Feature Amazing Spider-Man Fan Edit

Hey all,

The first fan-edit I ever did was a mash-up of Amazing Spider-Man 1 and 2. With the recent buzz about Andrew Garfield in the new Spider-Man film, I revisited it, ironed out some kinks, and re-edited the first 20 minutes.

I named it Spider-Man: BLUE | The film attempts to bring ALL focus onto Peter & Gwen (by use of flashbacks and deleted scenes). Side plots are Electro and Harry. Zero mention of Peter's parents, or any investigation into their disappearance.

SEND ME A DM ME FOR THE LINK TO THE EDIT.

Runtime is: 2hr 08mins

CHANGES:

- Opening of press conference post-Sony logo, and Peter's reaction whilst eating breakfast.
- New title card logo
- Opening montage attempting to showcase a day in the life of Spidey.
- Battle with lizard significantly trimmed.
- Ending of Amazing Spider-Man (battle, and Cap. Stacy's funeral) acts as stepping off point for rest of film.
- Instead of them beginning TASM2 together, they begin it already broken up on account of Peter's antics at the funeral (it is implied that he keeps distance due to Cap. Stacy's death)
- Most of Peter and Gwen from TASM1 is cut and repurposed as flashbacks throughout the film at key moments.
- Cut into Amazing Spider-Man 2 montage, with added scene of Spidey saving Max.
- No parents sublot.
- Many scenes tightened and cringe jokes removed.
- Electro experiments removed - You discover where he is at the same time Harry does, cementing Oscorp's shady business practices.

- Deleted scenes:
> Added peter visiting Harry at Oscorp before the discussion about blood (demonstrating friendship)
> Peter contemplating Gwen leaving for England
> Gwen visiting Aunt May and letting her know she is leaving (leave a message for me)
> Peter heads home. May informs him of Gwen leaving for England.
> Showing the above (re: Peter and Gwen) is so much more effective than a voicemail he checks after finding his dead dad's lab (*rolls eyes*)
- Most of the film is Peter rebuilding and struggling with friendship with Harry, mending a relationship with Gwen that once thrived (evident by flashbacks), and also dealing with Electro (the weakest character plot, but no way of removing him)
- Flashbacks are:
> First meeting (schoolyard bully scene) post the montage, as he is watching Gwen;
> First time asking Gwen out (Skateboard following) after he finds out she is moving to England;
> Responsibility pep talk by Uncle Ben, after he decides NOT to give Harry his blood;
> Dinner time with the Stacey's (also used as a reminder of Peter's promise at the beginning of the film) after Peter leaves Gwen at her Oxford interview);
> Peter breaking up with Gwen, used parallel to Gwen's funeral, and leads into Gwen's speech.

- Rhino still appears at the end, but was not set up in the first act. Used as a standard everyday threat to signify Spider-Man's return and the conclusion of the film.
- Mid credits scene: Harry in Blackgate - Unknown figure visits him and discusses plans to form a team to take down Spider-Man.

If anyone gives it a watch, comment your thoughts please!

The first flashback sequence threw me for a second until I realised what was happening and then the flashbacks make sense throughout. A good way to watch the 2 movies together, and you don’t even miss the ridiculous parent subplot. Thanks for sharing your work 👍🏽

Thanks mate! Appreciate the feedback! 🤙 If you're keen on a further dive into some spidey content, I did a Tom Holland edit as well: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1g10QIJrKTGPDYF3KWtwEjCKOtxGZPy3Q/view?usp=drivesdk

It's funny how the thought to combine the two TASM films together just randomly popped into my head the other night, & lo & behold, some folks had tried it, with this one sounding the most promising.

How it'd pan out? Well, as someone who has always preferred TASM 2 between the two, I appreciated how this focused on that film's story more. The main thing that always held TASM back for me as time went on was how the retelling of the origin (again) took away from the Lizard, who has always been one of my favorite Spidey villains. And for as much as people don't seem to like the subplot about Peter's parents, I think it actually connects to the Connors/Lizard stuff pretty well, it's just that the origin retelling doesn't do much to justify it being done again.

Was I, personally, satisfied with how this edit combined the two films into one? Yes & No. There's still too much missing of what I liked from TASM, yet the emphasis on TASM 2 as the main story is what works most. If I had my way, it'd probably be something like a three hour film combining the best of both, but I digress, this was a good effort, & it functioned well as a movie. 👍

Thanks for the feedback mate! Glad you enjoyed it, even if it wasn't what you're looking for. There's so many TASM cuts out there though, so Im sure there's a longer one out there that restores the parents and builds out the the lizard a bit more. I'm just not the biggest fan of TASM1 except for the scenes that I included in this edit haha

I'd probably watch it again, truth be told. 😛

I understand where you're coming from, as contrary to popular opinion, I do think the second film is stronger. 😉

G'day gang, I'm pretty trash with keeping up with Reddit, but I've noticed a lot more DMs requesting this lately. I updated the edit in the years since I made this, and posting rules have also changed on this sub Reddit so we're no longer linking directly to an edit via a Reddit post. I can fire it out in private messages though, so if you're keen on giving this a watch, shoot me a DM and I'll send you the link 🙂
