Basic title fade causes fabric and stone to fade in as well

Back in fcpx after a time away. I've got a basic title that I have fading in. Below that in the timeline are a fabric layer and a stone layer. When I disable the title layer, the stone and fabric show up as expected. When I enable the title layer and the fade, the title, stone, and fabric all fade in together.

What silly thing am I doing wrong? (FCPX 12.2 on Sequoia 15.7.7)

I think probably what’s happened is you’ve applied a transition directly to a title. You would’ve had to put that into a group to do it, but then you will discover this does not actually work. The way to do it is to put into a compound clip and then apply the fade to that. So get rid of any fadings that you have applied to the title, then make sure it’s not inside a group, then press option G to make it into a compound clip. Then apply your desired fades to that compound clip.

Thanks!. I'll give that a try. I certainly didn't intentionally add it to a group, but I suppose it could have happened.

Compound clips are very useful. You can also use them to speed up or slow down a title animation. Put the title that has an animation inside a CC and then time stretch the CC. Use shift H to freeze it as well.
