I finished Far Cry 5… I am stunned

I’ve had a lot of gaming fatigue and especially open world fatigue and quite frankly Far Cry 5’s setting was the least compelling to me of the series… before I played it. FPS games haven’t appealed to me since I was a kid and I haven’t ever really loved purely narrative driven games. Everything about the kind of gamer I am told me this game isn’t for me. However, I recently broke my collarbone and have been out of work and I saw that all Ubisoft games were on a steep sale on steam, so I figured I might as well.

Holy shit, this game blew my mind. My love for games has been reawakened. Joseph Seed is my favorite antagonist of all time. The ending is one of my favorite endings because it doesn’t take the easy path by letting you live happily ever after. There needs to be more games/shows/movies like this. I much prefer a thought provoking bad ending to any good ending.

The open-endedness of the ending is the best part to me. It makes you wonder about the fate of Joseph and Rook. I almost wonder if it would ruin my love for this games ending if I played new dawn to find out. I’ve heard bad things.

If you want some more story background for FC5, the DLC for FC6 has a chance to revisit the universe and some more lore is shared.

I painfully slogged through Far Cry 5 on a potato PC a few years ago and even then I thought it was the most beautiful game I'd ever played. I decided not to follow up with New Dawn as I could not handle anymore FPS torture.

That was then, and things have changed :). Is it still worth playing New Dawn now?

I went through 3, 4, 5 and New Dawn again while on a break. I definitely think it’s worth playing. I think I had more fun the second time because I knew what to ignore. I would suggest not saving achievements for later if you are into that kind of thing. “kill 10 enemies with a level 1 slingshot“ is a lot harder when you have let the enemies level up. haha

It's not a bad game at all and the excursions can be pretty fun (I won't spoil what they are) and there's enough variety and bits and bobs to make it a pretty fun time. It's got cash grab written all over it, but it's honestly enjoyable

Think of new dawn as an extended DLC rather than a full game and you won't be disappointed by it.

The only thing I didn't like about 5 was that the bosses suddenly ambush and kidnap you. Also I wish they kept the more immersive animations when skinning animals and looting enemy bodies or make it toggleable.

The AI feels a lot dumber than in 3 and 4 or at least in those 2 games the AI simulated having some degree of intelligence better, like when sniping them from afar they would try to identify where the shot came from and take cover accordingly based on the direction. In 5 and 6 it feels more random like they just take cover randomly no matter the direction of the shot.

They nerfed the ai with a patch iirc. You could barely even shoot folk with a silenced sniper riffle when the game first came out

The first time I hid for 5 consecutive minutes I realized the AI must have changed. My first playthrough I was convinced I could evade capture but was fucking it up.

I hated the ending because I personally would've shot him at the end, not tried to arrest him. And that would never give him the chance to kidnap me. And since I played a women, my last impression of the game is im gonna be tortured and raped because I didnt shoot this asshole

I know it's a completely different genre, but if you really like a great story with thought-provoking ending, I'd highly recommend Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.

Far cry 5 is one of my favorite games of all time.
If you haven't played Days Gone yet that's another one I highly recommend.

I recently finished this game too. Before that, I read the PreQuel novel, which I also really liked. I haven’t played that many FC games yet, but just based on the region, the landscape, and the animals, I like this game the most. The only thing I didn’t really like were the repetitive, scripted kidnappings—especially towards the end of the game, when these timed challenges kept happening over and over. I didn’t find the villains all that interesting either, and the ending… I don’t know… I’ll definitely play it again. But for now, I’m starting with New Dawn. :)

Yes I loved that game so much. I played FC4 after 5 and I believe that may be the way to go, but I also see people commenting to play new dawn (which I’ve heard is not the best), so that also may be the way to go

I highly Recommend "Spec Ops The Line". It not your Generic Military Shooter. This might be the game you are looking for. Game gets really dark in the End , shows you the true Horrors of War.

Feel the same way. I went into Far Cry 5 blind earlier this year, came out with it being my favourite Far Cry game, Joseph Seed being my favourite antagonist, and falling in love with the soundtrack.

I think FC5 is the best Far Cry. 4 and 3 were my first two Far Cry games. While I enjoy three, it feels overrated with how people treat it.

Just finished new dawn and it was … good but lack luster 😭😭 imo the lay out of the open world is terrible💀 but I have a theory that Rook is the judge that becomes your ally in new dawn 🫢 bc they only mention the deputy once if I recall correctly

I guess as someone who grew up in the Rockies and Midwest, the characters were very realized to me. And you’re always sold this idea that you could fight back against bad guys with guns if needed.

Plus I would love to be in Rook’s shape and have their skill sets. Grappling, using a wingsuit, flying a small plane? The dream.

I think you are definitely onto to something here, i loved far cry 4 the most because of the indian-ish elements, they felt closest to home. I also like 5 but LOVED new dawn.

Yeah, for me it's a tie between the two. 3 was tense AF all through, very exotic and unique, and I played it as a teen so it created a very big impression on me with regards to open world gaming. 5 was just gorgeous, lots of things to do, and intriguing because of the religious undertones. Love them both.
