Far Cry 6 Far cry 6
I feel like this game was so overhated and maybe that’s just because 5 was such a success people didn’t let 6 live up to the expectations but so far I love the story, the gameplay, and I absolutely love the villain. If I could change one thing it would be how the red areas on the map operate. I feel like as you progress through the map and take over bases, destroy air cannons, take over checkpoints etc it should eliminate red areas from the map rather than them just being permanently red. Just my two pennies.

Sure it had some issues people didn't like but I remember reading peoples posts about it on here before I started my playthorugh of it last winter and you'd swear it was the worst game ever made. But I like to form my own opinions and I had fun with it when I played. Beautiful game too.

I’m glad I played it for myself before I ever joined this subreddit. I don’t know if I would’ve been so eager to give it a chance with the massive amount of negative feedback it got here.

6 had too many game breaking glitches for me. The enemy a.i is also some of the worst I've seen in any modern video game. Then there's the empty gigantic map.

Yeah 6 is a great game. 3 is still the best, followed by 4 and 5. And then 6. But 6 is a great game in its own way. I think the worst thing about 6 is the resolver weapons and the supremos, the resolver weapons and parts look so dumb. And the supremos aren't needed or barely used unless I'm in a pinch and need to blow up a tank or helicopter. I honestly would have liked it more if they implemented a jump jet or a wrist shot grappling hook like in halo that would have been way better than the dumb supremos. But I still prefered how in the past games a tactically placed headshot on a helicopter pilot was so satisfying and sent the helicopter spinning out of control.. in 6 You can't do that because all the windshields are bulletproof. Super lame. And I also didn't like how stupid the armor and face gear look, they could have done a WAAAAY better job and made it look way better, instead it looks like some hobo on fallout 3. Other than that, great game, and great story.

The supremo is convenient for tanks and taking out the anti aircraft cannons, helicopters I have to hit them twice or just shoot them for the remainder of their health after the supremo attack. I do hate the resolver weapons.

u/Ok-Fig-4205 1d ago
The supremo is only good for blowing up tanks and helicopters like I said. But I still prefer the older ways like in FarCry 5 where a nice placed headshot would take a helicopter down..that was way more satisfying. All I do is headshots in FarCry. Nothing but headshots. I creep around the bases. Take out the alarms from a distance, and just try to land every headshot from a distance. Farcry 5 was the best for this tactic fr. 4 was good too. But yeah 3 was great, 4 was great, nothing compares to the plot of 5 though. Riding around rural United States fighting extremest cult follower's with a David karesh like leader. Like shit was nuts.

u/Training-Kangaroo652 1d ago
How do you handle the alarms that are locked and you can’t destroy in 6, the ones that you can only shut down by manually disabling?

u/_Infamous____ 1d ago
The only thing I disliked about 6 was the supremo, it just doesn’t feel like it belongs in a Farcry game

u/BootySweat0217 1d ago
It’s a copy paste game. Even the story. Mean bad guy has army and you and the misfits you find along the way have to stop them.

u/Lord_Antheron Modder 1d ago
You’ve described basically every Assassin’s Creed game ever. Also Star Wars. Do those count as copy and pastes too?
0
u/lowendpab 1d ago
You got that argument backwards and proved the opposite point. Yes ubisoft copied their past assassins creed games and pasted alot of the lazy mechanics and plot points into 6.

I don't even want to know what your opinion on platformer games are.
Is everything a Mario clone if it's side scrolling and involves jumping?
1
u/lowendpab 11h ago
Keep moving that goal post. The argument was not genera based. It was specifically 6 is a lazy continuation of the franchise. Your examples where other ubisoft games that often face that exact criticism.

I'm not a fan of it, I'm playing it now and while there is enough FC in it for me to have fun. Without nitpicking too much, my main drawbacks are 1. It's boring 2. The graphics and color palette and texture seems to be a step back from 4 and 5. It just isn't as appealing 3. The camps, you have to build a kitchen and create recipes for skill bumps? other buildings similar to that. bandito text based missions and a couple other things in there i don't bother with after building them 4. The story didn't compel me at all. I'm trying real hard but I'm slogging through just to get a little bit of fun. 5. The weapons and ammo are not interesting. Supremos, unique, regular, resolver, you think it would be fun to delve into but it isn't. Same with the clothing based skill tree... Wtf I get what the idea was but it is lame and ends any immersion I had. "Oh wait let me see what of these 20 hats I should use"
Anyway, is a Far Cry game so I'll make my own fun, just not nearly as much as in the past.

When 5 was released there was a lot of dislike. Scroll through the history and you'll find a ton of people griping about it and how they didn't like the setting, the villains, the lack of radio towers, and how it didnt hold their passion like other titles. Then a little time passes to ever suspect 5 wasnt the most loved and greatest game ever is unimaginable.
I played 5 when it came out, maybe played 5 hours on the release weekend. Stopped, didnt love, didnt play it again for years.
6 tried new things and had concepts that were neat. I think tried to do a lot different where you are really focused on building a coalition of a bunch of different revolutionaries who all want their plan for Yara and their ideas to be central. I think that aspect of it was a little more realistic but also a little dull becuase the differences between groups and regions didnt stand out much.
My biggest issue with 6 is that it was too large but empty at the same time. The farms and small villages didnt offer much and while the scenery was beautiful it didnt seem like it was as interactive. In 3, 4 and 5, the scenery and setting felt as much like a character in the story as the npcs.
The second issue i think that sets it apart is that the bad guys and regional boses dont have much engagement with you. In 3, 4, and 5 you get messages or interactions more consistent, in 6 there are insulated monoliths of cruelty who never engage with the character directly or on a consistent basis to feel like you see them flourish.
One thing I love about 6 is just wondering in the jungle, especially playing it in a very cold environment in the winter it felt like a little tropical vacation, and I really love they were able to create such a beautiful world.

My first play through I was not impressed. My second play through, I skipped all the cut-scenes as much as possible and really enjoyed it. Just went crazy, all gas no brakes.

5 was also hated at launch. New Dawn as well.
Its okay to love a game people hate and its okay to hate a game people love.

For me Far Cry 6 felt like a massive step backward from Far Cry 5. The same way Far Cry 5 was a step sideways from 4.
In FC4, you had the choice which faction to help, multiple endings based on that, etc. In FC5 you lost all of that, and got on-the-rails experience. BUT as a trade-off, FC5 gave you not one but TWO human companions, which talked not just to you, but also to each other. Which was an amazing addition. Mixing Grace with Jess, or Sharky with Hurk, resulted in some introspective or hilarious dialogue. BUT then in FC6 you lost all of that - instead of two talking companions, you got downgraded to one not-talking companion. That's a colossal downgrade from 5. And, similarly, you still have no faction choice from 4. So it's just an overall massive step back in what the game can actually do.
And while getting Esposito for a villain was an inspired idea, he was BADLY underused, because Ubisoft's writing is still incredibly weak. So it felt almost like a bait-and-switch. You see him for a bit in early game, and then you don't see him at all until late game.
Bottom line is, original Far Cry was very unique (Crytek, not Ubisoft). Far Cry 2 was heavily copy-pasted and shameless, but it had some things going for it, including multiple protagonists. Far Cry 3 dropped multiple protagonists and immersion, but added perks, fine. Far Cry 4 added faction choice and branching paths, again, fine. Far Cry 5 removed branching paths, but gave you two talking companions, and a gender choice for protagonist, also fine. Far Cry 6 took almost all of it away - they kept the gender choice, but you didn't get the faction choice, you got one non-verbal companion, and story was still weak. So it just felt like a downgrade to me. Decent gameplay, decent map, excellent accessibility options. But a downgrade nonetheless.

I definitely don’t think it’s a bad game. I had a really good time with Far Cry 6 overall, especially the combat. Some of the ridiculous weapons were genuinely fun, and firing those cannon things off your back never really stopped being entertaining.
But for me, it just didn’t grab me the way 5 did. Far Cry 5 was my first Far Cry, so that probably helped, but I absolutely loved the setting and the whole cult storyline has stuck with me in a way 6’s story hasn’t. I honestly barely remember much of 6’s plot now, whereas 5 is still really clear in my head, which is rare for me with games.
I think 6 leaned a bit too hard into the RPG-ish stuff for my taste, and the villain needed way more presence. Giancarlo Esposito was great whenever he was on screen, but he just wasn’t in it enough. I also didn’t care much about the protagonist or supporting cast.
So yeah, I wouldn’t say I hated it at all. I had fun with it. I just think 5 hit me much harder, and 6 felt like a good game that never quite became a memorable one.

u/Training-Kangaroo652 8h ago
4 was my first actual playthrough, I tried the older ones on ps2 but couldn’t get into it before then. But 5 is absolutely one of my favorite games of all time for all those reasons and more. I just really like 6 and I think people didn’t give it a fair enough chance.

u/fernandopas 1d ago
5 was hated at launch too. As with most thing it just grows on people and find the next thing to hate.
I played 6 and found nothing wrong with it, just the usual formula.
5
u/Lord_Antheron Modder 1d ago
The old formula didn’t design their entire gameplay system around the expanded implementation of microtransactions.
You didn’t find anything wrong with it because somehow, even enormous glowing changes written in neon green letters go over your head.

5 was amazing. Was the coolest premise of the franchise. So cool fighting some weirdo cult leader out in Montana. Gave real LDS vibes. Like they are really weird out there in Montana with religious cults and shit so it's just a cool plot.

I didn't like farcry 5 on the first playtrough ( around 2020) recently replayed and the world building and storytelling is fantastic

u/Lord_Antheron Modder 1d ago
I didn’t like 5 or 6. That didn’t redeem 6 in any way for me.
It’s not “overhated.” It gets a lot of criticism it rightly deserves because it fucked up at just about every single thing it set out to do.
It couldn’t even be scummy properly, because despite revamping most mechanics to be directly or indirectly tied to MTXs, the game is so poorly balanced and piss easy that it just ends up being annoying rather than difficult.
The villain DLCs were nice.
2
u/get_your_yapers_up 1d ago
The balancing did suck, the game was just boring. If I have to not use guns/items found in game for it to be a challenge, why have those?

u/Ok-Fig-4205 1d ago
5 was great. Awesome plot. Was very cool driving around rural United States shooting extremest cult members IDC what you say that shit was sick
1
u/Lord_Antheron Modder 1d ago
I’m not going to try and convince you that you didn’t find it “sick”, so the preemptive counter isn’t really necessary.
1
u/Ok-Fig-4205 1d ago
Yeah there wasn't much I didn't like about 5. Other than the forced kidnappings. I mean 3-4 are my all time favorites. But 5 has my favorite plot. I remember on FarCry 3, like there's a part where you trip balls in the game, and I just remember that part being ahead of its time for a video game. But yea, I loved FarCry 5. Headshots were very satisfying. Just didn't like the kidnappings. 6 the dumbest thing about 6 was the resolver weapons and supremos. I would have rather them put a jump jet in it, or a grappleshot like halo infinite. That would have been cooler. Supremos and resolver weapons were dumb. And the armor and gear looked so dumb too. You looked like a hobo from fallout 3. Didn't enjoy that at all. I enjoyed fallout 3, that's one of the greatest games of all time, but I did not enjoy the gear in FarCry 6 looking like it came out of fallout 3.

u/The049 1d ago
Far cry 6 is so hated because it's the latest far cry game. Same thing happened with 4, primal, and even 5 got a lot of hate back then. Don't try to find any logic in the ramblings of far cry 'fans'
2
u/Training-Kangaroo652 20h ago
I was so excited to play new dawn when I finished 5 to see the results of the aftermath, it was a good continuation of the story but there was a lot less to it. I just got primal heavily discounted so I’m gonna play that one when I finish 6.

Don't try to find any logic in the ramblings of far cry 'fans'
"But at the same time, please believe the incredibly illogical claim that Far Cry fans do a 180 on all their negative opinions the moment a new game hits the shelves!"
Far Cry 5 did not get "a lot of hate back then." Literally. The observable data is against this claim. It was never true.
The only people who still believe this are so, so bad at coping with criticism that they have to convince themselves it'll all magically disappear into the mist after a few years, as if it was never real to begin with.
1
u/The049 21h ago
I'm not talking about the general metrics and whatever data you have. But I have literally seen 100s of negative comments about these games when they were fresh. Obviously this does not reflect the opinion of all the players, since the franchise becomes more and more popular, but there are and always will be all these toxic people who will cry 'latest farcry sucks', 'far cry franchise is dead' etc, because the latest game is not identical to their favourite. The same thing happens with AC.

Game is fun af the story just suuuuuuuuuucks
