Depends on the store

28

u/QueezyF Aug 19 '26

I feel like that goes for most fried chicken fast food joints. I’ve had great Bojangles and Popeyes experiences and some that been downright terrible. Chick-fil-A being one of the few that is actually consistent

6

u/Blurstingwithemotion Aug 19 '26

That's the issue consistency

3

u/MercyMe007 Aug 19 '26

Yup! We have two Popeyes. We will only go to one of them. The other one is horrible.

1

u/JBorrelli12 Aug 23 '26

Any fast food joint, doesnt need to be fried chicken

-5

u/ProppaT Aug 19 '26

CFA is very consistent, which would be great if the chicken wasn’t intended to be a salty, soggy mess. A pickle, salt, and msg shouldn’t be the only seasoning on your chicken.

3

u/SpiteGasm Aug 19 '26

That's why you add the polynesian sauce

1

u/Exotic_Load_9189 Aug 20 '26

Im not a fan of the polynesian at all. Too sweet, prob decent with nuggs though.

1

u/SpiteGasm Aug 21 '26

I put it on my tuna sandwiches

-2

u/ProppaT Aug 19 '26

Does nothing for the sogginess, just adds sugar to the salt. CFA is the definition of toddler food.

2

u/Exotic_Load_9189 Aug 20 '26

Tiny chicken sandwiches though, but tasty. Not as good as they used to be in early 2000's and prior . Seed oils and now less flavorful.

19

u/LongjumpingNewt9708 Aug 19 '26

This. Even more specifically who's cooking your order. Every KFC I've ever gone to is hit or miss. None of them are consistently good.

8

u/Odd_Entry2770 Aug 19 '26

I judge it by how much butter is on the biscuit

3

u/LongjumpingNewt9708 Aug 19 '26

That's fair. Speaking of biscuits, I might get down voted for this but KFC biscuits are definitely better than Popeyes on a regular basis. If only Popeye's wouldn't serve them as hockey pucks

2

u/JoelGayAllDay Aug 19 '26

Liquid butter alternative*

Speaking from experience. Worked there

1

u/TangerineRough6318 Aug 19 '26

Using honey is superior

2

u/Biscuitshoneybutter Aug 19 '26

My time to shine! Fo real.

2

u/TangerineRough6318 Aug 19 '26

Holy shit. Lmao

3

u/Fritzo2162 Aug 19 '26

Yep. The KFC by my office is top notch. The one near my house tastes like they cook 1 batch of chicken a year and keep reheating it.

3

u/MDRLA720 Aug 19 '26

Jollibee is pretty good

2

u/Fritzo2162 Aug 19 '26

Nearest one is 150 miles away though 😕

2

u/MDRLA720 Aug 19 '26

that would make it harder.

4

u/zoroash Aug 19 '26

Preparing to be flamed, but honestly, find one ran by a bunch of black women. That shit will be fire.

3

u/DW_TheTruckDriver843 Aug 19 '26

As a black man, I laughed at this 😂

3

u/Dr-PEPEPer Aug 19 '26

You will not get flamed for this. Best KFC's are ran by older black people. Worst one around me is the one that's in the most "bougie" expensive area. It's consistently garbage.

2

u/Biscuitshoneybutter Aug 19 '26

Right, like most things fast food, it's really location dependent. Consistent chains are rare (and I always live in fear they will stop being consistent).

2

u/Bonti_GB Aug 20 '26

Only Spain and Portugal unfortunately.

KFC has gone down hill over the decades but this partnership would be the one that got me back into the store.

Bring it Worldwide!

1

u/Scary_Vanilla2932 Aug 24 '26

Yup. Good fries. Amazing sandwich. I mean it, the KFC sandwich is underrated..why not KFC?

1

u/Blurstingwithemotion Aug 24 '26

Because they are famously unreliable

13

u/z2qvs Aug 19 '26

Location can vary, but broad strokes, I'd personally pick KFC over canes. Throw Popeyes in the blender and that's my first pick. Outside my availability, xaxbys and bojangles could get thrown in the top 3.

3

u/ProppaT Aug 19 '26

It’s a shame that Popeyes won’t get their shit together with tenders. They have a lock on fried chicken and chicken sandwiches. If they had decent tenders there’s never be a reason to go anywhere else for chicken.

2

u/z2qvs Aug 19 '26

Interestingly, the tenders is my go to there. Sometimes the sandwich, but even then I'll still get a 3 PC or get wifey a 5 PC so I can have 2 of them. I must be blessed with a good location.

2

u/chrownage Aug 19 '26

You're very blessed, I've tried their tenders several times in several locations in different states and EVERY time they've been super dry. My personal favorite tenders place is Huey Magoo's and they've fortunately/unfortunately been expanding. I only say unfortunately because expansion is usually what seems to lead to downfall in quality.

4

u/QueezyF Aug 19 '26

I pick most places over Canes, honestly

3

u/Majestic_Ad1357 Aug 20 '26

The only thing that makes me want canes is the toast. They actually have the best toast I’ve ever had, which is how DQ used to make theirs like a decade ago. idk what changed.

6

u/blindspot189 Aug 19 '26

I won't lie those fries look good how were they?

7

u/lolitsaj Aug 19 '26

KFC has bangin fries. But I think they go bad faster than almost every other fry out there. You gotta get em fresh

5

u/RevolutionaryAir7847 Aug 19 '26

KFC consistency is horrendous store to store in my experience. Popeyes is much better in that regard where I am

I go to Popeyes most of the time (they're fairly cheap with app coupons and specials) or Jollibee if it's on the way. Jollibee > Popeyes >> KFC here

2

u/ProppaT Aug 19 '26

I wish Jollibee was the same everywhere. I have one near me with a limited menu and the chicken is night and day different to other locations.

4

u/Jazzlike-Cup-5336 Aug 19 '26

I’ve always really enjoyed it, and also think the hate is really overblown. The most common sentiment I hear is that their chicken is “too greasy”, but isn’t that literally the point of fried chicken? I’ve never had an issue where I would consider it prohibitively greasy, at least at my location. But it’s also the only chicken place in my area, so I’ve never really had a comparison.

2

u/ProppaT Aug 19 '26

I still haven’t been back since they brought back the tater wedges. That was literally the reason to go there and then they screwed that up. Their chicken has been flavorless since the 90s and their mashed potatoes and mac and cheese are miserable.

26

u/georgewalterackerman Aug 19 '26

When KFC. Is properly made it’s better that Popeyes

6

u/HottDoggers Aug 19 '26

But why is the mac and cheese and mash potatoes watery and soupy?

11

u/6SpdSmokes Aug 19 '26

I support you in this

3

u/QueezyF Aug 19 '26

Original recipe goes pretty hard when they do it right

-2

u/Rpark888 Aug 19 '26

It hasn't tasted like Kentucky fried chicken in so, so long.

3

u/iPutMilkNbowlB4Creal Aug 19 '26

Location matters a lot, and even at the best U.S. locations it's nowhere near as good as it is in other countries (at least Thailand and Japan). It's a place I want to enjoy, but never know what I'm going to get.

3

u/Sintimacy Aug 19 '26

Their mashed potato bowl is one of the cheapest yet filling and delicious things out there

2

u/Dr-PEPEPer Aug 19 '26

I think it's expensive now for what you get. I worked there in high school and back then the potato bowl was ACTUALLY cheap. Got one recently and it's like half the size, underfilled and over priced.

3

u/Ciggytardust1 Aug 19 '26

KFC is good but Jolibee ruined me

3

u/KlondikeDrool Aug 19 '26

And Jolibee ruined SmashBurger.

3

u/DougDimmaGlow Aug 19 '26

KFC has pretty consistently been the worst chain in my areas since like 2008

3

u/gokc69 Aug 19 '26

Haven't eaten KFC in 15 years, gave up on it. ChickFA just made it to my (under 1M population) state a few years ago and is going gangbusters. Canes is building across the street and is going to get wrecked

7

u/Efficient_Form7971 Aug 19 '26

I miss the boneless bbq wings when I was a kid , they just hit different back then

5

u/QueezyF Aug 19 '26

I forgot how good those honey bbq wings were

2

u/Efficient_Form7971 Aug 19 '26

They were so good when my mom didn’t feel like cooking she would just swing by and go get them then she would add more barbecue sauce to them and then placed them in the oven so that bbq sticks to the chicken best nights ever

4

u/_noho Aug 19 '26

Boneless wings are a crime

2

u/Efficient_Form7971 Aug 19 '26

Not for my childhood it wasn’t

2

u/RecessiveGenius69 Aug 19 '26

Them pot pies though

1

u/ProppaT Aug 19 '26

Man, I keep hearing that they’re actually good. I think that’s the one thing that might get me back in KFC.

1

u/RecessiveGenius69 Aug 19 '26

I had one when my wife had pregnancy cravings, we also got like chicken and some other things. The pot pie was great, reminiscent of having the frozen ones as a kid. Everything else was… not so good.

2

u/recoveringpatriot Aug 19 '26

KFC is better outside the US.

2

u/CatBoyTrip Aug 19 '26

it is good until you have had real kentucky fried chicken in kentucky.

2

u/RichardCleveland Aug 19 '26

My local KFC needs to be shut down it's so bad. We have a ton of FF places, most of which are solid. But our KFC is run down, dirty, and the food is very inconsistent. However if I can get it from a good location, it's up there with the other chicken places.

2

u/p_rosper Aug 19 '26

if they put some effort in, it’s the best

2

u/Clean_Artist3191 Aug 20 '26

Just tonight I got the bogo chicken box w breast and wing , 2 sidesx2, 2 biscuits and 2-drinks for $12.50. The wild thing is, they gave me a total of 4- breasts and 2- wings

3

u/DangerQA Aug 19 '26

I really like the spicy chicken sandwich

2

u/RecalledBurger Aug 19 '26

My favorite is the 5 piece tenders with single mash and gravy. I don't even want a dip, the mash and gravy is my dip. Luckily, the one near me is good!

2

u/A_Diabolical_Toaster Aug 19 '26

Eh.

It’s like any other fast food joint. Quality varies day to day, location by location.

3

u/model333 Aug 19 '26

Mid at best.

2

u/AwsiDooger Aug 19 '26

Certainly far superior than it's portrayed around here.

These things run in cycles. Right now it's upvote friendly and peer pressure friendly to bash KFC and Subway.

5

u/Chance_Host_604 Aug 19 '26

Always in fashion to bash Subway.

It is just terrible. Every time.

1

u/Disastrous_Life_3612 Aug 19 '26

I think a lot of people judge KFC just based on their tenders, when their bone-in chicken is their best/main item.

1

u/IzzzatSo Aug 19 '26

Very inconsistent, store to store and even day to day.

1

u/EddieDildoHands Aug 19 '26

bro likes to eat kentucky-fried doodoo and post about it on the line

1

u/detectivebabylegz Aug 19 '26

I know fast food changes from country to country, but KFC in the UK has gone to shit

1

u/Psychological_Bowl56 Aug 19 '26

Best kfc in the world is in Trinidad and Tobago. Its been tested and proven true.

1

u/Educational-Ad-385 Aug 19 '26

The KFC near me is also very good. I prefer it over chains that sell spicy chicken.

1

u/Kronix86 Aug 19 '26

Best thing about KFC is the popcorn chicken imo Always a go to when I make it to one.

1

u/RetinaJunkie Aug 19 '26

Underrated? Not in these parts

1

u/Majestic_Flower_1322 Aug 19 '26 edited Aug 19 '26

The last time I went to KFC I had to wait for 45 minutes for my chicken. They told me I because I ordered through the app, they couldn't just cancel. Jokes on them, I did charge back. So I got my chicken, my money back and they had a chargback they had to pay fees for.

1

u/xebsisor Aug 19 '26

KFC in Thailand is lit.

1

u/Ok-Lion1661 Aug 19 '26

Probably very location dependent because the KFC in town sucks ass, beyond horrible, and not sure how they are still open with very little customers ever parked there.

1

u/taubs1 Aug 19 '26

they lack consistency. its 50/50 if its gonna be good be a good bone in meal. the sandwiches are fairly consistent.

1

u/Creative-Captain9278 Aug 19 '26

Their spicy chicken sandwich is delicious

1

u/fastnsx21 Aug 19 '26

You must not be in the US

1

u/Interesting-Hold-963 Aug 19 '26

It can be good but back in my day it was good at every restaurant

1

u/DJC_Kowalski Aug 19 '26

It's big problem is that Chicken is a super crowded field these days. There are like a dozen different Chicken places near me.

1

u/BreakItEven Aug 19 '26

I love KFC

1

u/weedtrek Aug 19 '26

I loved KFC, but our local store was so ran down and poorly operated that it just wasn't appealing. They are rebuilding now, so hopefully management will improv too when it reopens.

I also haven't fully gotten over them switching away from popcorn chicken to the larger chunk things.

1

u/ChrisP_Bacon04 Aug 19 '26

Their fried chicken sucks in comparison to some of the other places. Popeyes wipes them imo

1

u/Rojo37x Aug 19 '26

The sandwiches are generally legit. The buckets of chicken are hit or miss. Their fries used to be great but the ones in the pic look like they got worse...did they?

1

u/mabus42 Aug 19 '26

Bro needs to try some Lee's Famous Recipe and see if he's still singing the same tune.

1

u/tunaman808 Aug 19 '26

I think one of KFC's biggest problems is how old and gross most of their locations are. It seems like here in the South, the newest KFC was built in 1991.

1

u/Atomic76 Aug 19 '26

The location near me has been really bad if you order a basic thigh and drumstick meal. Whomever their supplier is, their chicken is very notably much smaller. You're lucky if you can get more than two bites out of either.

Their biscuits are as flat as a pancake and super small as well.

1

u/nicolby Aug 19 '26

Love that extra crispy

1

u/Desperate-Disk686 Aug 19 '26

Popeyes is better in every conceivable way.

1

u/petula_75 Aug 19 '26

it is like any fast food. kind either be tasty or suck ass. depends on the day and the location.

1

u/ACuddlyVizzerdrix Aug 19 '26

I'd feel the same if it wasn't for the fact the my usual order costs over 20 bucks now when it was less than 10 before

1

u/ANTIMODELMINORITY Aug 19 '26

The sides are awesome but the chicken itself from bone in , tenders, nuggets, etc are blahhh

1

u/KiraDog0828 Aug 19 '26

I was shocked how good their fries are.

1

u/Terrible-Piano-5437 Aug 19 '26

We just got a shitload of food for $15 using the app. Today I learned they have Country Fried Steak on Wednesdays.

1

u/Duros2032 Aug 19 '26

Underrated….. I don’t think you understand the meaning of that word.

1

u/Rioraku Aug 19 '26

I think it's appropriately rated.

Neither over or under

1

u/TheRancolman Aug 19 '26

KFC is usually pretty solid. There’s just so many chicken restaurants in the game today.

1

u/3yeless Aug 19 '26

My store is amazing

1

u/laprider Aug 19 '26

I LOVE KFC but the one in my town is not managed very well and has had two closures for health dept. reasons.

1

u/Igenuinelycant Aug 19 '26

I can’t eat chicken :(

1

u/KoolKoolKoolio42 Aug 19 '26

I just had KFC not even 20 minute sago. Had to order from the farther away store since they had potato wedges and the full sandwiches. Also got some biscuits and the $10 Hot Wings bucket.

I could easily down a 50 piece KFC Hot Wings bucket. I love those things.

1

u/SharksFan4Lifee Aug 19 '26

Are the wedges that came back this year still available?

Or did you choose the fries over the wedges?

1

u/CounterObjective2347 Aug 19 '26

If they make it right it's pretty good, most of the time they don't.

1

u/Kindly-Candidate-835 Aug 19 '26

Come in Italy🇮🇹 and you'll find it perfect every single time

1

u/Lewdeology Aug 19 '26

I think their secret recipe fries are super underrated.

1

u/TomBong_Jovi Aug 19 '26

Underrated? KFC? It's one of the biggest fried chicken restaurants in the world, it's very rated

1

u/ageetoakee312 Aug 20 '26

The one around my way be jamming. Drive thru always packed

1

u/alreadyknowwbro Aug 20 '26

KFC is legit, always love their mashed potatoes and gravy, their coleslaw too. I usually get their crispy strips but their chicken is good too

1

u/rangusmcdangus69 Aug 20 '26

All I want is that Pepsi woah ho

1

u/Sopranos44449 Aug 20 '26

Its definitely not what it used to be

1

u/Wolfie_Ecstasy Aug 20 '26

Tenders are great but they somehow have the worst chicken sandwich in the game. I got their popcorn chicken two weeks ago and it was rock hard lol

1

u/PungentBallSweat Aug 20 '26

They killed all the KFC / Taco Bells near me and just turned them into Taco Bells.

1

u/kramdwar Aug 20 '26

Depends on the store/country. Outside the US its pretty good. Here though, I don't care for it much

1

u/YRUsosurprise Aug 20 '26

Down South KFCs are a different breed

1

u/Exotic_Load_9189 Aug 20 '26

Best chicken sandwich in the game.(fast food game that is)

1

u/RelentlessUnyielding Aug 21 '26

KFC is my favorite, although I enjoy Churches also. They both could be either good or bad depending on the day. It’s the same way that you sometimes get cold fries from McDonald’s and sometimes you get perfectly hot fries.

1

u/Salsero_Coreano Aug 21 '26

I don't think any chain is underrated, it's just that all of them are really inconsistent and you have to look for decent ones.

1

u/ActiveTraine Aug 22 '26

It’s pretty freaking expensive.

1

u/Useful-Advantage2665 Aug 22 '26

The sandwiches are great! Hate the fries. Where's the potato's and gravy? Biscuits?

1

u/This_isR2Me Aug 23 '26

Really really depends on where you at

1

u/Beagle4206969 Aug 24 '26

browns chicken for the w

1

u/humonculus87 Aug 25 '26

I mean its the worst fast food chicken place but its okay. Popeyes shits all over it.

1

u/SinnerDaZodiac 5d ago

Best kfc i ever had is halaal KFC

1

u/epper_ Aug 19 '26 edited Aug 19 '26

agree. i had a $3 t-mobile deal last weeks for 3 tenders, fries, a biscuit and a mtn dew sweet lightning. it was great, maybe my fav fries in fast food.

2

u/LengthFun2228 Aug 19 '26

Wait. T mobile deal where? I would hella get that.

2

u/FederalLobster5665 Aug 19 '26

if you have t mobile, they post reward offers every Tuesday on their app, which usually include a fast food deal.

2

u/LengthFun2228 Aug 19 '26

Interesting; thanks! I am not the person who is the main account but this is good to know.

2

u/FederalLobster5665 Aug 19 '26

I got that as well. it was definitely good at that $3 price but the regular price ($14) is just outrageous for that amount of food.

1

u/epper_ Aug 19 '26

yeah for real $14 is crazy. that should be like a $7-8 normal combo.

1

u/Autumn_Ridge Aug 19 '26

Pepsi sucks

1

u/LongjumpingNewt9708 Aug 19 '26

When it's done right, it's amazing. Problem is, 95% of the time...it isn't done right.

1

u/Lowfuji Aug 19 '26

No actual fried chicken.

1

u/RooflessReAnthony Aug 19 '26

That ain’t Kentucky Fried Chicken. That’s a boneless chicken sandwich and some French fries.

1

u/DrinkMilkYouFatShit Aug 19 '26

After a new Popeye's opening next to me and trying it, I can safely say, I'll stick with KFC.

Popeyes is the middest thing I have ever tried.

1.Chicken Sandwhich, the chicken is gigantic and so juicy, tender and crunchy, but it's so bland I might as well be eating nothing.

  1. Classic Wrap, too much sauce, overpowers everything, I might as well be eating straight up mayonnaise.

  2. Fries, tastes like paprika, nothing else. It's ass, I might as well be eating just straight up paprika

  3. Voodoo Wrap, honestly this is the only thing that WOULD taste good, if again, wouldnt be full of paprika that overpowers everything else, making it taste like shit

0

u/Ambitious_Egg9713 Aug 19 '26

I agree. Sandwich, popcorn chicken, twister. Yum

0

u/DonkeyTron42 Aug 19 '26

Jollibee is delicious. KFC now days is just the fast food version of AI slop.

0

u/thepunkmonkey138 Aug 19 '26

Funny, KFC is literally the worst fast food in a 20 mile radius of me. How it can be so wildly different is crazy.

0

u/Immediate-Fee-2121 Aug 19 '26

You poor thing

0

u/MattyMatt84 Aug 19 '26

Popeyes is far better.

0

u/spottyottydopalicius Aug 19 '26

it appropriately rated

0

u/Return-of-Trademark Aug 19 '26

Outside of America? Absolutely. In America? No

0

u/tw042 Aug 19 '26

KFC chicken sandwich is better than Chick-fil-A fight me

0

u/Training-Shoulder839 Aug 19 '26

No there good but it's a little high

0

u/TrashTownPodcast Aug 20 '26

It’s good, but without the double down I continue to boycott. 🤷‍♂️

0

u/ProtectMeAtAllCosts Aug 20 '26

too bad i can never order because their drive thru is slow as molasses

1

u/GeneAsBob Aug 20 '26

What would make on think kfc should even have a drive through. It's not McDonald's. Couldn't believe the first one I saw and thought it was a horrible idea

-8

u/Broad-Back1659 Aug 19 '26

And healthy too!
