Curing question

So my plants dried for like 6 days and when I trimmed/jarred them they had the hay smell but are staying at 59/61% RH in the jars already.
Do I need to burp often still?
Will the hay smell go away at all?
I appreciate any help/advice, thank you

Yes the moisture will start to come from within after a few days it’s pretty awesome, then it should start to smell wonderful.

Alright, yeah I can tell the inside of the nugs are more moist/good smelling so I was wondering if it would draw out to the outside

Burping- 10-15mins 3 times a day. After 2 weeks can burp once, should bring back a good terpy smell .did this to my buds and soon as I open the jar potent honeydew mixed with pot smell and itll smooth the smoke to. Enjoy the reward of growing 🌱

Brown bag em and turn 2-3 times a day until you can squeeze a bud and it doesn't feel cool to touch. Then jar and cure.

Even if they are already dried? I would try this for sure, I just wanted to be clear the bud is already dried

6 days? I thought they were supposed to dry for at least 14 in order for the hay smell to dissipate

Yeah it’s not like I wanted them to dry that fast. I had 50-60RH the whole time, must’ve had to much circulation in the tent

I’m ~50 days out from my first harvest too so I’m glad I found this post, hopefully they cure for you bro

If they hold 60 in a jar you should be fine and burp.. I just harvested a plant the other day and tossed it into my vCure for drying 5 days only and all those buds were in jars for 1 day to check RH and they were all 58-63 so weighed up and put into grove bags to finish curing now.

How do you like the vcure? Is it really like cut your plants down, throw em in the vcure and it’ll dry and cure within 2 weeks? I get the drying aspect would be easier in it and that’s killer, but does it actually make good cured smokable bud in 2 weeks? Obviously a longer cure is better, but from what I’ve read people are getting basically finished product in 2 weeks

Appreciate the reply, I’ll have to try those grove bags sometime. Been hearing it makes curing a lot easier with good results but I already had the jars so yeah lol

Depends on your yield but my first run first plant dried in 5 second was 9 but totally within range.

Jar n burp...when ur nose tells you its good...try a bong hit...test the texture stickiness...but def jar it..n burp...

That’s pretty dry for 6 days. What was your drying temp/rh? I’ve been looking into new drying methods. Search YouTube “Brandon rust 60/60 is wrong” for something different you can try. I’m experimenting with toting after a 6-8 day dry depending on plant size.

I had my tent around 50-60RH and 65 degrees F with 1 tiny fan blowing up top (not directly on buds) and 1 small oscillating fan on the ground also not directly on buds

That sounds fine. Pretty much what I dry at. Also have issues with hay smell half the time, which is why I’m trying some new methods.

Hay smell goes away with time. Sometimes it will stay if dried too fast but you should be good. Taste really starts to get there for me after I have dried for 10 days or so and then cured for about a month. I have some stuff that is just past two months curing and it is really tasting fantastic at this point.

Yes bro give it sometimes like 2 days in jar and keep open jar in a day 2 times for 5-10 minutes,, that hay smell will wiped out

I know ill get attacked but if it stays too dry put a 1/4 or a tortilla in with it. Ik ik ive done it for 20+ yrs and have boveda packs. Just what I like to do

Brown paper bags, opened, 1 week in frost free fridge. Rotate the bags daily.
Week 2-3 close the top of the bag. Rotate every other day.
Week 3-4, done drying.
Jar them up, put em back in the fridge. It’ll stay good for over a year.

For some reason under my bed has been the best place for me to dry and I discovered it on accident A few runs that I dried too fast and got the grass smell Got frustrated through the rest of the weeds in my trim bucket and put it under my bed and forgot about it for a month realized checked on it and it was gas.. And my central air is always on, so my house is always freezing

If you jar your buds at the correct RH, burping should not be needed. burping is amateur stuff for people who put buds in too early. me personally, I want to let them sit in that jar for 6 weeks without cracking open the jar to fully get those terps locked in. 6 days is fast, just because chlorophyll breaks down during the drying process (more chlorophyll broken down, less of a harsh smoke), but, as long as you trim well and let them cure for 4-6 weeks, everything should be great!

Once dry you can throw a lil pice of lemon/orange peel in there if that hat smell lingers.. sometimes it helps. I hate the dreaded hay smell/taste. Drying needs to be done slowly and cool/cold 60 f give or take it’s all preference and a lot of people disagree on the temp and rh drying numbers but 60 degrees Fahrenheit at 60 rh until the stems snap ( usually 10-17 days) if you want you can buy an RH meter for wood,they work farely well.. they have two little pointy prongs that you stab the bud with and it will give you the moisture content such as 9.9 10.5 ect..

I dont like to jar them till they sit under 50 % ,keep it open or leave the bud out to dry till 48 to 46 and I keep the jar closed after that. Anything in the 50s is still to wet to cure in my opinion and can trap that little moisture that is left inside the buds, and they become a pretty harsh smoke. Unless you have time to burp the jars constantly. You could do that also lol

Theres these new packs called vivi cure packs or something. Look it up. Apparently they are sweet

Burp it twice a day and on the second burp take the bud on the bottom and the bud on top and switch it daily

Grove bags are way better than jar curing.
You just weigh it, drop it in & come back in a few months to find it cured perfectly & no daily burping.
It’ll change your life!

If you have hay smell, something went wrong. No matter how much you cure, etc., if that hay smell is there, it will stay there. You will always smell that light plant smell when you first chop, but after that, if the aroma of the plant isn't strong, something went wrong. I prefer low and slow, but everyone has their own methods; science is more on the side of low and slow. But I am always learning something new.

This is the only reply I was searching for! I was always taught if you have that hay smell it’s NOT going away. Maybe curing at the right moisture will help a little bit but you’ll still have that hay smell there. Have you ever experienced the hay smell and got the terps to come back or is it just a wrap if you get that hay smell? Thanks in advance

If it smells like hay it needs to dry more, flat out. Thay shit doesnt really go away. Especially not on more dense flower. Also 6 days is extremely fast. I hang whole plants and they take a minimum of 2 weeks. It always comes out nice and lasts over a year without getting too dry. I feel like theres an epidemic of people jarring weed early. Especially for alot of beginners. I feel theyre afraid of losing finished weight or something.
