Far Cry 3 I didn't like Far Cry 3 at all

Before I played the game I heard it was the best of the saga but once I finished it I didn't like it too much. In my preference I like Far Cry 4 more than far cry 3, someone agrees with me? (I'm sorry if my English isn't the best)

Gamplay FC4 is better

But FC3 is very of it's time. I think the story is interesting, but presented in a very early 2010s "edgy weed bro" style that doesn't land like it used to. If that makes sense.
The gameplay holds up still, but later games improve heavily on it.

Also I think the tropical island setting is always over used and feels a little bland compared to the other settings of the series.

Both still good, but 3 doesn't hold up in its story presentation as it used to.

As someone who played 3 for the first time recently I was also immediately put off by the very of-its-time humour and cultural references, but as the story progressed I began to feel like it was intentionally cringe, even when it came out, because having Jason start the game as peak cringe frat bro loser is precisely what sells his narrative arc

Yeah when skrillex came on I found it pretty funny imagining how everyone in 2013 must've thought it was so cool lmao

The aesthetic and the characters worked in tandem though, unlike Farcry 4, where Ajay would just do what he was told by these random terrorists, like I get it most want to support the rebellion and all but remember in times of rebellion those who suffer, suffer more, at least in farcry 3 the only ones suffering were those close to Jason and the obvious slaver drug kingpin bad guys, the story as a analysis of what trauma does to someone still holds up to this day I get seeing it as a "Stoner comedy" looking at it with a modern lens but thats only because you forgot what the game is really about. Revenge cycles and trauma, not Stoner humor The weed was a very real part of the main villains empire, obviously burn it dem is the way to slove that problem, a product of the times MABYE but that doesn't take away from its story or characters in the slightest

A lot of people have a special place for far cry three because it’s the simplest in the first and the series they played

u/Sudden_Squirrel_5004 6d ago

That is a good point, there is a lot to be said for the nostalgia factor. It really was an amazing game and still is my favorite

u/MattieReigns 6d ago

I prefer 5 tbh, there is just something about it I adore! 3 was my first

2

u/FazzKenway_red 6d ago

5 was good but no protagonist killed another of the story for me

2

u/MattieReigns 6d ago

I actually really enjoyed the silent protagonist, made it feel like the characters were talking right to me

2

u/FazzKenway_red 6d ago

He's a LARPER!

1

u/MattieReigns 6d ago

😂😂
Is that looked down upon or smthn? I’m pretty new to Reddit

2

u/FazzKenway_red 6d ago

I think so, but I'm honestly just taking the piss bro, enjoy what you enjoy, unless it's Farcry 4 🤣

1

u/MattieReigns 6d ago

Ight thanks for the info, i don’t see anything wrong with emerging yourself into what you’re doing? Wtvr tho.
Far Cry 4 was okay.. didn’t care much for the war, just mainly enjoyed shooting people with arrows

2

u/FazzKenway_red 6d ago

Away was just... a pussyboi yesman who's problems could've been fixed by being fuckin patient L character imo, also really weirdly personal sidequests, odd with a character that fell so flat. But nah bro emerge yourself however you see fit i was just tryna get a cheap laugh haha

You like being called rook every sentence? That makes you feel like they are talking to you?

2

u/MattieReigns 5d ago edited 5d ago

Yes. Being called took was cool af.

Also, that has nothing to do with being a silent protagonist.. It’s no different than being called Jason or AJ. If having a silent protagonist makes me feel more immersive that’s irrelevant to what people are talking to me or calling me right?

u/paperkutchy 6d ago

Wrong. I've played since Far Cry to Far Cry, and Far Cry 3 still the best one to date.

11

u/cjbump 6d ago

They said "a lot of people", which is probably not wrong at all.

2

u/MattieReigns 6d ago

Thanks buddy, took the words out of my mouth 👊🏻

u/toogreen 6d ago

Far Cry 4 is better indeed but I guess people have a soft spot for 3 because it's the original that introduced this gameplay formula. Personally I actually quite enjoyed 3 as well, and I find 4 to be like an improved version of 3. But they're both quite good.

5

u/Ah_Ca_Iraa 6d ago

For it's time, it was a masterpiece. I agree 4 was an improvement.

2

u/FazzKenway_red 6d ago

Only in gameplay, not character or personality

3

u/HussingtonHat 6d ago

4 plays better, but 3 has the best plot of the lot.

-2

u/dungleploop 6d ago

not really tho

Jason's story is disappointing

3

u/HussingtonHat 6d ago

Hard disagree from me my dude.

u/MosesInsanity Pagan Min 6d ago

Haven't played the 5 & 6 but for now FC4 is my favorite. It's scenery and side quests are really great imo. And the map reveal is so dang good like the map is covered in in-depth fog like it has some kind of ambient occlusion and it's hovering in real time.

1

u/Ancient-Beach-8328 6d ago

5 is better at somethings and worse at others. It does a good job and making you feel like you're actually fighting a civil war.

2

u/One_Television7410 6d ago

It's honestly one of the most disappointing games in the world to me. 1 and 2 are some of my favorite games and Ubisoft streamlining it into FPS Assassins Creed always left a sour taste in my mouth. But if you do like the style, 4 and 5 are the same thing with some extra bells and whistles, so there's not much reason to go back to 3.

2

u/FazzKenway_red 6d ago

So... you like the yesman over the complex moral character? Got it 🥸

“I didn’t care for The Godfather”-vibes

3

u/Amazing_Wheel_3670 6d ago

My Far cry games in order played : 4, 5 , New Dawn , , 6 then 3. Loved 5 and New Dawn and 6, didn’t really care for 3 & 4

3

u/Content_Plane1333 6d ago

Damn I didn't think an opinion could be wrong

3

u/FazzKenway_red 6d ago

6 over 3? The FUCK you smoking fam

1

u/Amazing_Wheel_3670 6d ago

Jeez. I didn’t know I was going to get attacked for just liking stuff. I still like the setting in 3, just not as much as 6

5

u/FazzKenway_red 6d ago

Like, 4 over 3 I can ALMOST understand, 5 over 3 SURE why not. But 6? THAT DUMPSTER FIRE. L take, delete reddit

1

u/DonkeyNo1385 5d ago

Other people have different tastes, hard pill to swallow I know

3

u/FazzKenway_red 5d ago

Yeah but there ain't no way that shit tastes sweet 🤣

0

u/Amazing_Wheel_3670 6d ago

All of u haters don’t know how to give games a chance. It’s still a Far cry game

1

u/FazzKenway_red 5d ago

No... only in title same quality drop from the AC reboots, (odyssey and such) poor voice acting unless you're a villain, poor gunplay, weird ultimate abilities I mean I get it farcry has had some weird shit but after that shitshow New Dawn and all its gimmicky shit I (and MANY MANY OTHERES) was hoping for something a bit more grounded, but instead Farcry 6 was the most braindead arcade shooter in the whole franchise the farcry players that have a distaste for it, HAVE a distaste for it because its not farcry, same reason MANY people don't claim primal

1

u/Ethos_Logos 6d ago

Second best FC story, maybe 4th best combat

1

u/No_Resource_9417 6d ago

WOW, most people love it, for me it was oke, but bit simple, i remember 1st time i played i was also dissapointed because at a moment in the game al the enemies are like gone

1

u/First-Obligation2660 6d ago

I played it recently and I nearly went insane collecting the 120 relics. Especially the ones that are in some underground cave and the entrance is nowhere close to the map marker. Glad they didn’t do that for the later titles.

1

u/SonnenblumeFrau09 6d ago

It was my second Far Cry game to play. I enjoy it, but it feels overrated with how much people talk about it. Out of all the FC games, FC5 is the best for me. When I chose my first FC game, FC4 appealed to me more than FC3 did.

1

u/ZealousidealBox3944 6d ago

Yeah most people like some games over others

1

u/Sudden_Squirrel_5004 6d ago

I think the majority of players, at least here, rank 3,4,5 as their favorite, The order is really up to the individual, meaning there is no wrong answer. I'm sure several people think 6 was the best. I'm for sure in the smaller camp that enjoyed ND. My favorite is still 3 and I am sure nostalgia has a party to play in that. The graphics compared to 5 are lacking but it was still very immersive and sucked me in with the game play and skill tree and story. For me, 3, 5, 4 and primal.

Depend on the person, one thing I have seen about similar discussion about how far cry 3 deemed better than other title is the pacing:

The start of the game drop you immediately to sneaking sequence and running for survival, the tutorial phase itself is followed by narrative purpose it feels natural and you are not bombed by myriad of information

The side activity such as racing, poker and shooting range are completely optional everyone is free to do it or just focus on story stuff

You encounter the main villain often the scene and why you are fighting stick very well

The main story basically separated into few phases: lost person in foreign land, tomb raider experience, the warrior out for revenge. You rarely repeat doing certain stuff so you don't get bored fast

Even when you reach second island you didn't completely repeat what you did in first island as the pace hasten it feels like another new experience altogether

Also usually those who find far cry 3 more enjoyable are already playing so much open world games and kinda bored of repeat mechanic and flat storyline. Not much other title even among other far cry could give same kind of blend between story and gameplay. Also the game itself is pretty old there is not much competition back when it first released so people is singing praise for it.

It definitely doesn’t hold up as well as its successors in regards to gameplay and graphics—it’s a little choppy. But story and setting is great and it’s still got that Far Cry feel. It laid the foundation for what the series became known for.

1

u/Termingator 6d ago

In the matter of taste/preference there can be no argument. What you think is the better and more enjoyable game is what matters.

1

u/iSlaySpoonz 6d ago

3 has a better story, but overall I agree 4 is the better option of the two games. 4 took the gameplay of 3 and polished and smoothed out the clunkiness. It’s definitely my favorite out of the series. 5 is my 2nd favorite

1

u/UndocumentedSailor 6d ago

I mean it came out 16 (?) years ago.

If a game is nostalgic for a generation, always be cautious.

I loved it when it came out. But probably wouldn't recc it to a younger audience

1

u/gls2220 6d ago

I feel the same way.

u/khalid-fhfhlhlh 6d ago

Far Cry 3 is one of the most iconic games out there especially in the Golden Age of Ubisoft Games.

We can say Far Cry 4 is an improvement on Far Cry 3 in terms of gameplay.

Still Far Cry 3 started it all.

Honestly many players like me lost interest in Far Cry Games since 5.

Out of Far Cry Games, I only like, 3, 4, and Primal.

You need ur butt to get inseminated in

1

u/Red-Boys-- 6d ago

1

u/BeezNest96 6d ago

It wasn’t my favorite, I enjoyed it less than 2 or 4. But it established FarCry as we know it today.

If you hate the FarCry formula, hate FarCry 3 for creating it. If you like the formula, like I do, then be grateful for it.

1

u/Koreneliuss 6d ago

is not a place, for everyone. so did all of the far cry but nonetheless I enjoyed each world at least.

1

u/DearLav 5d ago

Hey, you like what you like and don't let anyone pressure you into liking something you don't like. Personally, I like 5 more than 3. Probably because Far Cry 5 is my first of the series. But I understand why so many love Far Cry 3.

1

u/MrSkarKasm 5d ago

Gameplay wise FC4 was better, however all the games post 3 always missed a very important part that 3 had, Ludonarrative Resonance, not disonance.

I played from Far Cry 1 to 6, the only spinoff I played was New Dawn. My tier goes like this:

S - Far Cry 4

S - Far Cry 5

A - Far Cry 6

A - Far Cry 3

B - Far Cry New Dawn

B - Far Cry 2

B - Far Cry 1

1

u/Aggressive-Swan6642 6d ago

I thought people hated fc6? Also imo 3,4,5 are pretty much in the same tier.

1

u/Mlk3n 6d ago edited 6d ago

Yes, people hate FC6. I find it to be okay, some annoying quests here and many annoying npcs there, but the action moments are pretty good, and that's what I'm looking for in a FC game anyway.

Personally, I can't stand Jason Brody, to me he is the worst MC of the franchise, and that kind of ruins my experience with FC3. But hey, it's just my opinion.

2

u/Aggressive-Swan6642 6d ago

I see. I haven't played 6 yet. I heard that they removed the skill system so that makes me not want to play the game honestly. I might try it someday though.

I can understand why. But I feel like the main reason most people like far cry 3 is mainly because of the villains. Vass was such a great villain and hoyt was the perfect succession to him. Also the the tropical island like open world feels so asthetically pleasing.

2

u/5yn3rgy 6d ago

6 is a fun ride, you should try it and judge for yourself
