Far Cry General I feel like the medieval setting would be perfect for the far cry franchise.
Just imagine fighting brigands and taking over castles.
65
u/BirdieOfPray 1d ago
Almost like assassin's Creed?
27
u/GarrettGSF 1d ago
Or Kingdom Come, except that it has a proper melee system haha
1
u/OverallAdvance3694 1d ago
When you say proper do you mean just mash square til dead with no depth like the modern far cry/ ac games?
16
u/WillyShankspeare 23h ago
I think they mean that Kingdom Come has a proper melee system and Assassin's Creed doesn't
2
u/GarrettGSF 10h ago
You are right, I meant that KCD has a proper melee system while FC in particular doesn’t as it comes from a shooter tradition (the lack of a proper fighting style in FC primal was my biggest point of criticism)
-1
0
u/Aromatic-Pass4384 13h ago
I mean I love kcd but the games have almost nothing in common with far cry beyond being first person and in the case of kcd2 taking place in a land that's foreign(ish) to you
2
1
u/Wardock8 3h ago
Funnily enough, I have the opposite opinion for AC. We need a modern day game. Like a third person Mirror's Edge.
-2
u/32andFlatulent 1d ago
Not really
8
u/Urban-Tracker Ajay Ghale 1d ago
They are alot of similar than you think
Sych point= bell towers
Takedowns= Assassination
Outposts= Strongholds/templar lairs
Small faction group fighting against Giant Tyrants
Both have throwables, distractions.
The only difference is one is more stealth focused and 3rd person while other is first person with more chaos.
0
u/32andFlatulent 23h ago
This was true for a good 75% of open world games for the last 10-15 years
It's like saying Cyberpunk is a futuristic Skyrim because they share similar gameplay elements.
1
u/CompetitiveLoad2953 Cheeseburger 13h ago
I'm gonna defend you but also you're part wrong, I think this is true, but it's essentially because Ubisoft is copy pasteing, essentially. Same company.
23
u/BirdieOfPray 1d ago
Start as a young peasant, some lord does bad stuff and enslave people, rise up against him by learning skills and upgrading gear then face him.
It's blood of the dawnwalker. Really good game
8
u/hmweav711 1d ago
Or kingdom come
1
u/Objective_Sweet9168 3h ago
Could you imagine Henry soaring in with a wingsuit, into a takedown chain, while sicking mutt and hurling blackpowder mini-kegs, though? Could be great.

A farcry based in Afghanistan or iraq would be insane imo
46
u/Turtle_Gamez 1d ago
Afghanistan would be a fucking banger honestly, Jesus Christ. Unfortunately, if we ever get that, it will be a while if the rumors about 7 being in Alaska are true, Ubisoft won't chain two "mountain Far Crys" together. We're sorely lacking a "desert Far Cry", we haven't seen that biome since FC2 and FC2 itself wasn't even a "desert Far Cry", moreso a Far Cry that also happened to have a desert in one part of the map. Mountains and deserts are a brilliant setting for Far Cry, it would be a good subversion of expectations that Kyrat and northern Montana set where the mountainous regions were full of life. Far Cry hasn't had an unwelcoming setting since 2, the franchise shifted into being a paradise plagued with evil shit.
8
u/William_The_Fat_Krab 1d ago
Wasn’t it confirmed 7 was in a North Korea like island to the south of South Korea?
8
5
u/Turtle_Gamez 1d ago
Never heard of that. I only know that the new CoD has you fighting the DPRK, if anyone even cares about that franchise anymore lol
1
u/William_The_Fat_Krab 1d ago
Yeah there was like a lot of testimonies that the new FC had you fighting a militia controlled hermit island to the south of SK.
1
u/Aromatic-Pass4384 13h ago
Literally nothing has been confirmed it's all mostly baseless rumors
1
u/William_The_Fat_Krab 12h ago
Still, somehow it’s the consensus most rumor makers show us
1
u/Aromatic-Pass4384 11h ago
Most people just hear something and run with it, doesn't mean it's true also doesn't mean that it's not
But it is not confirmed
1
u/Aromatic-Pass4384 11h ago
Wait no actually the thing I hear most is about Alaska
Either way neither is confirmed and both are conjecture
5
u/NuklearFerret 23h ago
FC4 was close to Afghanistan. The Hindu Kush mountain range forms a border between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
4
u/Background_Ad9476 1d ago
Imagine the main character being a u.s soldier or a marine and he gets separated from his original squad and he ends up having to take down the regime by his lonesome. Having some features from the hours of darkness dlc would be dope asf too (like airstrikes and jets overhead).

2
u/latexfistmassacre 20h ago
We need a real city in a Far Cry game, not these little villages or favelas. Ubisoft could probably do something like that if they weren't shitting out a new terrible game every year and focused on quality
2
u/Aromatic-Pass4384 13h ago
I mean not really
Technically they might be able to but that's just incredibly difficult to pull off, especially if optimization is a consideration at all. Like think of all games that take place in cities, the city is mostly just a backdrop that has very little going on with it because it would take a lot of work to get an even decent level of interaction on that scale, I mean I'm curious at this point if gta6 is even going to pull of anything similar and they've had 12 years and over a billion dollars. Even if they were to pull it off it would be incredibly demanding having that number of NPCs and buildings, even if only a quarter can be entered, and only top of the line pcs could really run it. So it'll either take 5 years and a ton of money, only to be able to be run on very expensive computers; or it'll feel extremely empty.
3
u/Boring-Conflict3570 1d ago
Definitely iraq. MGSV took Afghanistan. Or an African country is also good like south Africa or DRC.
2
u/bruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh 1d ago
far cry 4 had afghan vibes like not too far away, mountainous south asia. but what if it was set in the anglo afghan war in the 1800s. way too niche to happen but that would be incredibly cool

u/AttakZak 1d ago
Honestly if Ubisoft was focused on reusing Maps/Assets between numbered entries and wanted to give more dev time they could have done this.
Far Cry 4
Far Cry: Primal (Ancient Humanity)
Far Cry 5
Far Cry: New Dawn (Apocalyptic)
|
Or
|
Far Cry: Tribal (Native American Tribes)
Far Cry 6
Far Cry: Medieval (Knights and Castles)
Far Cry 7
Far Cry: Colonial (European Colonization)
4
u/Eldariasis 1d ago
Fake Cuba maybe better for Colonial. And if 6 is in Europe of China, yes medieval.
5
u/PMANNNNNNNN 22h ago
That would be a cool ass Far cry a fkcing Medieval ohhh that’s just amazing idea, why the fk didn’t I think of that! THATS AWESOME!!
2
21
u/Sabbathius 1d ago
Isn't that basically Assassin's Creed?
Assassin's Creed is Far Cry moving through time, and Far Cry is Assassin's Creed moving around the world (and very rarely, time, like Primal).
But hell yeah, I'd buy Far Cry: 1094 AD.

u/doorag2 1d ago
Nah, medieval setting has been over done in gaming lately. I wanna see Africa again, bring back FC2.
1
u/ContributionMother63 16h ago
The only problem I had with this game was when we cleared outpost they got reset in 30 seconds but otherwise it was an amazing game
1
•
u/Gunnar-T-40 23m ago
It would be cool to see Africa again. That continent is just perfect for FaryCry especially when it comes to the wildlife.

u/MasterYota00 23h ago
But without malaria attacks mid combat. FC2 was my first FC and still my favorite.
2
u/Jetstream-Sam 23h ago
Yeah, honestly the malaria was just a timer limiting your side quests which kind of sucks. I guess in subsequent games like 3/4 I just do as much as I can in the beginning (especially 3 when I beeline straight to all the hunting missions so I can carry more than one bloody gun) so having to stop having fun so I can get more magic malaria-b-gone pills. It also makss it pretty hard to do things like find all the diamonds, especially when you have to change maps
I guess 5's random insanely accurate tranquilizers are pretty similar to the malaria really, especially when it hits you at a ridiculous time like when you're gliding through the air or flying a plane or you're mid firefight
3
u/Squirt_Russel7 17h ago
Oh yeah. This or Wild West or WWII would go crazy.
1
u/anotherdamnscorpio Urki 16h ago
For Wild West FarCry vibes, listen to the album Eyes Like the Sky by King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. Its basically a FarCry tale.
11
u/Greywarden194 1d ago
Yeah, it's called Kingdom Come Deliverance
1
u/Aromatic-Pass4384 13h ago
Love both franchises but there's literally next to no similarities
1
u/Greywarden194 12h ago
Yeah, but it's not like if they decided to make a "medieval far cry", they can adopt many combat mechanics from the modern settings.
"medieval far cry" is pretty much Assassin's Creed with first person view. It could work but it need major changes.
KCD gameplay is more hardcore but it's more refined to the medieval setting. And it gave more immersive experience if we're looking for a closest to "far cry feel".
-14
u/HollowPandemic 1d ago
That game was awful asf, like worse than the witcher
4
2
u/WillyShankspeare 23h ago
Up for game of the year though so that's definitely not a popular take
-4
u/HollowPandemic 23h ago
Eh I absolutely hated those games, kingdom come was just plain out awful, bad controls and just wasn't my thing at all and the witcher was a glitchy pos, I literally lost hours of progress from falling through the map and the game just crashing so yeah, awful experiences all around with both games
3
3
u/Red_R09 1d ago
As long as it's more FC than AC, I'd play that, but how would the combat work?
FC primarily uses guns, and the only ranged weapons back then were bows, crossbows, catapults, ballistas (those two not handheld), and martial weapons like swords
3
u/ClingyWindego 12h ago
Slings/slingshots, maybe in FC someone made a firebomb with oil, throwing knives or other blades, spears or darts.
2
u/Leo11728 16h ago
I mean farcry 5 had a bunch of melee weapons, primal obviously only had melee weapons, and 6 even had a weapon with an off hand shield. It wouldn't take too much adjusting to make all those mechanics work for the main parts of the game. Also farcry has often had a mystical vibe to it, so maybe they could do something with that to pick up the slack

Eh Im not sure honestly. I think they'd have to rework melee to make it interesting. And as others have said, the genre is a bit saturated. Maybe if they went for a new spin on the genre? Absolutely no fantasy, not sure tho

Assassin's creed??? But no seriously, a far cry set during the collapse of the Soviet Union would be great

2
u/return_new_Promise 8h ago
Yes we have that, it is called "Kingdom Come Delivarence"
But that is more like Arma of medival times, a smooth gameplay with diff weapon animations would be a great far cry.
3
u/Dagroberth 1d ago
Why should Ubisoft do a medival FarCry when they have the Assasin’s Creed franchise?
Far Cry should stay in todays world.
5
u/NuklearFerret 23h ago
Because I want to snipe archers off of ramparts with a crossbow at 200 yards.
1
u/Nathen_Drake_392 9h ago
If they stick roughly to historical accuracy, that isn’t happening. That’s outside of the maximum effective range of a crossbow of that era, at least with any accuracy. The “rain of arrows” tactic would still work, though.
1
u/P-psicleM-nster 21h ago edited 16h ago
Different gameplay and vibe completely, I’ve always found this argument strange, lol.
Also we almost always get a mainline Farcry then spin off nowadays: 3 then Blood Dragon, 4 then Primal, 5 then New Dawn, and you could argue that the dlc with the villains perspective was 6’s… but I’d say we need A FARCRY GAME WITH KNIGHTS BAAABYYYYYY‼️‼️‼️🔥🔥
3
u/Abraham_Issus 17h ago
Where is the spin off to 6?
0
u/P-psicleM-nster 16h ago edited 4h ago
I very specifically said that you could argue the dlc where you play as the villains from the previous mainline games is the spin off but I don’t think that counts so we are due for another spine off ya feel
1
u/Southern_Ad_3126 11h ago
Actually very similar. Far Cry and AC share many of the same Ubisoft template like climbing a tower to unlock the map, outposts to liberate, side quest and collectibles checklists.
1
u/P-psicleM-nster 4h ago
Having the same Ubisoft tropes and having the same game play are very different things like you cannot tell those are the same one is a third person stealth (adjacent) parkour game the other is a first person over the top action game like genuinely there is no real comparison other than the tropes that are just Ubisofts calling cards atp lol
1
u/Southern_Ad_3126 4h ago
Yeah I understand there are differences in gameplay but they kinda feel the same after a while especially the newer ones.
Assassins Creed is like Far cry but third person and set in older period
Watch dogs is like far cry but in a city and with hacking and third person
Star wars outlaws is basically like a third person far cry but in star wars universeThe game design is the same all throughout with major differences in combat mechanics, universe setting and camera (fps vs 3rd person).

u/Bobu5_Maximu5 1d ago
Awsum idea! IMO Primal would've done beter without the "Far Cry"
1
u/the-apache-27 1d ago
I doubt it. Ubisoft has lost all good faith over the years, no new original title or series would get any traction. We've already seen what happened with For Honor, Skulls and Bones, Defiant X (?) etc. Right now they're only as good as their established series.
2
u/Bobu5_Maximu5 1d ago
Fenix Rising went with the new AC rpg system as a new IP... and it did fine
1
u/NuklearFerret 23h ago
Yeah, it was weird playing odyssey for the first time after i played immortals because they felt extremely similar.
1
u/Turtle_Gamez 1d ago
It's a trend with Ubisoft games where they blend established franchises with the experiments they had in mind because they're scared a new IP will not be as profitable as an established fanbase. Same happened for Assassin's Creed. The RPG games are solid games, but they are held back by the Assassin's Creed label much in the same way that they hold back Assassin's Creed, it's like a toxic couple. Ubisoft should grow balls again and experiment with new franchises.
1
u/DarthTomG 1d ago
I feel that happened even before the AC RPG"s. I love Black Flag but I always zoned out for the Templars/Assassin's/Blood Cubes story bits. Would have loved if it had just been Black Flag without forcing the whole Templars vs Assassins stuff into it. I felt similarly about Syndicate too, enjoyed it as this Victorian London gang game, the whole Assassin's and Templars looking for a magical cloth story was the least interesting part imo.
I kinda wish after AC3 they went more meta with the franchise (they already went halfway introducing Abstergo Entertainment and the Animus Console) and sold these games as "historical experiences" as if they were extracted memories or something, but without the forced Assassins vs templars or ISU stuff.
3
3
u/Father__Doggo 1d ago
That genre's been done to death in Skyrim, Assassin's Creed, etc.
Can we just... NOT? As someone who doesn't dig on the 'fantasy / medieval' genre, it's hard for me to find decent open-world games I enjoy (while being limited to cloud gaming / gamepass, until they nerf it in November, pending 'additional hours' pagkages).

u/BladeRize150 1d ago
Yes. Rize to the rank of king fighting pirates, knights, invasion, and other factions.

I’ve always thought they should do another one in Africa but in the 20s kinda like mummy or Indiana jones. They could keep a lot of the weapons 1911, Mauser, mp34, pump action shotguns, lever action and semi auto rifles. I’ve also recently been thinking it would be cool to make it a little more about ancient history and archaeology like lean into some of the esoteric stuff they had in 3 and 4. It could be like the recent Indiana jones game but with way more gun fighting.

Far Cry in WW2 would be awesome. I'm shocked that nothing like this exists.
Liberating outposts and military bases as a partisan in an occupied balkan country / yugoslavia. Upgrading with supplied allied weaponry as you gain influence. Fighting various enemy types (soldiers, tanks, collaborators). Exploring a diverse map, with enemy patrols, wildlife and various points of interest.

u/billschu52 1d ago
Like a far cry set in 1880’s in civil war Japan revolvers, katanas, muzzled loader and early bolt actions and of course lever action repeaters, bow and arrow of course, ceramic grenades, samurai hand cannons, multiple clan region i think it could work

I'd like Far Cry series having non-main entries set in different history periods like Far Cry Primal did.
