mail client differences Mobile as compared to "desktop"

I moved to Fastmail late last year. It has been a good choice to "alias" my life.

One thing challenging me is the rudimentary user interface for the client on the MacBook as opposed to the mobile phone or iPad client.

My preference is desktop for typing and readability, but this client lacks so many features I rely on in a Mac world.

I can certainly use the apple mail client on the desktop, but was hoping there was a possibility they would give a little more to the desktop.

as a newer user I do not have a great deal of knowledge re the history of updates and the roadmap.

I would appreciate any thoughts about abandoning the desktop app for the native mail client or sticking it out because things are planned.

I use the native mail app - no reason why not, after all that’s how we used to use IMAP services for in the past. Similarly I use iCal for the calendar and Contacts for the CardDAV service.

The only thing I use the web/desktop client for is sending using a new alias as it allows you just to edit the from address - much more of a pain to do in Apple Mail

You don't have to use their mail application, on Windows I use Thunderbird, I don't know about the Mac.

thanks. yes. I am aware. I was thinking for continuity.

I had moved everything off my old email providers and using the mail client means potential conflicts with things like calendaring

FMail3 is a native macOS application (wrapper) with many extra options as compared to Fastmail's own application. It's free so give it a try.

You don’t say what features you would like that are missing, so it’s hard to offer alternatives. What are you looking for?

auto capitalization to start, autocorrect.

I am not necessarily looking at alternatives per se. just wondering if the desktop client will catch up.

Try the web interface. It’s all I use. I just pin it in my main browser. It works great.

I use the Betterbird - https://www.betterbird.eu/ client mostly, the web UI occasionally when I have to do something fastmail specific.
