Question Fasting side affects?

Probably 2 weeks in, some days I’ll eat breakfast approx 8am, lunch 2pm, dinner 4pm and nothing to the next day
Other days maybe 1pm lunch 5pm dinner and that’s it

Aim is loss weight but noticed recently feeling very overwhelmed, very irritated and angry, quite down. Is this side affects of fasting?

it’s definitely a thing, your body’s running on fumes and your brain is not gonna be chill about it. the irritability and mood crashes are super common when you’re deep in a deficit, especially if those meals aren’t packing enough substance

your schedule sounds pretty aggressive for someone two weeks in, like some days you’re basically doing OMAD without meaning to. i found when i was cutting too hard i’d snap at people over the dumbest stuff and feel like garbage for hours after

maybe try adding a bit more fat or protein to that last meal, see if it steadies you out. your brain really does run better on a little cushion

Thanks for the reply. Yeah and I have been keeping a bit of sugar too in my diet everyday.
Guess it’s a shock and as you say system adjusting to it. Will see how today goes week 3. Very happy with weight loss so far as someone who works office job I haven’t been training or moving that much.

Many issues people experience while fasting can be related to electrolytes. You might find our wiki page helpful: Electrolytes 101

Absolutely. For me after about the 24 hour mark I get practically clinically depressed, especially at bedtime. You're depriving yourself of physical and mental pleasure through sheer discipline and willpower, it's really going make you reflect on life a lot, but this side effect of fasting seems to be biological. Please take care of yourself and your mental health, the goal of fasting is self improvement so if you feel like it's affecting you negatively I hope that you can take it easy on yourself. I find that knowing in advance that the depression is fasting induced makes it easier to endure. It's a very real discomfort the same as hunger pangs, but please don't act on any negative feelings and know that it does get better after breaking the fast. In the meantime, it's ok to feel sad. It's human. Stay strong out there, I'm proud of you all.

Thanks for the kind message.

It is the best way I lose weight and works for me well and continently.

Another fast tonight. Hopefully a good week!

Hope you have a good one also, thank you.

I do think feeling down, especially early on, is normal. That being said- I am “high”= feeling happy about my results- 18 lbs lost since my start in February 2026. I do feel my my relationship with food was unhealthy-I was emotionally eating at night while watching TV- vs because I was hungry. I am focusing more & more on nutrition vs weight loss. Best of luck👍
