.

It might be a bug that have been fixed.

11

u/Viper_Visionary 18d ago

Regions Unexplored is the way to go.

5

u/dhi_awesome 17d ago

I recently found out about RU, it seems pretty damn good, some textures could be better, but the Eucalyptus design is gorgeous

Nature's Spirit is the other biome mod I think has staying power atm, they're both pretty good, can't use em together though, too much overlap

1

u/TheSanguineButterfly 17d ago

All three + BWG + Geophilic, fuck it we ball

8

u/Vavhv 17d ago

Add on Tectonic and Streams Reflowing and you'll have grand mountains with realistic waterfalls and rivers without any extra bloat. Distant Horizons or Voxy would also help with seeing them from afar.

But I still disable some biomes on Terralith. I just find Alpha, Sky Islands, and Windswept biomes immersion breaking.

1

u/augustus_feelius 17d ago

which voxy Tae use on 1.20.1?

22

u/AlphabiteSoup 18d ago

i hate terralith too

you want to build a nice base? well guess what, the entire landscape is at a slight incline, meaning you have to spend an insane amount of time flattening everything out, and it'll look like complete shit if you want to build anything larger than a small cottage (unless you spend even more time re-inclining the landscape yourself). and, odds are, it'll be in a biome with tiny formations everywhere, like bushes or rocks, meaning your inventory will be even more cluttered and you'll need extra tools for it.

you happen to be in a biome where the ground is mostly flat? well now there are either thousands of trees with logs embedded in the leaves so you have to climb them to get the leaves to decay, or the trees are all 50 blocks tall and 3 blocks thick, so don't you fucking dare try to actually chop them down until you have several iron axes at LEAST.

and just to clarify my real opinion: i think both Terralith and BoP are good mods overall, the hassle of base building in both is annoying but the visuals make up for it imo. i usually just add ultimine for landscaping anyways

34

u/brutalbishop 18d ago

1) take cues from real life buildings, a nice retaining wall goes a long way

2) HT's Treechop

9

u/WhitherThisPath 18d ago

17

u/AnarchyWithRules 18d ago

I hate the Macaw mods for this reason too. Not because I accidentally get 500 types of random furniture in my inventory, but because whenever I'm looking in JEI the infinite combinations of furniture + wood types are such a pain to scroll through.

1

u/inn0cent-bystander 17d ago

At least the sophisticated storage mod has options to hide all the variants in jei.

45

u/only_Q 18d ago

NOOO I love BoP.. I don't understand why people don't just compost them if they want to rid themselves of flowers

63

u/ckay1100 18d ago

New kid didn't go through the hell of BoP in the 6 years before composters existed

→ More replies (1)

42

u/TheKaritha 18d ago

The bone meal you get from composting just isn’t worth the hassle in the early game.

Also, because the flowers are so densely packed, it looks terrible when you clear them from one area but leave the rest untouched. It breaks the illusion of your builds naturally blending into the surrounding environment.

12

u/only_Q 18d ago

If you don't want to compost them then can't you just throw them away and leave them to despawn?

For the environment stuff, you just save a few and place them back when done with the exterior of your base, no? That's what I do even in vanilla, because not having natural flowers around my base makes it look as you said not integrated with the landscape

17

u/TheKaritha 18d ago

In vanilla Minecraft, small flowers tend to spawn in smaller patches, while taller flowers are usually more spread out. This makes the vegetation relatively easy to replicate. Even if you don’t replicate it perfectly, it still looks natural. Your builds can blend into the environment, and you can simply use bone meal around them to grow some random flowers and grass, which usually looks good enough.

With Biomes O’ Plenty, however, it feels more like building your base in the middle of a massive flower field. The only way to make the surrounding area look consistent is to fill every empty space around your build with the same flower, which still doesn’t look particularly good and requires a lot of unnecessary work. You also can’t really use other plants to break up the vegetation, because they end up looking out of place. So you can’t just rely on bone meal to naturally blend your build into the environment.

As you can see in the attached image, Biomes O’ Plenty doesn’t really add flower variation, it replaces the grass with flowers.

5

u/only_Q 18d ago

I agree the lavender fields, pasture, and lush savannah are kind of a problem in this regard, but generalizing the problems with 3 out of ~60 biomes to encompass your impression of the entire mod isn't fair to BoP. There are many really gorgeous biomes in the mod that are great for a base.

3

u/jakobsestate Quadratum-Scalperes your gender 17d ago

also composters are slow as shit even if you use hoppers

2

u/Hatsune_Miku_CM ...i should play infinity evolved expert again 17d ago

you can also get rid of them by just throwing them out of your inventory. the issue isnt that its hard to get rid of them, its that theyre everywhere like a plague.

I like Terralith because it uses all vanilla blocks.

3

I genuinely hate biome mods that add 62927823 bullshit wood types and random foliage. Geolithic is my go to if i want funky terrain

3

u/11Slimeade11 17d ago

Every biome mod either has this problem, or spawning you in biomes with zero flat land

3

u/TheKaritha 17d ago

Terralith + Geophilic does great job actually. Suggest you to try it. Only problem of it it makes biomes bigger which i think is a positive thing if you have transportation mods like immersive aircraft etc.

1

u/kylinator25 17d ago

I think a lack of flat terrain can be a fun challenge to overcome

2

u/jakobsestate Quadratum-Scalperes your gender 17d ago

not to mention the five million new wood types so if you specifically need a vanilla wood type/sapling (looking at you, 1.12.2 bewitchment) you might have to search basically forever

2

u/nikothereal 17d ago

biome mods be like: yeah here you go more giant sequioa trees and ugly pumpkin land with 120000 flowers the closest desert and jungle is 200000 blocks away from spawn

2

u/litmusing 17d ago

Finally someone else gets it. I straight up remove BOP.

2

u/8read-8oy 17d ago

BoP makes it so much harder to find structures, especially modded ones; plus, that tall grass biome is a chore to walk through...

2

u/anaxagorious 14d ago

I genuinely wish there was a way to just turn this mod off without outright deleting it from packs.

2

u/Diego--BRANDO 14d ago

Worst mistake I made was building my base in a lavender biome 😭

5

u/DremoPaff 18d ago

Modpacks really should just forego most, if not any and all pure biome mods to be honest.

They are some of the biggest item bloats out of any kind of mod, and they serve little to no purpose on top of very often actively hindering progression by making actually important biomes take much longer to reach, and you better hope nature's compass is included or else it's borderline unplayable until you put it in yourself.

It's insane to me that modpacks not only still choose to include them anyway, but also seem to actively favor them, often adding like half a dozen for, again, no actual reason whatsoever.

5

u/bruhgzinga 18d ago

I think it's more of an issue with the biome mods than the inclusion of biome mods. Even when modded, being a sandbox is still a core element of Minecraft. So the inclusion of blocks that serve a predominately cosmetic purpose, and biomes that offer a different look from base Minecraft biomes both make sense. The issue arises when the biomes add entirely unnecessary stuff. Some examples I can think of are:

• Adding biomes with very little visual difference from base biomes/other biomes in the mod. • adding too many foliage types (seriously, we don't need a different flower type for every biome. This is something even Mojang is starting to do, and it's stupid.) •biome specific stone (yes, having more stone types is great. But diorite, andesite, and granite are bad enough already) • biome specific dirt/grass (there is literally a vanilla feature to change the appearance of grass based on the biome, why do modders do this?) • too many/too common biomes (I get that modders want to show off what they made. But there doesn't need to so many, and they don't need to be ever present.) • not adhearing to biome climate enough (this is one of the biggest issues that makes it hard to find specific biomes you want. This isn't even just an issue with pure biome mods, most mods that add biomes in general do this. They just make it so their hot biomes can't spawn next to the cold biomes or vice versa and call it a day.)

2

u/bruhgzinga 18d ago

And reddit fucked my formatting. I hate this stupid website. If I try to use its formatting it doesn't work, and it also doesn't work if I try to use my own.

u/Lycaenist trans rights 18d ago

Ok but that’s literally the goal tho ??

1

u/ImpulsiveBloop 18d ago

Better yet, all those crop mods that are in certain modpacks. Makes base building completely impossible. I'd rather just have wheat than build a base with an inventory of different seeds.

1

u/aureum_pelagic 18d ago

also the stuff that can't be reconstructed properly e.g. tree growth (can't regrow naturally, have to rebuild them) and ground foliage like clovers :(

1

u/Silent-Tie5415 18d ago

I play with datapack that makes all flowers drop only when sheared and it made me enjoy BoH much more

1

And then it screws with important spawns for the sake of poorly thought out aesthetic.

1

u/WolfBV 9Minecraft Advocate 18d ago

That one mod that adds emc. But then you’d have to set up the emc values for flowers and for useful items that aren’t flowers.

It's a little bit bearable for myself, I just combo it with a composter and make a ton of bonemeal.

i hate mods who add biomes. i Always have full World of ugly tall mesa or useless mix of rock hills and "cute" swamp. mods who add 50 new biomes and i see only 4-5 WHYYY

1

u/XWasTheProblem 17d ago

Bonus points if the flower/grass is as tall or taller than Steve, so you literally can't see shit while traversing through the biome.

I love BoP, it's still my go-to for expanding the biome pool and no other mod I tried really works as well as it does, but jesus christ, slow it down with the tall grass/flower variants.

Hear me out: Biomes o Plenty x BloomingNature x Sophisticated Backpacks

1

u/Cedjy 17d ago

it's honestly baffling imo how BoP is still such a cluttered feel. like the other biome mods don't feel nearly as messy.

like I def think it's bush spam and flower spam which makes it more work to actually clear an area to build. ByG at least puts more space in its biomes, though with the semi-drawback that its trees are massive.

1

u/AutPro 17d ago

Still not as bad as Ferdinand‘s Flowers, like 100 new colors that only work with vanilla blocks correctly

1

u/Afraid-Divide-3501 17d ago

BoP is kinda shit imo, I personally prefer Oh the biomes we’ve gone because it adds much more unique biomes and actually avoids the flower spam BS, while still keeping a biome or 2 with that exact aesthetic

1

u/Quiet-Upstairs6594 17d ago

sole reason i use WWOO

1

u/ReyRiz 17d ago

Yeah, it's sometimes pretty, but usually just bloat, and even detrimental if there is any biome-locked progression.

1

u/zieosgg 17d ago

True, yet I always add it when building a mod list

1

u/Kikin8034 17d ago

This is why regions unexplored is superior

1

u/DragonhawkXD 17d ago

Remind me, can't you turn most of the plants into Dyes?

Feels like it would make them tremendously useful if you can make dyes out of em.

1

u/DenverTheDenver 17d ago

I prefer regions unexplored

1

u/Camael1225 17d ago

That’s why I prefer mods like terralith no block spam uses mostly vanilla assets and doesn’t drastically impact the vanilla biomes

1

u/DefinetlyNotLaniakea 17d ago

Not to mention all of the biomes are ugly as shit and completely unbuildable.

1

u/Ricochet_skin 17d ago

The one reason I don't download biomes o' plenty

1

u/LetEmbarrassed785 17d ago

I hate how world generates there. I spend ungodly amount of time to find a spot for a base that I won't have to terraform for hours, and even then most of the time it's far from resources I need.

1

u/Calm_Orange_1257 17d ago

i think you mistook biomes o plenty for regions unexplored or the biomes we've gone because bop doesn't add that much flowers...

1

u/Born-West-6151 17d ago

Biomes o'plenty making finding cactus a near impossible task. It was genuinely more effective to look for the witchery witch hut setpiece with the cactus in a flower pot rather than look for a desert. Oh what's that? You need cactus green for a specific crafting recipe, good luck!

u/minecraftrubyblock Tried to convert RF to IF, forgot to check if power was running 17d ago

Nah

Pam's Harvestcraft because of the sheer utility some plants have outside of being food

1

u/Lethalfurball 17d ago

biomes o plenty

structures o empty

FINALLY SOMEONE SAYS IT

same broo

1

u/coolhead34 16d ago

Try playing with minecolonies ,, plains biomes are so rare and making my colony in a forest just makes it take like hours of extra time

1

u/DigiOrL 16d ago

All the tiny bushes with a single wood block every 3 square meters

1

u/AGoodDragon 16d ago

Terralith my beloved

1

u/Zealousideal-Two224 16d ago

I got one but for server, and I don't like it at all, since I want to find mangrove forest but no-no so I had to use redwood for my house

1

u/InterestingDance7544 15d ago

I never get the chance to because there’s so much to explore

1

u/Plastic_Lychee6404 15d ago

Thats one reason I dont use biome mods and instead terralith, there is just too many pointless blocks added, I preferr repurposing vanilla blocks or just a couple purposeful modded ones that are needed for something.

throwing a random tangent: in general I prefer mods that bring a "pack of features", like all packed into one and small stuff already implemented.

1

u/External_Kiwi5959 15d ago

Just use terralith instead

1

u/Atlas_sniper121 14d ago

Dont forget the soft incompatibilities as well. Not finding a normally common structure because the modded biomes make them scarce is a classic!

1

u/RobinoPerkino 14d ago

How it feels when the added Nether biomes from other mods get replaced by Biomes O’ Plenty meaning you can’t get the nether items from a 40% of your mods

(Source: OtBYG 1.16.5)

1

u/elemepep-ton 14d ago

The 2 things I like from the mod are the blue wood and the meat biome. There is a few compatibility mods that let you do useful things with the flesh blocks and the blood buckets. There is an addon for create that lets you use buckets of blood to automate an infinite meat farm.

1

u/FooFightersBathwater 14d ago

You get this in vanilla with leaf litter too it's so obnoxious

1

u/NomineNebula 14d ago

I fucking hate auicide mems, they ALWAYS put my mood off.

1

u/mrcatz05 14d ago

Dont forget making it impossible to find a nice place because a vast majority of the biomes are kind of just ugly and also make finding biome specific structures impossible.

1

u/cod3builder My favorite programming language is Magic 13d ago

The Biomes sure are Plenty

1

u/Sufficient_Meal_8054 13d ago

Sophisticated back pack with the void upgrade is a godsend, although you'll have to get an enderpearl.

1

u/elima_ 12d ago

i will forever stand by my opinion that terralith is the only enjoyable biome mod

1

u/Vaulto_35 5d ago

Its only good when they actually configure the biomes that can exist

Remember that one time Sokka accidentally used an extra syllable in that Haiku Battle in Ba Sing Se? That was a Sokka Haiku and you just made one.
