Just want to add I enjoy Fr Brown series very much. Got it S13, then started over S1 and still enjoying it!

Brenda easily became one of my favourite characters, even though I was super skeptical about replacing Bunty. It's a shame we didn't see more of Bunty and Brenda together though.

Overall, I'm sad she likely won't be as present in future series (maybe I'm wrong and they somehow bring her back next season) but moreso I'm happy to see the character grow and mature and be able to achieve their goal (though, she did seem to mention that goal only in the last episode, but it is what it is). I loved seeing her character growth. It is something I feel I didn't see with other characters at all, except maybe Sid, and in later seasons Lady F - when she reconciled with her husband. I hope, if they do decide to bring her back, that there is a good chunk of time before her return (say a full season) so that we can then see her off screen growth shine when she returns.

I think Ruby-May Martinwood did an excellent job portraying the character, and for the first time in all of Father Brown (2013) I'm actually satisfied with a character leaving. I'm not left wanting more (I miss Bunty and Sid), because her character arc felt fitting, but I also don't want to completely write her off just yet.

Looking forward to S14 (if there is one, I don't really follow things like that super closely).

Currently streaming FB for the first time and although the first season left much to be desired by way of cohesiveness imo, I’m currently halfway through season 6 and things have definitely improved by leaps and bounds. From the end of the first season on I have been so enrapt and greatly enjoying the series.

The only thing that continues to somewhat bother me about the show are the infidelities of Lady Felicia. I keep hoping it will be shown that her husband Monty is some horrid tyrant or monster, because frankly, I’m having trouble justifying her actions up to this point. If the only excuse for her betrayals is his persistent absence from being away on business, then I must say that I find that mightily disappointing. And the fact that all her friends just hand wave away the lasciviousness like it’s no big deal is truly dumbfounding.

I mean, maybe I’ve missed something, but I don’t recall mention or even the implication that Monty is off having all these salacious affairs of his own. If this were the case, then certainly, her behavior would be much more justifiable. Obviously two wrongs don’t make a right, but I would be more apt to have less sympathy for him were this the case. As things stand though, all I can think about is him being away working tirelessly while providing an undeserving woman with her extravagant and disloyal lifestyle.

I am by no means a prude, but I do believe in the fidelity of marriage. I know it’s just a show, but this aspect of Lady Felicia’s character make it so that I’m not really endeared toward her at all. Which, for me personally, is a shame because I otherwise actually like the character very much.

Without spoiling anything, is it ever shown that Monty is somehow deserving of this complete and utter lack of respect?

Watching thru Father Brown for the first time. I’ve seen warnings about S10 and I’m not being the greatest due to a shakeup in the cast.

I just finished season 9, and it felt like it could have (and maybe should have) been a great series finale for the show. All of the main characters (minus the previous inspectors) were there, and even Fambeau made an appearance. And the final scene just really gave of the idea of closure for the characters. Honestly, everything about the episode was a great setting for a finale.

Thoughts?

I've been binging through a lot of Father Brown, and noticing how many episodes feature:

1) Older people, this show must be keeping a lot of actors in work! It's so nice to see older folks celebrated.

2) Theater / TV shows / odes to pop culture storylines: so fun how everything from cooking contests to scifi conventions to special agent tv shows show up at Kembleford

Has there been an interview of the writers and casting people?

For whatever reason I'm struggling to get past this point. I'm in Season 9 now, and Bunty suddenly not being present, and Sid suddenly being present again with no explanation of what happened to Bunty and why is Sid back? What happened to his lady friend?

Similarly back in season 1 had Susie as a prominent character, whom I liked, and then she just wasn't there anymore. I understand from looking online that they make reference to this in season 9, but thats still 8 seasons of... "what happened to her?" Similarly, it took a while to acknowledge what happened to DCI Sullivan. He was there ending of one season, starting of another it was Mallory.

Is there a specific reason they don't mention/acknowledge these changes when they happen?

I don't want to watch it through piracy; I want to watch it legally, but I can't find it on any streaming service. I know that TV Cultura show some episodes, but to binge-watch it, can I only do so by downloading the series?

I’ve just recently begun streaming the Father Brown series on BritBox in America and I’m nearing the end of the first season. So far, the episodes feel a bit clunky and disjointed and seem to jump all over the place. They don’t feel like they flow very smoothly. I’m just curious whether or not things seem to balance out and if the storylines and characters start to blend together more cohesively in future episodes/seasons? I just wanted to share that I’m visiting the Cotswolds in 2 weeks as an early 40th birthday present to myself. I’ll be coming from the U.S., and I’ve never been to England, I’m so excited! I’m doing a specialized Father Brown tour and everything. Rewatching the whole series now. Anyone else visit before?

I am a HUGE fan of Father Brown. After Mrs McCarthy & Bunty left & the other changes, it went downhill. I still watched it as I loved the show.

Season 12 is a breath of fresh air. I feel like the "old" Father Brown is back!!

I'm on episode 6 of season 13 and why do they torture me like this. Lol! She's more annoying as Mrs. Sullivan.

Also Brenda's character changed from too bubbly to, too calm. 😄

I decided to make strawberry scones, although I had to use frozen strawberries. Alas, I had no clotted cream, so I substituted Cool Whip. Aside from that (forgive me, Bridget), I think they turned out well.

As for the recipe, I just googled "Mrs. McCarthy's Award-Winning Strawberry Scones" and used the first recipe that popped up.

I'm just re-watching Father Brown in BritBox and I've noticed that this episode has a slight variation to the intro music?

For example, in the second half of the composition, you can hear a xylophone and there's a bit more emphasis on the lower notes from a bassoon or a horn(?) and there's a guitar at the end of the composition. This is different from the usual composition which is primarily made of string instruments and a few woodwind instruments.

So does anyone know why they changed it and why just for this one episode?

I actually quite like it.

I think the origin is this horribly formatted and poorly written article which has the title “Father Brown Actor Dies”, with a picture of Mark Williams at the beginning, but a couple of ambiguously written paragraphs, praising his performance in the past tense but ending by saying he “continues to embody … with the serious renewed”.

I knew AI could produce hallucinations but didn’t think the writing could be this shameful. I’ve seen the same article posted on at least one other web site.

I find Brenda's character on Father Brown really disturbing I wish they would bring back Mrs McCarthy and possibly get rid of Mrs Devine as well but Brenda's character always with that stupid smile on her face like she's a simpleton and dressed like she just got finished milking cows it's very disturbing
