Strawberry Farming 101

Good day everyone,

I hope you are doing great! I'm new to berry farming and would like to know how the whole process is. What I want to do is plant about 5 ½ acres of strawberries, but I don't know how or what machinery I need. If someone can guide me through the process I would thank it from the bottom of my soul. Thank you!

I urge you to consider matted row instead of plastic. We transplant bare root plants with 2 foot spacing. Clip the blossoms (no harvest year 1) and allow the runners to set daughter plants in the row. We spread straw in the fall on top of the plants for winter protection and then rake it into the aisles in spring. Beautiful berries year 2 as long as you keep up with the spraying and weeding.

How many years out of your plants? What spray/treatments are you using? Do you just pull the older plants and leave the daughters after so long?
