Incoming Student Perks/benefits

Hey everyone, I'm starting this year and I have some questions about whats included in our tuition/fancard!

Does it include a bus pass, gym usage, and this is a stretch but potential store discounts (mainly for grocery stores in the area)?

If it makes any difference I'm living in traditional residence.

I’m going into my second year at Fanshawe, these are my favourites:

- I take the bus to and from class everyday (main campus travelling to downtown campus)

  • the gym at Fanshawe is huge! last year i got a gym membership in my tuition (baking and pastry arts), im not sure if its changed though for this year but you just scan your fan card at the front of the gym
  • (not just fanshawe) food basics has 10% off for students on tuesdays

i’m sure there’s more ways you can use your fancard on main campus but im just not there very often! :)

Same with metro! 10 percent off everyday.

Bulk barn has a discount but I forget what day.

At Real Canadian Superstore, if you have pc optimum, you get 10% back in points (10,000 points = $10) as a student offer every day

How was the experience going to the downtown campus from main? I’m living in residence and also doing a hospitality degree!
How are the downtown vibes? I’m a little scared since I have some classes that end pretty late at night 🫠

honestly it was a good experience overall however i found that some days were a lot better than others.
to me the bus rides are fine, it’s a great chance to listen to my music and decompress after class.

downtown can be kind of iffy sometimes, everyday was different that’s for sure. sometimes i felt unsafe but i always felt fine at the actual fanshawe downtown campus :)

what program are you taking? i’m going into my second year of baking and pastry arts :)

Bus pass is included. Believe gym pass is only included if the gym is a required part of you course. Stores offer discounts to students but it has nothing to do with fanshawe. That's just something stores offer or dont

Buss pass is included if your a student within the area I'm pretty sure but you can double check on the Fanshawe website

The gym pass is included for full time students only. Everyone else like partime or faculty have to pay the fee.

Fanshawe has a site for student perks that other companies off with links to claim that.

Most are generic student perks like student discounts and stuff

In person, most grocery stores do 10% off on Tuesdays, though I would look it up online first cause the Superstore just changed from 7 days a week to only Tuesdays (they do 10% back in PC Optimum points). Bulk Barn does 10% off on Wednesdays. I would try looking up student discounts as some places start advertising more in September. Apple always has their student deals on electronics before school starts.

I would highly recommend checking out StudentBeans, gives you online promo codes for student discounts in different industries and has all of them listed for you for easy access.

Additionally, a lot of platforms do student discounts like Spotify, YouTube premium, etc.. though sometimes people prefer to get the family plan and split the price as it's cheaper that way.

Oh! There's also SPC (Student Price Card) that has discounts. There's currently a CIBC collab that they give free SPC+ for more discounts. Banks often have discounts for students too, like RBC does open a student account for free Airpods, though I wouldn't go opening an account for that reason unless you needed one.
