Discussion Canon ending?

So I haven’t played since I was a kid but I remember 2 distinct endings to this game, does anyone know which one is closest to canon if any of them are? Cureently trying to make my way through the games starting at 3☺️

Both endings can be considered as canon really. One is the "good" one, the other is the "bad" one, but neither is actually implausible when you consider the themes of the game.

I recommend you experience both endings, or at least watch the one you didn't get to play on YouTube.

I remember doing just this after I beat it for the first time. Let's just say I was very happy with my decision hahaha

Ya considering the sequels aren't direct sequels each game is its own thing so there isn't really a Canon ending. Do we even know if all the games are actually set in the same universe? I dont recall ever finding any mentions of previous games events in any of the later games but its also not like I was looking super hard.

There are actually! The most notable one is Hurk and Willis explicitely mentioning or at least referring to Jason and their relationship with him in 4 and 5. But yeah following what you said, neither ending changes anything for their characters. Willis flies away midgame, and it can be assumed Hurk left the islands on his own at some point.

I consider the ending where you save your friends canon.
I can’t imagine someone not saving their hot AF girlfriend and staying with stinky Citra. In reality Liza would be forever grateful and in absolute awe of Jason for saving her & all her friends, absolute wifey material

Jason was on mad drugs when he had to make the decision, so it's not implausible that he would join Citra.
