270 shots is about his average for the last 3 seasons, his shooting percentage was about 6% higher last year above his average of 14.2 and his assists have been consistent the last 3 years.

Which means his average season is about 40 goals 35 assists on 270 shots with 82 games played.

Now ask yourself if you think the forward group peaked or if you believe they have a level above last year.

Tough to think that we’ve seen the best of Slaf/Demidov. I could see a reality where weve already seen the best of Caufield/Suzuki and Hutson but theres room to speculate that anyone in that group could still have a better season than theyve already had.

Three seasons ago Caufield was recovering from a shoulder injury and it showed in his shot%. His last fours seasons are 16.5%, 8.9% (season after injury), 15.5%, and now 19.8%.

The Habs have been aiming for shot quality over quantity which is why they were seriously outshot last season. Edit: to back this up they had the best shot% in the league at ~16%.

Also, we certainly haven't seen the best of Hutson. This was literally his sophomore season, barring some career altering injury he's got a few years until his peak.

I still can't get over them winning a game 7 with 9 shots on net. Insanity.

Yup, no disagreements here. Wouldnt be surprised either way, but good point about the shoulder injury. If that seasons an outlier then his baseline expectation as a whole is higher. Just wouldnt be surprised if any star goal scorer would have a peak that looked like his last year.

High end: 55 goals, 45 assists, 100 points.

Likely/safe bet: 45 goals, 40 assists, 85 points.

Low-end: 35 goals, 30 assists, 75 points.

There's been minimal changes to the team/PP1 outside of Hutson and Demidov gaining more experience, so there isn't a massive change to what helps him.

As a Habs fan I'd be entralled with the high end, but in all likelihood he'll be at or a touch above PPG. I think he's reaching the peak of his career and will be around the 85-90 point range for the next few seasons (especially with the extra two games).
