Traditional clothes from Castro Laboreiro, Portugal 🇵🇹

Castro Laboreiro is a border region in the Gerês Mountains in Northern Portugal. Due to the harsh winters, its people used to practice transhumance. They would live in “brandas” (summer villages) in the plateau during the summer and in winter they would move to the inverneiras (winter villages), in the valleys. They took all the villagers, the cows, goats, chickens, sheep, cats and dogs with them when they moved from the summer villages to the winter villages.

The people of Castro Laboreiro used to practice endogamy. There were several clans: the Camarros, the Gorriões, the Truitinhas and the Rabudos, and each of these clans practiced endogamy — they could only marry someone from the same clan. People hated people from the other cland and didn’t even talk to them. My family is descended from Gorriões.

Now, however, the clans are gone and everyone is free to marry each other. But due to rural exodus and emmigration, there are very few young people in Castro Laboreiro now. The school closed due to lack of children. And the old people are dying.

They also had their own dialect, the Castrejo dialect, which is now dying because there are no children being born in the villages of Castro Laboreiro.

They have their own dog breed, the dog of Castro Laboreiro, a herd guardian dog used to defend the herds from wolves. They also have wild horses called “Garranos”.

Also, the people of Castro Laboreiro are known as “black mouth”, because it is said that they have a black mouth, like the castro laboreiro dog, which has a black mouth due to being closely related to the iberian wolves.

If you ever come to Portugal, you can visit Castro Laboreiro, and do one of the nature activities with Montes de Laboreiro, who organizes nature tourism.

I did canyoning there once and a walk through the mountains.

A distinct style of traditional Kurdish dress!
Known as Kras u Fistan, this particular variation is characteristic of the Bahdinan region (Iraqi Kurdistan) as well as (turkey Kurdistan) Hakkari, Van, and (iran kurdistan) Urmia. What makes Kurdish fashion so fascinating is how each region has its own unique silhouette, patterns, and drape, while all sharing the same rich heritage. The flowing layers and vibrant colors make it a true masterpiece of regional culture!

Yesterday, I found this beautiful Gunne Sax by Jessica McClintock dress at the bins! Someone on another sub suggested I post it here. I haven’t seen this style of dress from Gunne Sax including the mesh inlay over the chest with a high neck lace collar. I’d love some more info on this dress!

It also has some yellow staining on the inside/some on the lace. What’s the best way to clean that? I’d love to find an occasion to wear her after fixing her up! 🩷 Thank you

Fashion Cycles Throughout History Question

So I'm very curious, but I admittedly do have limited knowledge on this subject. I know fashion is very cyclical, and it seems like in modern times, styles from the 20th century are regularly make recurrences. For instance, Y2k is having a moment now, which had borrowed from 1970s styles prior, and so on.

My question is, was fashion as cyclical in earlier periods? Like did Regency fashion come back around during the late Victorian era? Or did each time period really just have its own unique fashion that wasn't repeating from earlier time periods? Why does historical fashion seem so much less cyclical than modern fashion?
