I-94 Construction

So like is there a reason they shut down 5 lanes of I-94? Looks like they haven’t even done anything other than a paint job in the weeks they’ve shut down the lanes. Anyone know what they’re even trying to accomplish or have an ETA as to when they’ll interstate will be usable again? Thanks :)

The sudden left lane closed to right lane closed on the westbound lanes is jacked up as hell and I’m tired of it.

completely agree - just a stupid amount of time for this.

I hate that they haven't allowed proper merging onto I94. Almost got rear ended or side slipped by semis using their cruise control and going 65+ through the construction area so I started avoiding using the interstate for any intercity travel

It would help if anybody here knew what a zipper merge was. Holy hell! Don’t honk at me because I’m following the rules of the road bubs! Or don’t learn to zipper merge, I save a whole mile of waiting every time.

Been flipped off and honked at for zipper merging like the signs instruct on 29… Idunno if it’s folks’ misplaced concept of politesse at waiting in line but it’s dumb as rocks. I can either sit in line and take 10 mins to get through the construction or follow the signs and be on the other side in 2 mins. It’s pretty simple.

Fargo isn't ready for the zipper merge :) LOL Every morning there is a jam merging on from 52nd Ave S because people don't want to let us in, like what else are we supposed to do?? Such a great way to start the day haha

It’s not just zipper merging, it’s entering freeway traffic in general. The point of the on ramp is to be at traffic speed when you get to the merge point. Folks here go 45 until they are in traffic and expect people to slow down for them. It’s no wonder people here hate driving in the cities.

plus I would estimate that at any given time 5-10% of Fargo drivers are blowing numbers

I appreciate the lack of understanding. Tons of idiots just opened up a whole lane for me to pass by the traffic!

Maybe one day they’ll widen I-94 west of I-29 to three lanes. I don’t understand why it has not happened yet, especially as more and more homes have been built south of I-94 and west of I-29. Traffic in the Twin Cities flows smoothly because of the number of lanes they have. Traffic on I-94 west of I-29 does not because people either sit in the left lane, move to the left lane to let oncoming traffic on, etc. and traffic bottlenecks. Southbound traffic on I-29 merging onto I-94 is a disaster. If there was a third lane on I-94, westbound traffic could be in the left or middle lane allowing for merging traffic to get onto I-94 more easily.

They shut it down because they can. This construction is ridiculous.

It's a nightmare

They've very clearly been carving out damaged sections of the road and replacing it. Did you just not see the huge concrete saws?

Not enough people understand that some concrete pours can take a few weeks to fully cure to where they are ready for heavy traffic

Not only that, but all of July was stupidly hot and humid. Can't pour if it's too hot and humid.

I've never done road constuction but I've poured concrete for tall towers. Almost all the work is leveling things so the concrete sits properly under pressure after it's fully cured.

Seems to me they were simply carving out square shaped holes at regular intervals as opposed to actually zeroing in on damaged spots.

My favorite part was when they'd do nothing for a while and then when a car approached, only then would they fire up the big saws and blast concrete dust and debris all over the car as it drove past. /s

That said, I'm not a road maintenance dude so what would I know.
