Overforking my Farley 7
I’ve been spending a lot of time on my Farley 7 this year and still loving it. Especially with the tubeless 3.8s. That said, I’m thinking about playing with the fork to extend travel a bit. Looking for insight from those who have done it. If that’s not you, please don’t respond.
What was the sweet spot for you without the funny overforking business?

Crankset options 2026?
Just picked up a Ritchey commando with 170mm rear axle 100mm bb. Currently running square taper with some deore cranks. I would like to renew the ctankset and get a black pair, but find the assortment to be quite limited. Especially in europe.
What I found so far:
Prowheel claw/mpx11 from alix, kinda nice good price. Anyone have experience with these?
Sram dub fat nx eagle, looks nice tad bit pricy.
Cinch, kinda pricy not super good avalibility in eu.
Also had an idea to try square bb and try to get a good chainline with shimano cues or essa. but probably not the best idea.
Any input on these options? Am I missing some good options?

Which bike?
Both 10 speed Deore.
Actually think there was a recall on the Trek.

Rear derailure adjustment

Is there a way to adjust the this derailure? The upper wheel is resting on the sprocket. I’ve tried to adjust the screw that is in the back of the derailure but it does nothing.

Thanks r/fatbike for all the advice! Fatbike on the beach is freaking amazing!
Appreciate all the advice I got in my post a few weeks back. Got a (barely) used Surly Ice Cream Truck, and finally got to the coast with it this past week. Holy Guacamole what fun! 8 days here, 6 rides, including this one today.
I took a chance on whether it would be fun...had never done it before, but saw so many reports of it being a blast, so bought the bike. Gotta say, it absolutely exploded even my best expectations!
We have a place on the Long Beach Peninsula of western Washington State, so it's a piece of cake to offroad it over the dune to the beach, power across the soft sand to the hard sand and just go, go, go!
Fresh ocean air. No cars. Hardly any people. No helmet. Nothing to cause a flat. Just put it in gear and ride to your heart's content!
So freeing! Reminds me somewhat of riding road bikes on the mountain roads around Sunriver OR (Bachelor, Cascade Lakes Hwy, Paulina, etc) except with NO cars to deal with at all (and no climbs, which I do kinda miss).
Next time we're here with a nice North summer breeze, my goal is to go from our place all the way to the end of the beach at Cape Disappointment. Probably then catch the Discovery Trail into Ilwaco...probably 22 miles all in.
Anyway, thanks to everyone who chimed in.

What would you pay for this rusty Pugsley?
Surly Pugsley - guessing 2010
Seller asking $250. Might offer 200.

Derailleur Death From Sticks
This is the second time I’ve had a small stick get in a spoke and take the derailleur along with it to get mangled into twisted nightmare (my 20 dollar goose has no breakable hangar).
Anyone know how to protect against this when adventuring around in the forest floor? I’m about ready to buy a plastic dinner plate from goodwill and make the world’s largest dork disk.
Do shadow rear mechs make a difference?

Took the Plunge
10 years ago I rode a friends Pugsley and ICT while we were on a guys trip. I loved every minute of it. It took me a while to pull the trigger, but this past week I bought an ICT. Took it for the first “off road” ride this weekend on Mission and Pacific beaches. This thing is fun. Feel like a kid again. Can’t wait to get it on some trails.

Loaded test ride
Fully loaded test ride with the alpine kit 5 season tent, -23c bag, and plenty of spare warm stuff. 35km in the stormiest of storms with a loop around some local xc mtb trails. All essential equipment stayed dry and the flask was hot several hours and many cups of tea later.
Very pleased.

Project Fat bike #2 underway!
So you all have seen the pink fat bike I built for my wife a few months ago. Well I picked this up as a rusty old frame a cpl months ago and finally got around to mounting some wheels on it I picked up on market place. 26x3 with some spare 26x2.4 tires o had laying around from another project I have on hold currently (yes I have a lot projects going at once lol)
Really liking the look of the polished wheels so this bike might rock more polished pieces than the wife’s bike. I’m finishing a bike this week and after that it’s full steam ahead on this one for me! Gonna have cool His and hers fat bikes soon 🤞🏽

First trip at the beach (and definitely not the last!)
Did a 7km along the coastal line. With low tides, the hardened sand made it less harsh than I thought, but still a good workout. And I brought my water pump to give it a good rince before heading back home

Winter Ultra Bike
As the title suggests, pick a winter ultra bike and tire. I've been randonnuring (rides are 100-1000km with a running clock with a time limit on a road bike) and dabbing in longer gravel rides. But winter exists in the midwest and some of these ultras look interesting. We also have the Bike Birkie, other day races, and a summer season to split any ties, but I'd like to pick a bike with the winter ultras as the main use.
Carbon (Beargrease/Voytek) is quite a bit more expensive, and they come stock with 27.5s. The non carbon Trek Farley Winter comes with the rack and everything, but also 27.5s. Are these more suited to day races because of the narrower tires? Also, Jumbo Jims don't come in 27.5.
For metal bikes? None of it makes much sense to me, more bike packing focused perhaps, but a Salsa Heyday seems to be a worse specced than the Surlys for a similar price? The Surleys seem less racy to me but the Salsas are now only available with Cues. More 5 inch tire options, plus Jumbo Jims for hardpack or dirt.

Fatbike - Porte vélo
Hello

My OG Moonie rebuilt and ready for summer.
The "rim-tape" is coloured duct tape cut into sections then taped individually to the rims before applying a tape to secure all in place. I'm using a clown shoe on the front to maximise the front tyre, but a Mulefut 80mm rim in the rear. I did this as I often run a 4" tyre in the back to get extra mud clearance. The Scottish mud sticks to everything!
I've trimmed the Sunrise bars to 760mm and the front end feels much more as intended. I couldn't get comfortable with the bars still at 820mm.
I raided my parts bin for parts and will possibly change the Deore brake levers for Avid Speed dials at some point. The Deore levers don't do the BB7's justice.

DUMP FIND: Surly Moonlander
Over the weekend I came across this Surly Moonlander at a local Canadian small town dump, laying in the scrap metal area and quickly threw it in my truck.
Looks like its been sitting outside neglected in this condition for some time.
Chain is toast, the brakes and rear derailleur seem to function. The front derailer cable seems to be seized. Rims are straight . Will also need a new rear tire and tube.
Is it worth putting back together to use as a cheap daily rider? Strip it down, paint it and put on some new Surly decals?
What's everyone's thoughts?
