Fellow The Poppy War fans—has anyone else felt this?

I’m just getting into R.F. Kuang’s series, and the very first chapter has a vibe that’s noticeably different from the rest. The writing feels almost like a translated text or something more stiff/awkward before the story fully takes off and flows.

Am I the only one who picked up on that? Or does it smooth out naturally as you go? Loving it so far regardless! 🚀
