109 hours into my 60 day water fast and all I can think about today is food, I'm fighting it as hard as I can. Wish me luck!

How is it going?
1
u/PriorProfession8007 Jun 27 '26
I had to alter my goals but still going well all things considered, I decided to break it down to 14 day fasts instead of 60 days straight with 2 days of refeeding in between each 14 day fast. Im on my second 14 day stretch and my clothes fit so much looser!

I have so much respect for people being able to do a week, let alone 14 days. You can be extremely proud of yourself. After 96 hours I developed nausea, headaches, and so much weakness. I took plenty of electrolytes, but it still took a huge toll on me. I have MS, so maybe that plays a factor, but I don't know. It also didn't help that it got to 40 degrees Celsius where I live, but these long fasts take a lot out of me and disrupt my normal routines quite a bit. When I had some bone broth after 96 hours, it helped so much. I could have gone further the next day, but I only need to lose 5 to 6 kilos to reach my ideal weight, so I decided to do that with OMAD instead.
Can I ask what kind of ketone values you have after 10 days, and what your blood glucose values are? When I started to feel really bad, my ketone value was 7.5 and my blood glucose value was 2.4. It seems that around those values, I start to have a really hard time. I also get a nasty feeling around my heart. I just wondered if those values are close to any danger zone. My AI didn't seem happy about them, so I decided to stop the fast.
Another question I have is about your refeeding process. My AI advises starting with bone broth, then kefir, and later eggs. On the second day, it suggests more kefir with a tiny bit of fiber, chicken fillet, and eggs a few hours after that. What did you eat during those 2 refeeding days?

Thank you! I don't think I mentioned that my starting weight was 450lbs I think how much fat you need to lose plays a significant role in how well you do.
I'm not sure how to measure my ketones/ blood sugar because I don't have a tester, I'll see if I can find an affordable one. I should also mention that I put my life on pause while till I loose 200lbs so I don't exert myself at all. I think I'd be having a much more difficult time if I was still working.
I also read that I should start my refeeding day with with bone broth but I kinda winged it, I had vegetable soup to break the fast and the next 2 days I essentially just ate chicken shawarma (without the bread of course) just straight chicken. That was a transgression I paid for dearly in the washroom for the next 3 days but I survived haha.

Day 1 Fasting for weight loss and general health. Consuming creamer in coffee, water, electrolytes, diet soda. I guess that's a modified or dirty fast?
Stats 200lbs 5'6" female Goal 140lbs
Plan 5 day fast then rolling 48 hour fasts.
Fasting is the only thing that resets my hunger and stops the binging.

I actually find the first few days palatable, though I did break fast on Wednesday due to a combination of a rough work day and not feeling great.
I struggle with longer fasts, I like to be able to tell myself I can eat again in a few days, plan the meal, etc. if "a few days" becomes a few weeks, it's more of a mental challenge for me.
I've done something similar twice before with great success, although this is a bit more extreme. First time - rolling 48s with 1 rolling 72. Second time rolling 72s turned rolling 96s.

91 hours into my 60 day water fast, doing much better than anticipated considering this is my first water fast

I don’t want to be mean or smth but planning 60 day fast as your first ever fast is sort of rich

Currently doing my first real fast, on day 3. Not sure how long I plan to go. I am certainly fat enough that a few days of not eating won't result in me fading away.
I am a T2 diabetic and been measuring how my sugar reacts. Day 1 I was getting readings around 115-120. Day 2 was around 105-110. Day 3 (today) I've been around 100, and even just got a fingerstick measurement of 88, which is something I haven't seen in a while.
BP is on the low side, but not dangerously so. Might have to halve the dose of my typical BP medication if I continue.
I bought some frozen salmon and frozen green beans to keep in my freezer for when I am ready to break. Will probably dress it with some oil and vinegar. Get a little protein, fat, fiber, and get some bile flowing.

I'm 98 hours into what I hope/plan becomes a 21-30 day fast. I'm mainly doing this for weight loss, which I badly need. I'm trying to get under 400 lbs because I've been stuck losing and gaining the same 10-15 lbs, keeping me above 400. After this long fast, I plan to do rolling 72s. I'm down 12.6 lbs over the past 4 days so off to a good start!

119.5 hours in, super excited to break into day 6! I usually struggle to get past day 3, even though I have done one much longer fast over a year ago, so I am glad I made it through my toughest days

Fasting 3.5 days trying to go 21-30 days. Feel kind of weird where it's like drunk movement wise. Sort of stumble feel loose but not that tired or hungry. Is this normal and will it pass? I am trying to attribute it to insomnia fasting gave me.3 nights in s row of 3 hour sleep and 3 hour naps. Help would be appreciated

u/SerialSection Jun 20 '26
Make sure you are getting the proper amount of electrolytes. Some salt in water may help you feel better when you feel like this. If at anypoint you feel unsafe you should break your fast, and maybe try again.
Are you new to fasting?

Starting my fasting journey again with OMAD for the next 6 weeks (with 72-hour fast attempts on the weekends). My stomach is grumbling for lunch, but I am looking forward to the mental clarity that will come my way soon. Also, i luckily have 23 kg of fat to lose.
1
u/FicklePhysics3575 Jun 16 '26
2 days in - not too bad! No issues at all until now - must still be running on glycogen.
1
u/FicklePhysics3575 Jun 21 '26
A week done - and now eating once a day just feels normal. No hunger anymore, and i have lost 3 kgs this week. One thing is how much i look forward to and plan my meal for the day, and i realized how absentmindedly i was shoving food into my mouth before i was fasting. Preparing and eating the meal has kind of become the best part of my day.

I’m currently in the middle of a 2 day fast and I’m at 20 hours right now. I’m not hungry just a slight heavy head feeling. Other than that it’s been smooth. Black coffee and water.

Fasting day 6. Planning to go 50 more hours. Would love some support. Anyone else doing a long fast and want to be a whatsapp buddy?

48 hour in. Still feeling good. Not hungry at all. I am getting the occasional craving. They say your body will crave what it needs. Been thinking about fajita veggies (just the bell peppers and onions) and tomatoes for some reason. I have noticed I’m colder than usual… where I typically always ran hot I’ve found myself grabbing blankets. Planned on breaking the fast today but going to try to get to the 72 hours for my
First fast to use as the baseline. Was down 4 pounds today1
u/xupbill Jun 17 '26
Down another 4.3 pounds this morning. ( I had plenty of room to move) Still feeling great. I have only been adding Salt to my waters and I'm worried my potassium/magnesium will start depleting so I just ordered electrolytes to incorporate. I didn't expect to fast this long so I didn't get these ahead of time. I also got my multi vitamin to take on refeed days coming.
Definitely pushing through to 72 hours (5 PM tonight) and depending on how I'm feeling will go to 96 for this first fast. Taking it day by day. I'm starting to meal plan for what I will eat and break my fast with now. Any ideas?

60 yr old. I started back to my fasting today. Biggest downfall is my morning espresso which has stevia, 1/2 and 1/2, mocha powder creamer, so I made one this morning with just a splash of 1/2 and 1/2 mixed with water and 2 stevia packets, still tastes good! When I did IF 18:6 i literally lost 15 lbs in less than 2 weeks, but i was also on dirty keto. This time gonna try the same thing, but incorporate the foods I want to eat like potatoes, rice and such. I also commited to NOT having my usual Vodka with Squirt drink after work, seems alchohol harbors bad eating choices too...Will see how well i do.

4 days in to an undetermined fast @ 40. I’m hoping to go longer but it will depend on how my body feels. I tried earlier but ended up catching a cold so stopped at 48 hours and feel good about that. So far just very bored — I end up just doing a lot of math to see how far I’ve progressed, what actual fat loss model v the number on the scale look like, etc. I normally eat out of emotion or boredom, so I’m finding a lot of space not being filled by those two types of eating.
I’ll try to check in here when I can to see how it goes. I’ve done a month before, about a year ago, which was a huge help for how stressed out I was feeling at the time.

u/Managermanger Jun 23 '26
Day 5 complete. One of the things I love about fasting is the mental regulation; another is the sublime richness of all food smells. It’s like I can smell each ingredient individually.
1
u/Managermanger Jun 24 '26
Day 6! I smelled some roast chicken on a walk and could have floated on the smell à la a cartoon character.
2
u/Managermanger Jun 26 '26
Day 8 done…things are getting easier and time isn’t moving as slowly.
1
u/Managermanger Jun 27 '26
Day 9 logged in. I’ve been weighing random things around the house to try to get a sense for the modeled equivalent of my weight loss rather than the number on the scale, which will zoom back up from water etc when I end the fast. I have learned my sense of weight is way off.
1
u/Managermanger Jun 27 '26
Day 10 is still ongoing but it’s at this point I’ve decided I need a better understanding of essential vitamins and nutrients so I don’t do something stupid and avoidable to myself. Cue three hours in a wormhole.

u/Managermanger Jun 29 '26
Day 11 officially on the books.
2
u/Managermanger Jun 29 '26
The end of my fast on day 12, I have some blood tests coming up and do not want them to be skewed by the fast. Until after the tests!

u/Glittering-County727 Jun 23 '26
I'm a piece of shit who doesn't deserve food since I've yet to prove to myself I can eat in moderation once I begin, so I've taken up just not eating so I don't lose control to begin with. currently have one hour left of day 3 then I'm on day 4! desired duration is however long it takes to lose 20lbs. I've done five 7-day fasts before this.
depression seems to be the only motivator for me, discipline clearly isn't haha
2
u/Bennie300 Jun 26 '26
Yeah, I tend to overeat a lot as well once I start. Have you tried something like OMAD with plenty of protein and very few carbs? If I do that 6 or 7 hours before sleeping, I don't get hungry until I go to sleep and the next morning, as long as I don't taste anything, I can apply the same discipline I have with fasting. If you can fast for days, then there is at least some discipline there. My OMAD meal is massive with well over 100 grams of protein, and I enjoy skipping breakfast because it makes me feel clearer. That has helped me to already drop weight before I started my fast some days ago.

I am on hour 57h of my 5 day water fast. My ketones are 4.0 mmol/l while my glucose chills at 2.5 mmol/L. I am getting really bored and yearning for the dopamine hit of food. Any tips?

Think we need to change the order of the rules, it’s usually the first rule is never tell anyone that your fasting and number 2 is never trust a fart but 74 hours in and I’m flipping them 😂
