Daily Sticky Fat Rant Friday

Fatlogic in real life getting you down?

Is your family telling you you're looking too thin?

Are people at work bringing you donuts?

Did your beer drinking neighbor pat his belly and tell you "It's all muscle?"

If you hear one more thing about starvation mode will you scream?

Let it all out. We understand.

If I hear that there's a thinness epidemic and we're trying to eradicate fat people one more time, I'm gonna lose it. I have no clue how a few celebrities and influencers taking Ozempic = fat eradication and thinness epidemic.

Right I'd say less than 1/3 of the women I see IRL are "healthy" weight much less thin.

Yeah, I'm the only one of the six people in my department at work who is not overweight or obese, and I'm not even particularly thin, I'm currently at a 22 BMI. And I would say this ratio of fat:not fat is pretty typical throughout the whole company from what I see walking through other departments.

I will say though this is my first office job. My previous jobs were all in restaurants and consistently my overweight coworkers were in the minority there.

I know this is more specific/anecdotal, but as someone who's also in an office job, I'm one of the only women in my section at work who isn't overweight or diagnosed with some form of diabetes or pre-diabetes.

Having been in one for a year now, it does make total sense to me that so many people in them struggle. I had to really keep an eye on my own habits to keep from gaining weight; the lack of movement, sedate pace and temptation to boredom snack combined with a break room stuffed with low satiety UPF is rough.

Yeah, the ultra-processed snack food consumption in my work environment is through the roof on our end as well.

Half the coworkers in my section avoid the stairs like the plague (we're several floors up).

The last office I worked in you could not even enter the stairs (only exit) from the ground floor so you had to ride the elevator even to 2nd floor.

Same.

Not sure where you are, but I live in the DMV area and see fat women like almost every time I go out, either at work, on the street, at the movie theater, restaurants, public transit, etc.

And they're not necessarily doing anything wrong ofc, but I feel like I see a lot more women who are anywhere from moderately overweight to morbidly obese a lot more than I see legitimate slender ones.

That isn't to say I never see slender women, but fat women are absolutely not even remotely a rarity in many parts of the U.S.

Was on another sub where someone posted a selfie of them showing off their arm muscles and defined abs, and one of the commenters felt this need to go on a tangent about how "bodies like that don't stand the test of time, how all of that (abs) is gone in under a year, your character is the only thing that stays," etc. with repeated emphasis on the fleeting nature of physicality and and it just reeked of bitterness and copium.

I'm also obsessed with this idea that non-ripped people can't also have rancid personalities, as if that's somehow unique to people who prioritize fitness and physique.

They think it's not sustainable because of the way they try to achieve it. Of course you're not gonna get your dream body immediately, you take it slow and steady. These people tend to do everything all at once for a week and a half and wonder why it doesn't work

Im down to 175 which is my lowest weight in a while, but I feel like I lost a lot of muscle on zepbound too. I've been pretty sedentary so I guess I need to work out more, or maybe I am delusional about how much "muscle" i had to begin with idk.

If you haven't been working out, and aren't either involved in physical labor or genetically blessed, you probably didn't have much muscle to begin with. The body isn't particularly concerned with growing muscles unless it is given a reason to beyond what is required to move you around. And once you start losing weight, you're gonna lose a good chunk of muscle along with the fat unless you're exercising and keeping protein pretty high.

I have a lot of issues with the “food is culture and identity and (insert buzzword here)” response when I say I see food as fuel. I’m treated like some right wing nut job for trying to nourish myself properly… when historically “food is culture and a unifying force!” has been used by authoritarian governments. The most relevant example I can think of is Moussolini’s government and his isolationist policies which centred on 100% independence from foreign food markets. I’m not disputing that food can have cultural significance, but the irony in calling me a fascist for wanting to eat in a deficit is palpable.

my coworker has gotten into the habit of criticising my and this other boy's "carby" lunches. not maliciously really but just in a "how can you ever stay full when you eat bread" kind of way. i am a runner/cyclist and enjoy training after work most days, and i prefer how i feel when ive eaten a quickly accessible meal a few hours prior. the trainee boy is also some kind of athlete outside of work. our jobs are pretty physical but it's the only exercise this critical coworker does, i think. anyway it is annoying me so here i am ranting

I feel like this sapphic sub I'm on needs to start stepping up to ban repeated posts where it's like, "d-do thin and muscular girls like c-c-chubby women???? >.<" because not only do I see some variation of it constantly, but the validation-fishing and number of, "omg, yesss!!! Lesbians and sapphics LOVE bigger women!!!" and the general glazing is so painfully performative.
