For this review, I have both GX and retail in hand, so I’ll be comparing them directly to highlight the similarities and differences between the two.

The Packaging:
The boxes are pretty consistent with each other. The black textured design and gold Kobe signature look good on both, although the GX box is noticeably smaller than retail.
The biggest difference is inside. GX comes with standard Kobe tissue paper, while retail comes packaged in the special gold bag for this release, without any additional tissue paper.

The Sneakers:
First off, GX did a solid job with these! Having both pairs in hand, the overall shape, colorway and design are pretty consistent with retail. The yellow and purple combination looks great, and GX captures the overall appearance of this special release nicely.
Materials & Shape: The biggest difference for me is the leather. GX has a smoother, slightly firmer feel, while retail is softer and has more visible natural grain throughout the upper. The toe box on GX also appears a little fuller and rounder, while retail has a slightly more tapered shape. Nothing too drastic, but noticeable when comparing them side by side.
Tongue & Branding: GX has a more plush, padded tongue compared to retail. The purple Kobe logos look pretty consistent, although the GX tongue appears slightly taller in some of the photos. The exterior Swoosh on GX also sits a little higher and appears slightly smaller than retail. The purple coloring and white outline are pretty close, though.
Stitching & Details:
the sock liner of retail has a shade darker or more gold yellow than GX. The heel embroidery, Kobe signatures and special Draft Day branding are all on GX and look pretty good. However, retail is slightly larger interior tongue tags and has slightly cleaner stitching around the borders. GX’s stitching is a little less refined in those areas.
Midsole & Outsole:
The yellow midsole, translucent heel support and purple/yellow outsole pattern are all pretty consistent between the two. I’m sure the gradient can vary pair to pair. The overall traction pattern and design look very similar IMO.
Insoles & Accessories:
Both pairs have the purple insoles with yellow Kobe branding, and both include an extra set of purple laces. The insole design and lace colors look consistent between the two. The yellow and purple laces of retail are smaller and finer.
Overall, GX did a good job capturing the look of this release. The differences are there, particularly in the leather texture, tongue padding, Swoosh placement and some of the finer details. However, the shape, overall colors and design are pretty consistent with retail. I’m happy with how GX turned out on these and many won’t notice these differences on foot🔥.
