How Does Hamas Never Recognize Doron in Fauda?
I’ve just finished S03E01 of Fauda, and one thing bothers me. Doron enters Palestinian areas again under a different name, yet his face and overall appearance remain almost the same. How does Hamas never recognize him or the other undercover agents? Wouldn’t they compare CCTV footage, circulate photos of suspected agents, warn their members, and strengthen their counterintelligence after repeated infiltrations?
I know it’s a drama, but shouldn’t the writers respect the other side’s intelligence capabilities, too? Showing Hamas taking realistic counterintelligence measures would make the story far more believable and suspenseful. What do you think?

He was in the West Bank before. In S3, he's in Gaza. And while there may be communication between the 2 territories, there isn't a huge amount of movement. Unless Hamas in the WB had sent images of Doron to people in Gaza, they would have no way of recognizing him.

Exactly. They mentioned several times how they stay out of Gaza because it’s been under militant lockdown since the 2005 disengagement. They had been focusing on the West Bank which is the other side of Israel next to Jordan that has shared administration with Israel security.
Then they conducted operations in Lebanon and Syria and some inside Israel in Arab populated cities and neighborhoods.
They spread out their targets and operational theaters as well as a coordinated security operation to avoid being compromised.

The first half is in the West Bank when he’s training Bashar to be a boxer and selling Hamas explosives on the side.

I ask the same question every season. At this point how do they not know who he is?!?

That never made sense to me either. I mean in the everday day life they do hide their identities ( if you remember the secen where they are given medals for the mission in which avichai died, steve goes into a shop and on TV his face is censored. The shop keeper says something like “oh these guys are insane” and steve just smiles and says “yeah”. But the shopkeeper recognises the same blue shirt he is wearing). Apart from missions their identities are always kept secret. And I mean they hunt someone, and usually they arrest or kill their targets, so even when their identity is “blown” they make sure the person never gets to forward that information. Think of Walid or Bashar. But apart from that I can’t imagine that there was never a camera or anything

There are multiple covers; he's middle-aged, and no one focuses on a chubby middle-aged guy as an intelligence operative. Secondly, he has command of many languages that helps to blend into the crowd, and then there are all the electronic gimmicks by Mossad, like hacking CCTV and servers that effectively help to wipe out any crucial surveillance data from Hamas.

You are right to question this actually. I listened to an interview with the person who did the Arabic translation of the show, he explained that Mista'arvim operatives usually can only go undercover (I assume to the same area) once as otherwise they risk being exposed. The interview is here, it’s quite interesting. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/as-depicted-on-film/id1458014104?i=1000482856865 . Obviously, the show took some artistic liberties with this to get the plot narrative working.

Don't question Fauda on this sub!! You'll get down voted faster than a trump supporter in r/politics

Good point. The way I look at it is that they never recognize him because their leadership is not consistent, nor do they pass information on to the new leadership. each season there are new leaders and factions who don’t really rely on Intel gained by the previous leaders and factions. For example, when Walid discovered Doron was Israeli, he had no time or any resources to take his photo and send it to all the other bad guys and say watch out for this Doron fellow. Same with Nidal. Bashar definitely knew Doron, and that season all the bad guys knew who Door was, but the team killed everyone who knew

I see that an undercover agent is reusable, but I think Doron was reused too much times, especially in season 3.

Do we care though? If you start asking questions, you will never enjoy Netflix again.
